I was called Tanuki whole my childhood, but I'm not american nor raccoon. Tanuki has brown hair, not gray. and tail is not striped. I think he's raccoon called Tanuki.
Note: I covered a prototype build of this back in October last year, but the latest build (coming to Steam soon), has a lot of great new upgrades (including some cool new threads for your raccoon).
I have no idea about different genres here but I'm still loving this very much, would like more variety of music just for the cute aesthetic in general
It's not specifically a synthwave graphical style. Similar graphical style is used for other things like chillwave and future funk (which is included in the soundtrack near the end of the video)
@@Cygnus99 the chill music 7:00 genre is future funk. And its underrated it gets dominated by vaporwave and lo-fi s popularity so future funk is bit at background. Not only this. Donut County was created by Ben Esposito. Ben is a part of Arcane Kids, who made Zineth (which is also similar to this game) and had a scrapped project called Perfect Stride (about skateboarding). Not sure who created this, but it's clear they are heavily influenced by Arcane Kids.
Hate to break it to you but it's actually a Tanuki (says in the title) which is a Japanese dog that bares a strong resemblance to raccoons. Personally, I prefer them over raccoons because they seem to be more approachable.
I'd call this sound more lo-fi, minus that actual low fidelity, followed by swing hop followed by future funk. I wouldn't be surprised if some synthwave showed up later tho
This reminds me of an early PS2 game. And I mean that in a good way! Interactive menus, a radio jumping in the background, simplistic yet addictive gameplay, and a demo! Takes me back.
Kinda sad they changed the chip sfx. It was sorta relaxing when you hear those crunch sfx. It was like an ASMR. But hey, it's nice to see this game got an update. The music is still chill. 😏
First thought: game starts with a sloth named Bob... this can only be amazing, and it is. No ground braking gameplay just well executed with style love it.
Man, I really love what’s going on with the skybox. It’s got that kind of stretchy, distorting-around-the-edges effect I associate with Dreamcast games. The shape and color also remind me of the original Spyro skyboxes, too... it’s a look I’m absolutely digging.
The only skateboarding game I used to play as a kid was one of the Tony Hawk's series. Never thought I'd want this aesthetic game the moment I start watching it.
Every time it says "Near Miss", I think of the George Carlin skit. "When two planes almost collide, they call it a near miss. It's a NEAR HIT! A _collision_ is a NEAR MISS!"
If it lets you upload your own music and generates a track based on it I could see this being akin to something like Audiosurf. Niche sure, but very fun for the right folks.
This is so badass! I need this in my life.when he flies off the edge, if you tap a button quickly enough he should deploy a little hang gliding outfit to give you the opportunity to make it back to the road.
Imagine being able to use custom music on this bad boy and having the sky as a visualizer. Would be an instant buy from me.

I like that this game has a raccoon called a tanuki, where usually tanukis get called raccoons outside of Japan (e.g. Tom Nook)

Tanuki are actually 'raccoon dogs', which are closer related to wolves and foxes than raccoons.
