Biggest thing with these is that they’re tough. They weren’t fast even new, they were designed to be able to take a beating and keep going. These were heavy duty cars.
Agreed, bring these beasts back and give them the 5.0 and 10 speed. Hell make an Ecoboost model, too. These things would sell like hot cakes if they were brought back with some nice powerplant options.
Many departments have lots of restrictions on pursuits so that wasn't really a thing with them. The main thing was they could sit in 95-degree heat idling for hours with no issue, and the A/C on keeping the officer cool. Or parked at a crash scene for hours idling with the lights flashing. Most arrestees sat sideways in the back with their knees pointed at the door. Nice car.
I have one of these, also in black, but w/o the push bumper. Had it for over 10 years now. The car is getting old, (2010 model), and the rust is starting to crop up around the wheel wells in back and a little around the rocker panels, but it still looks pretty decent. It has 189.000 miles on it.
You are spot on about being dangerous at high speeds. I was driving back from Vegas in my 2011 a few weeks ago and was looking for something in my glove box when I realized I was heading pretty fast toward a car in the other lane so turned the wheel and almost lost it. Thank god the tires were hot. The funny thing is I had JUST got brand new rear tires a week prior. Never messing around on the freeway again lol.
Mine still had the decals and everything on it when I bought it for $2500 Left the police equipment in, changed the lightbar lenses to clear instead of blue so they're legal though, covered up the decals with paint until I can afford a full repaint The department unfortunately didn't equip the cars with pushbars or spotlights so I'm gonna be looking for the pushbar to mount on it and gonna spend a bit to get the wiring fixed, much to the dismay of anyone riding in the backseat I've decided to leave the cage in as well
