My first job was when I was 12 too - just a few month before my 13th birthday. My dad owned a grocery store and that is where I worked taking the orders on the phone (this was the 50's and 60's) and filling them and when I was 13 I graduated to doing the cash too. I did enjoy that - meeting all the people who were neighbours and many were friends of my parents. I am now a volunteer at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights here in Winnipeg and I work the coat check and it is a lot of fun meeting all the people from around the world who come there and their reason for visiting. Have a good Christmas Sheila.
Oh that is fascinating. I think that would be so fun filling orders over the phone. Quite the modern thing at that time. Funny how the world comes full circle. Nice to have a volunteer job where you get to meet people. Good for you. Have a very Merry Christmas too. Happy stitching.
My first job was delivering Avon for my mother. The clients would give me a little money for delivering. Most times it was usually a dime or quarter sometimes but it was once a month so I would save it up. They would also gives me homemade gifts at Christmas like hat, mittens, scarf, slippers, and candy or chocolates. I think I did that for two years or better. By age eleven I was babysitting which I think now is just crazy. The child was only four years younger than me. Then in the summers I picked strawberries and raked blueberries. In High school I was a hall monitor. Then the real jobs started. Thank you Shelia for doing the videos. They are a lot of work but it has been such a pleasure to watch them. Merry Christmas to you and your husband.
Thank you so much for your flossmas videos, Sheila! I really enjoyed them! Your spouse is a keeper! It was great fun to see what he gifted you each day. I hope you have a great holiday and a wonderful 2025!
Merry Christmas Sheila! 🎄My first job was at a ‘Snack Shack’ that served, among other things, ice-cream. I did that for 2 summers when I was 15 and 16 and ended up getting a wrist ganglion from the hard ice cream scooping! My first big-girl job was as a Medical Laboratory Technologist at the local hospital. Thank you for taking the time to so all of these Flossmas videos. I looked forward to them every day 💜
Well isn't that fascinating. I always thought scooping ice cream would be a hard job. My mom was a med lab tech all her life. I worked one summer being a receptionist at the med lab. I loved it. It was old school before computers with requisition forms that were color coded for various departments. Have a very Merry Christmas Geri. It was my pleasure doing Flossmas, I am glad you enjoyed it.
Oh that sounds like a lovely job. Kind of like cross stitch. So many beautiful colors. But I imagine that it might have been a cold job. Still I think it would be a neat job. Merry Christmas to you too.
Your Frosty calendar looks awesome! The dyeing process for the PEI Sandburst has the dirt covering one side of the fabric so that side is more exposed to the sand pigments. Glad you like it! First job was at Top Banana! Fruit and vegetable place… had to walk around the floor before our shift and memorize the price of every item because we had old clunker manual cash register and scale! Lost that job because the boss’ son had a crush on me and I wouldn’t date him! Lol! Oh young love!!
Gotcha. I plan on starting a project on the fabric shortly. One of the Prairie School Santa's. I think it will look great. I never heard of Top Banana. That would be hard memorizing the prices but so good for the brain. Yes, young love indeed. Funny thinking back, huh. Have a Very Merry Christmas Chantal. I truly loved the Advent, thank you so much.
It is so much fun watching you open things. Your husband is so supportive and fun Sheila. My first job was piano teaching at age 14 when the families on my street asked me to teach their little ones. Merry Christmas. 🦉🧑🏼🎄🎅🏼❤️
Merry Christmas my dear friend. I’m gonna miss seeing you everyday. I really look forward to your videos. My very first paying job was the fishplant. I hated it because I was indoors working and I wanted to be outside. I quit after 2 yrs and started fishing with my husband. From there I became a weight master on a wharft for a company, then I became a Dockside Monitor for 14 yrs until I got injured. I love that job soooo much and I was bummed when I had to give it up. My whole working career was based around the fishery. Until I see you again happy stitching 🪡🪡😊☃️🎄
Wow. What were people fishing? Atlantic Cod? I always thought I would like working in a fish plant except for the fact it would be cold. That life though does have inherent risks for injury.
Merry Christmas! My first real job was working as a maid at a sort of rundown motel in Santa Cruz while I was in college. I enjoyed the physical labor/exercise aspect of it. The daughter of the owner also went to UC Santa Cruz, and whenever she saw me on campus she would point me out to her friends and flounce about, bragging that she was my boss. She was quite full of herself and I was, um, unimpressed. One day she told me I had to come in on a Saturday to work with her and the other maid to get rid of some mold. I said, I can't, I already tried; that's going to require new drywall. And she got all inflated with her self-importance and reiterated that I had to do this. So I explained again that it was literally impossible. This incensed her. She said if I didn't come in to do this, I was fired. I said okay. I came in the next week to pick up my last paycheck and she said WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? I said, You fired me. She said, NO, I DIDN"T!!!!! I reminded her that she said I was fired if I didn't come in and remove the mold that was unremovable. (Oooh, words matter.) More yelling, because she was in hot water with her parents over my vanishment, but I couldn't have been more indifferent. I just got my check and left. When I interviewed for my next maid job at a much nicer motel, she asked about previous experience. No problem. Then she asked why I left and I said I was fired. Her eyes flew wide. She asked why. I explained about the mold and added that the flouncy daughter claimed she had not fired me, but, yes, in my opinion she had so. The owner was quite amused that it was only in my version of the story that I had been fired, plus she knew the reputation of the motel with the mold. So she hired me and it worked out great. And there you go. My last long-winded saga! lol I have really enjoyed this flossmas. Thanks for doing this for all of us! I couldn't have enjoyed it more, and it was so much fun getting to know you.
And it has been so nice getting to know you too. You should write a book of all your life stories! Thank you for watching and coming along. Have a very happy holidays, may your home be filled with love, warmth, many purrs and happy stitching.
My first job was at Pizza Hut. I too started as a dish washer at age 14. Then ended up working all the roles eventually including shift supervisor as I was there for about 10years.
Merry Christmas, Sheila! So sorry you don't have that floss. Your finish is AWESOME! I love your finish a week in 2025 idea! My first jobs were as a lifeguard all over the province. Thanks so much for your Flossmas videos! XO
That's okay Patty. It happens. My finishes in 2025 are the FFO'ing of the finishes I did this year (over 60). Thus plenty to choose from. I really did enjoy your Christmas Countdown SAL. My nephew was a lifeguard too. I admire that very much. Although I don't think I could handle the unpredictable nature of being an emergency worker. I am sure you have some stories to tell. Have a very Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas Sheila. I am having a quiet day too and it is quite nice.OOHH!! Cheezies are my favourites. I work from home all the time now, but every once in a while I go into the office for a special event or training on a new software and they have those big clear glass jars with candies and small bags of chips or whatever and one of them has cheezies - so that is the only time I have them. That is a good thing - right?? I definitely could not keep them in the house because I would end up being as big as a house!! 🤣😂😛
Too funny. I love Cheezies too. We are going out tomorrow night and I was going to take them to share, but I think I might be selfish and keep them to myself. Have a very Merry Christmas 🤶 🎄
Ah thank you so much Sarah. The top I got at a thrift store. I love finding gems in thrift stores for a very good price, likely $1. We did have a great Christmas. Thank you for watching my flossmas, it is nice to know people liked it. Especially when there are so many out there.

Thank you so much. Merry Christmas to you too.
Those fabrics are beautiful. My first job was working in a small college library during the summer when I was 14.
@KEBStudioCreations ooh, I always wanted to work at a library. Very cool. And so young at a College Library, wow.
