Especially the way romanians pronounce "r" sounds to her like the finnish _r._ I'm not sure, but I think we were listening to two guys from Moldova (they told us they are from there) - so I guess they were most probably speaking romanian.

I can speak both languages and there are SO many similar words... neither Romanians know them all nor Germans. I mean... few people even know how much influence the Austrian habsburgs even had on Romanian and both have heavily transliterated French words into their own culture. "E musai." = it's a must, from "Muss sein." Flamme = flamă. Petarde = petardă. Fanfare = fanfară. Schanz = şanț. Schiene = şină. Skandal = scandal. Apropo = apropo. Kalesche = caleaşcă. Spiel = şpil - trick, scam, unfair game. Spital = spital. ( Krankenhaus ) Just some quickly thought words. P.s. Banane = banană. Polizei = polițai.
Why woudn't be the other way around, the influence I mean. Looking at the romanian words, their structure look way simpler in essence looks like the orignal word

As of right now I'm slowly learning Romanian since my parents are Romanian but it's hard for me since I am fluent in English and I was born and still live in America. Personally I think Romanian is easier to understand just because I understand quite a lot of it. Also Romanian for strawberry is căpșună

Acoperis was way to hard because not only it doenst have a direct Latin/vulgar latin etymology as it is derived from the verb "acoperi", but even in Latin it was a composed word ( "ac cooperio" - "to cover completely" ).

As of right now I'm slowly learning Romanian since my parents are Romanian but it's hard for me since I am fluent in English and I was born and still live in America.
Personally I think Romanian is easier to understand just because I understand quite a lot of it.
