      Brock Leonard can u set your salt water with just your water and your salt with out anything else and let it run for a while while you get the rest of your set up like your heaters and such

    Great video! Currently have Blue Devil, Yellow tail, 4 stripe, Green Scally and Talbot/Spot damsels in my tank. Have had lemon damsels and Domino damsels in the past and would Never consider getting another Domino. Totally agree, when they are small, they're pretty cute and a joy to watch swimming EVERYWHERE constantly, but boy, when they get big, they sure are fugly and so mean, that it can get difficult for the other fish in the tank, from being bullied.
    Damsel's have a bad rep, but in the right circumstances, they can be fun to watch, full of personality and make relatively good tank mates.
    My trick is to always make sure that they're the smallest fish in my tank. That way, they are not the Alpha fish, so to speak, and often get bossed about by my tang lol

    I am at a loss on what to do with my Figi Blue devil! He has been alone on and off for well over a year now and is big and mean! Every fish I put in dies maybe from fear or jumps! I am going to get a lid and was about to make an order. Do you think If I add in 3 fish at once maybe it wont kill them or bully them all? Another option is try to catch him and give to my Lfs or should I just get aggressive tank mates? Very hard to find online though but should it be all damsels if I go that route? not many pretty ones beside the blues and he is very blue with a little bit of yellow. I was thinking of adding a black gold chromis which says aggressive and I know is sort of like a damsel!

    I've found that if you're not keeping live rock or inverts, keeping the SG at 1.018 will discourage parasites and the fish will still be happy. YMMV

    • @s.i.m.poster6823
      @s.i.m.poster6823 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think they're happy. Damsels eat parasites anyways, so you're just putting them in a sub optimal environ for no good reason.

    You can kill a Domino, trust me, I have killed 3 and 15 years later I'm working on my fourth! LOL The blue (ol Blue) lasted the longest for me. Darn wish I hadn't picked up that Domino yesterday since you say it gets ugly. I also got an Azure yesterday and it is already getting ugly and chasing my blue Damsel. I tell you the fish that can withstand some cruddy water and that is a porcupine puffer fish. In the beginning I had some pretty rank water but my porky puffer outlasted them all . She is going on 16 years old now. Coolest fish I ever kept!

    • @maryanneferguson5148
      @maryanneferguson5148 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, 16, where did the time go!? This porky has been the most amazing fish I have yet to encounter. In the beginning when I first cycled my tank with Damsels, The Porcupine was the first fish I got. And you know that is definitely not a fish for beginners!! So she has endured some rough waters (pun intended) right along with me as I learned. The crazy thing is I really had no experience about what type of hard stuff I should have given her to keep her teeth worn down but Luckily she developed a taste for the Tetramin tabs I put in the tank for my hermit crabs and that is what ended up keeping her teeth in check.She has always been a happy go lucky fish minding her(or his) own business and never bothered anything I ever chose to put in the tank.I have searched online about Life span and most I have read says 15 years and that sort of worries me. That fish is like a part of me after 16 years! She got her very first case of Ich about 8 weeks ago, THAT amazes me! I pray she has fully recovered now. :)

    • @BrockLeonard
      @BrockLeonard  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      cortneyfletcher This tends to happen a lot. I don’t think we’ve ever gotten fish shipments in of damsels and atleast one being dead. A lot of times it’s because of travel stress or aggression towards other damsels. Your cleanup crew will normally eat the dead one.

    • @TheXtro101

      No bigger than a 10 gallon tank.I would prefer smaller size and have no more than 2 fishes.I really don't want a bunch of species of fishes.Also small aquarium tank less to clean.

    • @BrockLeonard
      @BrockLeonard  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TheXtro101 oh yeah I totally got that. I mean really you could do anything. A clownfish or a pair of clownfish don't normally tend to swim all around the tank, they normally find their spot and swim in an area. Where as a damsel they will be all over the place 24/7. You could even get one of each.
