This is a really good example of how great Sam was in a supporting role. People hated him but I never understood that. He’s a perfect straight man and he’s a perfect sarcastic shit disturber. Great for inciting and perpetuating conflict, great for sarcastically dumping on other shows or staff workers, and he plays a PERFECT punching bag. He immediately understands the role when the show turns on him. This was a great showing. Sam, Ant and Jimmy would have been a great show.
People do rightfully give Sam shit for how much of a backstabbing scumbag he was behind the scenes, but it did make for great radio. If I worked with him I'd hate him but since I don't, he's great. Him and Jim together were just very meh though.
Sam always went along with the bashing which made it better, kinda feeding into it and playing the straight man. The Don West Wrestling Doll bit was the same way. Opie could never handle a bashing because it was always personal to him.
