I picked this one up a few days ago because I've been after an authentic/realistic Steinway D. I really like how this piano sounds and feels. ViLabs have done a fantastic job of capturing the authentic character and tone of the NY Steinway Model-D. I can see myself using this one when I specifically want the Steinway sound. Saying that, I still really love NI Noire and it continues to really impress me despite being a fairly old library. I use this with Liquidsonics Cinematic Rooms and it sounds equally wonderful. I also own Pianoteq 8 Pro + all their Add-On's and am continually impressed to hear how this product is continuously improving with every update. Some areas of it do sound a little more synthetic than a high quality sample library but there are areas that I prefer. With Modern-D, Noire and the continued evolution of Pianoteq, I feel I have all my piano requirements covered.
Yeah Modern D fits in nicely with Noire and some of the others in this price range. Timbre is very different to Noire, but they compliment each other well.
It sounds quite realistic imo, the roundness and liveliness of the tone, the staccato releases, a great dynamic range, complex resonances, mics and all are excellent, i really like it, and I'm glad it's not another rare piano and instead is a very well known and main stream grand like Steinway D274, i have modern u and i use it on everything, even though i have a few vsl pianos, some ni ones, keyscape and more, the MU is my go to because of its realism, so the modern d is god sent for me, thanks for reviewing it❤
Sounds fantastic! I am not familiar with vst pianos but I believe thanks to your reviews i am going to step off and pick one! The big question is which one? I obviously would love to buy Keylab but I am not that rich. Lol I usually stick to piano but I occasionaly like a Rodes or Epiano. Which would you sudgest for a rookie? Noire Modern D Grandeaur. Its a little overwelming.
general note, the symp resonance works without pedal, by holding any key. the hammer actions has several functions, one of those is opening/freeing the damper for that specific key. when holding the pedal it is similar to holding all the keys (all piano strings are free without any damping).

the bright punch preset🔥🔥🔥 it's sounds so POPPY😂
thanks for the review, I'd love to see how this piano stacks up against the grandeur by ni
How does it compare to the Noire

Agreed, it feels great to play and sounds great.
How do you compare it to the other steinways like VSL Concert D and pianoteq? Would love to hear your thoughts
Compared to keyscape?

Any 3 of those would work. I use Noire and Grandeur a ton, but Modern D is fantastic.
Sounds lovely. So does your playing. Do you know if the parameters are midi mappable?
I didn't test that, mainly because they almost always are, even if it's in the DAW itself.
so im never playing piano again 🥲 Dope review 🔥🔥🔥
