Jamaica Rabbit Farming: Rabbit Production in One Week

In this video we show what one week of production looks like on JSH Rabbits' Farm. When you you supplying a rabbit meat market here in Jamaica, breeding has to be consistent as the market may require supply weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or as needed. The farmer would now have to organize breeding and breed the required amount of rabbits at the specified time to ensure that they are able to meet the demand. At JSH Rabbits we breed on a weekly basis and we usually breed 8-15 rabbits weekly. Of course based on the nature of rabbits, production is not always consistent, but we try to select the best does that raise the most kits and we wean on a weekly basis.

Good morning. I don't know which breeds you have access to but New Zealand and California are recommended as ideal meat rabbits.

We wash with soap and water, rinse and sanitize with a bleach solution.

Which kind of app do you use for rabbits records keeping

We use a software called Hutch by a company named Barntrax. It's a Web based software available through your Internet browser and your mobile device. It's not free though but requires a subscription.

What's the average live weight we get at 11 weeks?

Between 4.5 lbs and 7 lbs live weight. On average in the 5 lbs range. We do have anomalies at times in the case of runts, or larger kits. We get those weights at 9-10 weeks at times.

We bought these at our local Bashco. But you may be able to get them at supermarkets or other places that sell, home and haberdashery supplies.
