    Now that it was lazying around for 20yrs .Put it back to work and make it earn back cost to fix it. I and my brother have my Dads 1934 WC Allis Chalmers tractor. Its still worked to this day. 86yrs old and hasn't missed any work. Not restored just serviced and repaired. Just washed years of gunk and grime off of it and repainted it back to AC Orange.

    So many things going wrong here, first the pony declutching adjustment and also the pony pinion centrifugal weights need to be adjusted so it engages and disengages properly. Second the diesel has very low fuel pressure, maybe dirty filters or air, when you cracked those lines there should be alot more fuel coming out or maybe you didn't have the throttle open . You seem to have some knowledge though and obvious mechanical skills, keep up the good work.

    Really should wait to close the compression release makes for better starting when the motor is up to speed up don't need eithere let the positions and sleaves build heat it let it go for like a few mins I got an 1950 car d4 6u. But nice machine sounds really good and also slow down the pony motor easier for engagement of the clutch

      Dakota k is the fuel pressure gauge broken because if not there looks like no fuel pressure . I used to run side booms with donkey engines and we always got the oil pressure up and the fuel pressure up before dropping the decompression lever . Nice to see the old girl running👍

      A diesel needs compression to start, and old engine that hasn't run in years will not build compression sufficient to fire a diesel with out a little outside help, or completely dismantle the engine and clean it , hone the walls etc. He's doing the best he can to get an old diesel going without spending tons of money and time

    This really hurt to watch. A flagrant case of pony, pinion and diesel abuse. Did you bother to read any of the easily available manuals on proper starting procedure? The pinion latches need a simple adjustment and they would stay engaged. The pinion engagement lever is not designed to keep the pinion engaged. Why was the fuel filter not bled of any air? there are two needle valves for just that purpose. Why was it not drained of any old fuel? I think watching any of a number of good TH-cam videos on caterpillar tractor starting should have been done first.

    That kinda hurt watching you switch it from the first position on that prestart to start position as I remember they had the half start and you left it there till oil pressure was up and fuel pressure was in the green. It was trying hard but no fuel, no start. breaking injector lines loose should of have washed the side of the engine. I am surprised the pony motor hung with you so long. Most get hot and quit before long. Clean the lines, filters and check oil levels, drain dead fuel out and start with fresh... must be real tired engine

    • @will76dodge
      @will76dodge  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not tired in the least the cat had less than a 1000 hours on it... It also had brand new fuel if you notice the fuel line is brand new... Also when he got it the fuel tank was off... He also had to split the tractor in order to get the clutch free so while he was at it he went through and worked on a whole bunch of stuff before he started it.

  • @markchriestenson3257

    I about fainted when I saw it was in gear. The hard start was probably due to sticking valves and piston rings, gummed up injectors and injection pump due to sitting for 20 years.

    • @will76dodge
      @will76dodge  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He is bleeding the air out of the lines by cracking the injector lines and closing them... As for the can of Bill Cosby... The original instruction manual that has followed the tractor since new in 1941 says to you starting fluid when cold.... Plus hes not using very much to hurt it... So far since then it has been starting like a champ With no ether needed...

    • @johnwythe1409
      @johnwythe1409 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When he was bleeding the lines I did see much fuel coming out. Either fuel pressure gauge is broken or fuel pump is not building much pressure. Takes a long time to bleed all the air out if you don’t start from the beginning of where the fuel comes into the fuel pump. Seemed that was a big problems as well.
