Who else remembers being absolutely blown away by the graphics?
My one to ten year old brain could not tell the difference between the live action video at the beginning and the gameplay.

Did anyone always imagine a gloomy and dreary day playing this game, or was that just me? Like the sounds from the selections, going through the menu, choosing a car etc. always made me imagine a gloomy, stormy day. Like I think I remember playing this when it was stormy outside while I was in bed.

I miss the car selection of the older ones there was way more variety. I’m now playing Gran Turismo 7 on a rainy day and it feels great.

Time REALLY flies when you're having fun. Thank you for posting. Born in 88, class of 2007, this game was "The Standard" that separated the good and bad drivers in our friend group. We we're all automotive enthusiasts, so it truly was a battle for honor. SO MANY GOOD TIMES! Countless hours solo and versus. So many nights in dark rooms lit only by a screen showing gt3..."One more race" my tired comrades would whisper at 3am with eyes barely open. One more race friends. One more race.

I remember opening up the GT3 PS2 bundle for Christmas all those years ago. Truly one of the happiest moments of my childhood. I remember watching my dad doing wheelies in the Suzuki Escudo and putting a rubber band on the analog sticks for endurance races while we went out to run errands 😂 What a time.
I remember playing the demo at Sam's Club when this came out and not being able to distinguish the graphics from real life
It was mind blowing, even gt1 on ps1 was mind blowing 🤯

This game came flooding back to me the other night because I heard a song in a restaurant that triggered my memory and now here I am. This was SO good at the time, I always used to pick the VW beetle and have it in yellow 😭
I remember being woken up during endurance races by the controller shock late at night while being multiple laps ahead overpowered car.
I remember having a broken old small tv and playing this everyday after school. Thanks for the wonderfull, and horrible memories!

They had to be polished because there was no way to update them once they were released. Unless they released the game again on a different disc but whoever had already bought the game wasn't gonna buy it again.
Cant really agree with that. GT2 shipped with a bug that stopped you from getting 100% completition because before release they took out 2 tracks and never updated the code. Then there was the garage bug that made some cars in your garage (that you'd had to work hard for) disapear so that you had to grind to get them back. Pretty serious bugs. It's easy to romanticise old era's of gaming but games have been buggy all the way back to the 8 bit days (which I'm embarassed to admit that I'm old enough to remember) and probably even before then back to the days of pong (lol). The difference is the style of the bugs have changed over era's. Back in the 8 bit days there were some pretty cool bugs which you could use to exploit. Konami Ping Pong had a bug where you could set up a shot across the table that was totally unstoppable. If you could find that bug before your friends did, and keep it a secret long enough, you could pure own your friends in the game heheh. One of the NHL games on PS1 had a slapshot bug where it produced an unstoppable slapshot that was a goal every time 100%. I could go on all day, I've lived a lifetime of finding exploits and bugs in games. I should grow up but I dont really want to lol.

I remember getting this game alongside Jak and Daxter for Christmas. I didn't play much of it, but the graphics to Gran Turismo 3 are beautiful. I gotta play this beauty again someday.
My first ps2 game. 💜 Actually it came with the system, and was my only game for 4 months or so. then I remember getting 4x4 Evolution and a couple other titles, like Aqua Aqua & Medal of Honor: Frontline. Best video game system ever.

Am I the only one who thinks, or feels, this was the best Gran Turismo? Maybe I feel this was more cutting edge of the time compared to the others today, or maybe it was because of the soundtrack. But the races just seemed more satisfying in this
Nope I fucking loved gt3, maybe being biased because I’ve seen that fucking opening like 1000 times and my dad had just this gt on his ps2 but this was my childhood
gt3 is the only one I played religiously in highschool. In fact it might be the only racing game I enjoyed start to finish. gt4 was good but didn't have the same feel.
Totally agree, the best! The time and detail put into this game was amazing.

So I've had a weird dream featuring Gran Turismo 3, after nearly 20 years since the previous time of racing around the tracks. My friend who moved away years ago, and I were paling around, and pulled this off of the shelf in my dream. Which I'm unsure why he was in my mind, or why Gran Turismo 3 was there as well. So after waking up I placed an order on ebay for a new copy. There's probably no deeper meaning behind things. Weird how the mind works.

I vividly remember booting this game up for the first time and being convinced that we had reached peak graphic capabilities. Games could not possibly get anymore realistic....

I had so much money that me and my friends would buy cars tune them up and drag race in trail mountain tunnel against each other and sometimes $5 dollars a race damn those were the days when gaming was actually gaming

HDTV kinda ruins the experience. I remember playing this on the old CRTs at Best Buy, then walking outside on a sunny day, and struggling to tell the difference between cars in real life and cars in the game.

ahh GT3 was the first game i tried to 100%. they lost me at the 24hr racing sim (i simmed one 24hrs race , changing tires and refueling every 5 minutes for 8 hours. never again)

The only think is bothers me is screen not centered on some ps2 games without screen fix on modern tvs, should there is some way to fix it inside system, without use homebrews etc.

** also CRTs with PS2 running natively did some texture and blurring trickery with interlacing that made it look better than it does in progressive
