Maybe on a future video you could cut open a moss pole with the remaining roots, to see if they rotted, hardened off or dissolved and became part of the substrate.

I'm running out of place indoors, and especially with winters here I'm not the only one suffering winter depression - I wish there was such a thing as growlights for humans. Hey you may not see this but oddly enough there actually is a product that’s exactly what you’re talking About. Look up lights for seasonal affective disorder. You’ll see them referred to as SAD lamps. They basically mimic the sun and can help out with winter depression. Hopefully that’s helpful 😊

I've noticed this upward root growth about my atabapoense as well! I popped one of my tiny props on a mini grow vertical pole when it had two leaves about, probably, not even two months ago.
Mistake. It has already reached the top. 🤣 I'll have to extend it. I can't wait till it starts growing lovely big leaves.

Can't believe that's only 5 months of growth. Being in a location that you can have your plants outside year round really makes these things go nuts.
It was growing indoors up until 3 weeks ago, so most of the growth would have been due to great indoor conditions :) let's see how she likes the outdoors going forward :)
Your videos are so much help. I know you talk about the pots and pot size in some of your videos. Any way you could do a video all about the pots and sizes you use for starting out plants at different levels to mature plants? Thanks again for sharing all this knowledge with us.

I guess Sydney has no philodendronophiliac insects. I had my first Philodendron outdoors where the six-legged culprits contributed some "fenestrations" in my leaves. I love watching your collection move outdoors so I can work up the courage again to summer some plants outdoors!

Wow your atabapoense is making me miss mines...It got root rot and I didn't catch it fast enough to save it ...I had no idea they could get this big. Now I have to get me another 1 or 2 cause I love big leaf plants.
i've noticed with atabapoense that the roots definitely are very wild compared to other roots for philodendron that i have
can't wait until i can get the right stuff to try this method probaly in a months time i'll have a moss pole

Could you make a video about the plant-growing differences in Germany vs. Australia? How much faster do things grow? How much more light and heat do you get? How does the availability of plants and resources compare? Pests, humidity, apartment differences etc. I would love to know :D

I have never grown plants in Germany so have nothing to compare... sorry :P
Australia is also a really huge country with a vast range of climates from quite cold in the south through deserts and tropics up north.
@@sunflowerhillhomesteadaust7887 I know that Australia is huge :P But I also know that even the colder areas are nowhere near as cold as most places in Germany, so it doesn't change anything about my comment^^ And I also know that he lives is Sydney, which is in fact pretty warm, so your point isn't even relevant in any way :D
The reason the moss poles stay in the pot is due to friction. It’s similar to when you interleave many pages of a book together with another and you can’t pull them apart. When you pull on the pole it pushes the potting mix together creating more friction which holds the pole in place. If you were to gently wiggle the pole it would come out. So weirdly enough the fact that you hold it by the pole and pull it is actually the force that’s keeping it in the pot.

Great video as always. Theoretically you could do that with any plant you wanted to have more plants on by potting the bottom portion with the top and redirecting the new shoots, right?Or am I not thinking this through correctly?
I'm interested in how they go outside over winter in Sydney. Here in SW Victoria I'm heating my plants indoors by now, lol! You have a bit more warmth up there but do you think the tropical plants will do ok outside all winter there?

Australia is a big place with many different climates :) sydney can get cold dueing winter but never freezing :)
You grow plants very well i have just started. Have a question maybe you will answer. I use foliage focus. Your water bittles look alot darker than mine, can yiu speak to the concentration lvl of feed?
I live in Canada and have been watching your videos faithfully. I love them. I finally bought most of the ingredients for the aroid mix but I'm usually water my plants every 2 weeks and I'm just curious how should I modify your mixture for that type of watering schedule? Should I put a small layer of coco chips in the bottom of my container? Thanks in advance ☺️

I’ve noticed with both of my atabapoense their roots tend to grow upwards, even in water propagations the roots grow upwards and out of the spout of the vessel of water! It’s so strange i haven’t experience it with any other plant…

Could you please provide details of your potting mix ? I am potting my philodendron on soil ( 40% normal soil , 10% sand, 20% vermicompost, 10% coco peat, 10% pearlite, 10% bone mix) .

Do you reuse your moss? And if you do what if at any point do you decide that it’s unusable
I do :) I usually just judge it by the look ... eventually it becomes kind of brittle and doesn't absorb water well anymore.
Immer wenn ich deine Videos sehe, kann ich nicht glauben, dass deine Moosstäbe nur 6cm um Durchmesser haben 😂 ich hab moosstäbe in 6,5 und 8 cm Durchmesser und der 8cm sieht mehr oder weniger aus wie deiner 😂 meine in 6,5 sind sooo Mini. Die wollten nicht mal meine 50cm Monstera halten.

Mate, you are awesome. Could you please share with us how you get your plants to grow so evenly?? my have branches that goon all different directions! please share.
If you have a consistent light source from one side, the plant should grow quite evenly. I sometimes have to use little metal pins to pin the plant to where I want it to attach next. I have a full video on how I style my plants too :)
