    I love your videos! You are my favourite channel on TH-cam! I'm currently a student at The Alberta College of Art and Design and I am majoring in jewelry and metal smithing! This is the kind of thing I hope to make in the future. You have amazing talent and your knowledge of craftsmanship is incredible. What I wouldn't give to pick your brain about jewelry making for a day. Thank you so much for making these videos, they are extremely helpful in my work and I've learned a lot. You're the best! :)

      I thank you, but do not limit yourself to what you see in my videos, techniques for jewelry making are many and many are craftsmen who use different techniques. Refine your skills and always experience, so work will never bother you. For the future market also learn 3D modeling on compueter, 3D printers to produce jewelery quality waxes begin to have affordable prices.

    I love your work scaffoal. A quick (and newbie) question if you don't mind : is this a durable clasp compared to, say, a spring ring or lobster clasp ? By that I mean, does the mechanism last and function well over time, with possibly thousands of opening/closing ? Besides, is it sturdy, does it resist being accidentally "pulled"/snatched ? Thank you for your help.

    • @scaffoal
      @scaffoal  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Each closure has its use and its reason to be used, even for aesthetic choices. This closure, if made well, lasts over time, integrates well with some types of chains, bracelets and necklace clasps. (I use google translator, excuse the errors)

    I have made several attempts at this closure with varying degrees of success. The problem I have is that when soldering the release button the spring, the spring loses its spring. Have you had this problem? Further to my last comment, I was using .7mm 925 silver and the closure was a bit smaller than yours which I might add was much more pleasing to the eye.

    • @scaffoal
      @scaffoal  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      it is normal, the metal when it is heated loses its elasticity. you have to hammer the spring lightly, in order to harden it.

    • @scaffoal

      After welding, to restore the strength of the spring, you have to hammer it slightly, to work harden the metal.

    • @a0cdhd
      @a0cdhd 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you most kindly for your reply. Yes I understand that the spring needs to be work hardened after it is heated but the spring is quite small (less than 5mm x 10mm x.5mm and work hardening tends to deform it somewhat. The spring release button was formed by slitting the end of the spring into three prongs. The centre prong was bent upwards to form a small goose neck which when pressed down, released the catch. Very difficult to work harden. Never mind, I'll work out something, perhaps using fine spring steel. By the way, your work is most elegant.

    Hello,
    Thank you for your video!
    Is it possible to give the sizes and measurements in order to understand the proportions and the principles ?
    Thanks again :)

      thank you, I'm sorry I can not give you the thickness of the metal because normally I do not measure it. it
      is the experience that shows me how many measures I must use, they change according to the characteristics of the metal I use.
