I’m more interested in what are the books NOT to spec on. That is….those that have cooled off over the past…1, 2 years and have zero chance of getting hot in 2022. I’m in for the LONG run. Give me some Silver, Bronze or Copper titles that have history in the Universe but…suck. Do I hear Firestorm? Micronauts? ROM? Or maybe a major title but a later run book with a meaningful cover. Like DD #32 (courtesy of your dad) as a cover to covet. How about a best overlooked COVER report? Love the work. Thanks!
Sub-mariner’s first run is underrated. Dazzler’s run too. I also think Cap, vol. 1 in the Silver Age is way underrated. Same with The Mighty Thor, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk (102+), Hawkeye’s limited series from the 1980s (4 issues). Tales to astonish and tales of suspense also are still relatively low on certain issues. I think any one of those runs are good to own. Ditto Strange Tales or Journey into Mystery, even though they are more expensive and have some expensive books. Any of Daredevil, vol 1 is another great run to pick up. Also, people are fast asleep on Black Panther’s early comics too.

In addition to the characters you mentioned, several of the titles related to current or upcoming projects at HBO MAX have seen price increases. Green Lantern, Justice League Dark, Titans ( Teen Titans keys ) Madame X and Zatanna keys , Batgirl ( I can't keep Batgirl back issues on the shelf right now). I would look at key books for characters like Deadman, The Demon, Vigilante and Lobo. The DMZ show is also upcoming and is based on comics from the Vertigo line. If this show does well it may open the door for some of the other Vertigo titles like Scalped. Let's not forget about the upcoming Sandman project which is also part of the Vertigo line. Sandman # 8 ( 1st appearance of Death ) is a key to grab now. Don't kid yourself, there's more going on than most ppl realize.
Great video. I am specing on Dino Riders which was the 3rd most popular cartoon in the 80's behind G.I. Joe and the transformers. Also Star wars which with so many different ones you could almost do a top 10 on the Star wars universe.
A TOP 25 speculation list of books $75-150 would be a thousand times more realistic, helpful/insightful.. I'd love to "spec/invest" on golden/silver age Marvel & DC but those are already in the thousand and up $$$ (even low grade are costly! basically
I've been saying Silver Surfer and Galactus are the characters to be speculating on for awhile now. Everyone it seems have been obsessed with the Fantastic Four and X-Men joining the MCU but only recently have I noticed that key Silver Surfer and Galactus issues have started to come up in price. I think part of the up tick has had to do with the way the FF and X-Men keys have gotten out of reach plus now we have an idea of how the Surfer and Galactus might look in an MCU film from how the celestials were portrayed in Eternals. Also I think you are right on about Zelda that seems like the next natural video game IP for Nintendo to hit after Mario.

I am not sold on these "replacement" heroes either. Definitely agree with Canto and Wolverine. The others, I think the buy in is too high or I don't think the characters will be as popular.

I personally think of books I buy as say im buying warhols' rockwells' or hoppers works to put on my wall. I never buy to flip later on . Only to have art history in my hands.

There are 8 silver surfer runs - you showed the number #1 of the third run - not the 2nd (on purpose?) I personally really like the cover of the 2nd run and got some issues pretty cheap a while back (since then gifted some away to yougling readers). I like the 3rd run cover with nova too... but guess it will take another while to see her too. Like your list - keep it up

I'm going x-men books all the way, gambit and rogue books, siktc books and strange academy because of all the firsts. Also Vigilante first app and #1 DC Deadpool. Marvel collectible classics x-men run, look what the spider-man ones did and they are still relatively cheap.
Video games and super heroes make a lot of sense for the movies and TV! Zelda Breath of the Wild is the greatest video game of all time. The hype for the sequel is off the charts. I love this spec!

BoTW turned all the imagery into works of art, and the game play was next level. It's perfect for a live action movie. The Zelda and Link casting will be critical to its success.
Kind of a few one offs, but I would be psyched to see another run of the Mask. There was a really good story with a dad and his girl that was the best Mask story I read. Also, I've been speculating about Jonny Quest comics for a while because of Venture Bros. There are no Venture Bros comics but the show is a homage to so many comics and tropes that it won't be long before people look to Jonny Quest for similar source material. They originally wanted to make the show a comic but wouldn't green light it. In the show, they reference the "Rusty Venture Show" and "The Venture Bros comics", there is a hugely satisfying "Action Jonny" arc. Just my 2 cents.
Interesting- I put a ton of money into werewolf by night #32 8.0, marvel spotlight #5 8.0 and x-men #1 cgc 3.5 about 20k I’m hoping for a 25% up tick this year. All books are down from their highs
I think you're on to something with video game property. The sleeper title i have been posting myself for are Last of Us American Dreams. The series has been well below the radar and the print count is extremely low. No one book/print has more than 7750 copies. If we're keeping score that makes it more scarce than 1# first print TWD. With the HBO series on its way, it is a near guaranteed investment that will minimum double your money. Ive bought 20 total #1 first print copies including 2 9.8 cgc copies. I don't hear many people talking about it as a spec book but once the trailer drops more fans will be fighting over these.
Yup!!! I think it’s gonna blow up by the end of the year. And I think it’s really good for long term as well. It’s the best Bronze Age comic u can buy.
My spec play is to look at anime that has crossed over to comics like Akira. You have multiple markets wanting those properties just like your Zelda pick.
My three that I couldn’t agree more on are Static, Zelda and Riri.. iron man was the star of the infinity saga. They are going to try a new iron man and seriously push her im sure so I’d definitely spec on Riri the most out of all of these. I have a invincible iron man 7 9.8 so in sittin pretty but wish I at least #9 but I don’t have that kind of cash lol
Im a long term collector but if I were looking to spec it would be all things mutant. Avengers annual 10, X-men 129 and obviously GSX1. Seems like a lazy spec but these books have come back to earth. But once we get our first taste of mutants in the MCU......

I used to collect back in the day, I'm noticing now that at least speculation wise, a tie to another 'thing' (a movie featuring the main character), is a big point these days. That wasn't so much of a thing 30 years ago. Also, it doesn't seem to effect the largest of properties. For example, Batman has a new movie, but that doesn't seem so likely to enrich the value of comics he is in (at least modern ones). I haven't watched your episodes around the time that JLA, or the Snyder Cut was released, but its my guess those movies didn't drive up value of JLA books either. So, the association with film seems strangely disproportionate to me, as it seems dependent upon emerging properties only? I'll have to watch more of your content to get a better picture of this. I love the #10 spec it's my favorite hero...I never got a FF48-50 but did get a couple of low grade copies of SS1. Need to trade someone for low grade FF48-50! I also agree on the video game boom. The streaming wars has sort of spurned this as well because now Netflix, Amazon, HBO are all looking for IP they can use so there are several franchises out there that will definitely get made!

These books are going for twice that much in the real world and on social media. I find sellers already build future speculation in their price. These values are based on the formal secondary market, rather than the informal where many sales take place.
People can ask for whatever price they want. That doesn’t reflect the actual price. Just because a seller asks for the moon doesn’t mean it will ever sell at those prices. I use actual sold prices
I would like to see ROM get made as well. IDW is still publishing ROM comics and it's not like there hasn't been talk about him coming to the big screen. But until something concrete is announced it will just be empty spec.
Most *Clive Barker* comics books, _all_ *Anne Rice* comic books. These authors will have _multiple_ TV-series and movies the next 5 years and comic book adaptions of all. These comic books are still cheap, but they do at times jump in value, like Anne Rice's comic books did when she passed this December. *These books are so cheap, there is no risk* $1 books that will be/already are worth/selling for $100+ slabbed. Maybe _all_ books from *INNOVATION* should be valued much higher in 2022? If *Groo* gets a live action, who can play Groo? *John Candy* is dead. How about *Tim Dillon* ? _What Ryan Reynolds is to Deadpool, Tim Dillion can be to Groo_ If that happens, then Groo might become a minor hit. I still think Groo will always be minor league. I always think of *MAD* when I think of Groo, was there not talk of a MAD TV-Series, with *Alfred E. Neuman* "doing stuff"? MAD Magazines are rare in a CGC 9.8 _because everyone folded the back cover_ Ah, the *Samurai Rabbit* on Netflix is CGI? *Pass* The comic books won't be worth as much because of the choice of CGI. I was really looking forward to an hand-drawn animated series, in the style of the comic book. Netflix has or will buy *Gaumont* which produced The Samurai Rabbit for them. I do not know what Gaumont owns of IPs, but I think they have the rights to an enormous amount of Franco-Belgian comics (BD franco-belge), most well known in the US are *TinTin, XIII, Asteriz, Lucky Luck, BlueBerry, Thorgal* (this will be a TVseries). But there's more, who owns the comic books/graphic novels *Humanoids* publishes? I wonder if that wasn't Gaumont? So Netflix have a motherload for comic books to adapt. There are very few/if any of these comic books that were and still are published in the album format(almost magazine format) that are slabbed. So far, only CBCS slabs the album format? Speaking of animated movies that increases value of comic books: have _any_ of the multiple-a-year *DC* direct animated movies helped to increase value on any of DC's books? It must be an over-all increase of DC comic books value, but did *The Long Halloween* books increase after the Two-Parter was released? These DC animated movies will in 2022 be released on HBOMAX worldwide, so maybe "finally" they will affect comic book values? *Dungeons&Dragons* is getting at least 1 movie, and they making it good. Theses slabbed books are climbing, raw books are low, like *under $5 Few in CGC 9.8* Fantasy has moved to TV/Apps, *Wheel Of Time* , *Middle-Earth* and 3+ more on *Amazon Prime* , *HBO* is starting a new *Game Of Thrones* in 2022, Netflix has *The Witcher* (alos comic books) main TV-series, a new Spin-Off coming, and 1 animated movie with more animated movies coming, oh and *Conan* ; I don't know how many different Conan TV-Series there will be and if the new Conan movies will be Netflix only. So Fantasy is big and will get bigger. If D&D does well at the box office, there will be money made on these $1 books from the '80's. Slabbed D&D related magazines like "Dragon" and "Dungeon" and slabbed D&D modules/campaigns are also selling. There will be a new D&D craze. We will see several $1,000 D&D comic book sale at the end of 2022. And, many video gamers want their favorite video game turned comic book slabbed on their wall in their man cave, so there will always be a market for that. Overall there's not that much gamer merch that has a "wow factor" like a slabbed *Resident Evil #1* CGC 9.8 or *Mario #1* CGC 9.8.

It really isn't rocket-science. Anything that Marvel has already announced. People have a very short-term attention span. But mark my words, you think some of these books are "expensive" now..... as soon as we see actual trailers for War-machine, Riri, Blade, and ESPECIALLY books like GS X-Men 1, Hulk 181 or F.F. 48, they will be virtually unattainable for the average person.
Love all your picks except for"ree ree" because "ree ree is poo poo" -==a woke joke that will fail. So my specs for 2021 include Dark detective 6, Justic league Europe 33...and all the first appearances of the femal version of Serpent Socoety. I think one of them appeared in the Wolveriine 2 movie already= great character.

I think you may have over looked Toxic Avenger issue 1 . It has some awesome names attached to the project.
I have a couple of copies of Toxic Avenger # 1 - both found in bargain bins. A book like that has a ceiling though. It will only go up so much.

Of this list only Canto 1 went up, Groo, Zelda and Nemesis stayed the same, but the rest tanked big time. Not much went up from a year earlier.

I love the #10 spec it's my favorite hero...I never got a FF48-50 but did get a couple of low grade copies of SS1. Need to trade someone for low grade FF48-50! I also agree on the video game boom. The streaming wars has sort of spurned this as well because now Netflix, Amazon, HBO are all looking for IP they can use so there are several franchises out there that will definitely get made!

These books are going for twice that much in the real world and on social media. I find sellers already build future speculation in their price. These values are based on the formal secondary market, rather than the informal where many sales take place.
People can ask for whatever price they want. That doesn’t reflect the actual price. Just because a seller asks for the moon doesn’t mean it will ever sell at those prices. I use actual sold prices

Limited usually goes for more, but ideally, you'd want to acquire both.
I’m hoping Alpha Flight and ROM get made. ROM especially could be done really well with transformers type CGI since Hasbro owns the rights.

I would like to see ROM get made as well. IDW is still publishing ROM comics and it's not like there hasn't been talk about him coming to the big screen. But until something concrete is announced it will just be empty spec.

These authors will have _multiple_ TV-series and movies the next 5 years and comic book adaptions of all.
These comic books are still cheap, but they do at times jump in value, like Anne Rice's comic books did when she passed this December.
*These books are so cheap, there is no risk* $1 books that will be/already are worth/selling for $100+ slabbed.
Maybe _all_ books from *INNOVATION* should be valued much higher in 2022?

The comic books won't be worth as much because of the choice of CGI. I was really looking forward to an hand-drawn animated series, in the style of the comic book. Netflix has or will buy *Gaumont* which produced The Samurai Rabbit for them. I do not know what Gaumont owns of IPs, but I think they have the rights to an enormous amount of Franco-Belgian comics (BD franco-belge), most well known in the US are *TinTin, XIII, Asteriz, Lucky Luck, BlueBerry, Thorgal* (this will be a TVseries).
But there's more, who owns the comic books/graphic novels *Humanoids* publishes? I wonder if that wasn't Gaumont? So Netflix have a motherload for comic books to adapt. There are very few/if any of these comic books that were and still are published in the album format(almost magazine format) that are slabbed.
So far, only CBCS slabs the album format?
Speaking of animated movies that increases value of comic books: have _any_ of the multiple-a-year *DC* direct animated movies helped to increase value on any of DC's books? It must be an over-all increase of DC comic books value, but did *The Long Halloween* books increase after the Two-Parter was released? These DC animated movies will in 2022 be released on HBOMAX worldwide, so maybe "finally" they will affect comic book values?
*Dungeons&Dragons* is getting at least 1 movie, and they making it good. Theses slabbed books are climbing, raw books are low, like *under $5 Few in CGC 9.8*
Fantasy has moved to TV/Apps, *Wheel Of Time* , *Middle-Earth* and 3+ more on *Amazon Prime* , *HBO* is starting a new *Game Of Thrones* in 2022, Netflix has *The Witcher* (alos comic books) main TV-series, a new Spin-Off coming, and 1 animated movie with more animated movies coming, oh and *Conan* ; I don't know how many different Conan TV-Series there will be and if the new Conan movies will be Netflix only. So Fantasy is big and will get bigger. If D&D does well at the box office, there will be money made on these $1 books from the '80's. Slabbed D&D related magazines like "Dragon" and "Dungeon" and slabbed D&D modules/campaigns are also selling.
There will be a new D&D craze. We will see several $1,000 D&D comic book sale at the end of 2022.
And, many video gamers want their favorite video game turned comic book slabbed on their wall in their man cave, so there will always be a market for that.
Overall there's not that much gamer merch that has a "wow factor" like a slabbed *Resident Evil #1* CGC 9.8 or *Mario #1* CGC 9.8.
*So Netflix _will_ have a motherload for comic books to adapt.

It really isn't rocket-science. Anything that Marvel has already announced. People have a very short-term attention span. But mark my words, you think some of these books are "expensive" now..... as soon as we see actual trailers for War-machine, Riri, Blade, and ESPECIALLY books like GS X-Men 1, Hulk 181 or F.F. 48, they will be virtually unattainable for the average person.
Af15 used to be expensive but attainable 10 years ago. Now even a low grade is a down payment on a house
