Final Fight 3 (SNES) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

  • A playthrough of Capcom's 1996 Super NES beat 'em up, Final Fight 3.
    Played through as Dean (w/2P Haggar set to CPU Auto) on the expert difficulty level.
    This extremely late US Super Nintendo release is a MUCH larger step up from FF2 than FF2 was from the original. This almost feels like a beat em up version of Saturday Night Slammasters. Several moves are done now using classic SF2 button combos, levels have branching paths, the CPU can play with you as a second player if you don't have a human (and it does fairly well!), and the music is kick ass.
    It's an awesome game, plays like a dream, and has an insane amount of variety. I still can't quite get over my near obsession with Final Fight enough to say this is the superior game, but in all reality, it is. Who says that likes and dislikes have to be logical though? :)

    Man haggar is a beast. More mayors should take this kind of approach to running a city.
    Your city streets are overrun with thugs? Start benching 450lbs and beat them up yourself.

      And lets not forget Ring of Destruction: Slam Masters II, where we see Mike Haggar pile dive wrestlers right through utterly thick lairs of stone, ice, gold plates and even steel.
      Capcom should really do a Final Fight 4 game and have Mike Haggar pile dive gangsters in the same way he did with the wrestlers to the point where he leaves huge craters when cutting lose.

      Not to mention he also finances the repairs himself in exchange for royalties for a few years. So he ends up making all the money back for Metro City. Saw that in an interview Q&A with a Capcom dev.

      And yes, if Capcom dose Final Fight 4, they should have it so Mike Haggar can pile dive gangsters, criminals and terrorist right through the floors to the very point where it causes an explosion every time he dose hehehehehehehe =)

      @@dragoneye6229 Indeed, for if Final Fight 4 ever dose happen, they should make it feel like your playing the Final Fight arcade again with a number of differences, 4 player co-op is one of those things among with exp, where the fighters can gain more hit points, learn new abilities and what-not, even the ability to buy stuff (Mighty Final Fight did allow player characters to gain exp).

      This is my opinion as well. SoR2 is my favorite followed by FF3.
      I think the reason Streets of Rage is more popular as a series is because it was more important to the appeal of the Genesis. In my head, SoR just seems like a more iconic series on the Genesis whereas Final Fight got lost in the shuffle on SNES.
      To the guy mentioning SoR3, what really hurts the game is not the sometimes cheap difficulty, but the music not being anywhere near as good as the music in the first two games and the visuals not being the kind of upgrade you'd expect over SoR2 (lots of reused assets, murkier colors, etc.). You're right of course that the game is not bad, but the overall package didn't endear itself to people like the first two games did.

    The sad thing about games released at the end of a console's life is that they get ignored for the new hardware, but they are often among the best of their generation and will likely be of higher quality than their more "advanced" releases in the same time frame. Think about it; developers have had years of experience with this system so they can push it to the limit. On the other hand, developers often needed a couple years to really take advantage of a system's specs back in the day.

      THIS, this game, is the grand daddy of 16 bit beat em ups, guys like Yohko M would have you believe otherwise (he's from the UK, so that explains why he's a Genesis fanboy). Giant sprites, great soundtrack, super moves you build a meter for (ala Super Street Fighter II), multiple stage paths, this game has it. Yeah Streets of Rage 2 is great, but this is the game I go to first for a beat em up after Turtles in Time.

    • @2010MrIsaac
      @2010MrIsaac 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Um... it was released in January of 1996. It wasn’t largely ignored, as the SNES still sold quite a lot in 1996. In fact, 2 of the top 5 best selling games for DECEMBER 1996 were SNES games.
      The system only went kinda “dead” in 1997 and 1998.

    • @megavolt67
      @megavolt67 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@2010MrIsaac Yeah. I think the issue is more that beat 'em ups as a genre were kind of dead by then. After Street Fighter 2, the versus fighter replaced the beat 'em up as the go-to genre for playing a game with your buddies.
      But Genesis and SNES were still going strong in 1995 and SNES was still going strong in 1996. 1997 was the first year when the then next gen consoles completely took over the top of the sales charts.

    Do you guys know,that this game has some cool ''secret levels''? In Stage 2 @ 11:39,if you break the door you can enter the bar and fight the boss ''Callman'' inside.In Stage 3,if you don't break the bus-stop sign,a bus appears and you get 2 extra levels and a boss .You then ride the bus,fighting goons inside and arrive at a junkyard,where you fight your way to another parked bus,there you fight the boss,on top of the bus.Beware,he's a total asshole with a long reach that does lots of damage.
    And in stage 5,in the factory,if you go inside the secret area,@ 30:27 and destroy all the big machine thingys in the background,you then finish the stage and don't have to fight the boss ''Stray'',you go automatically to the next stage.

      P.S. I forgot,in stage 5,in the sewer level,if you go up to the entrance with the ladder ,in the background,@ 25:20 you can go up.Then you get 3 extra levels and a boss.You first fight on the streets,in Chinatown,then go up,fight your way through the rooftop of a chinese restaurant,,then you fight in the restaurant and then you fight the boss,in the kitchen.He's super easy to beat,but he has a lot of health.After that,you end up on the level before the factory, @ 26:50.

He looks more like he want to yodel on a mountain than fight off street thugs. Still a fun game though, shame Maki wasn't in this one too. Capcom thankfully didn't forget about her, and put her in SF Alpha 3 GBA, and SF Alpha 3 Max on PSP, as well as Capcom Vs SNK 2. Lucia kind of dropped off the radar after, along with Dean.

      Retro Frontier I totally agree, it just didn't feel like a Capcom game at all. In fact the first thing that came to my mind when I originally played it was that it felt like Brawl Brothers or Rival Turf so a Jaleco feel is is spot on. It's decent enough but bar the Final Fight name it's just a very middle of the road SNES brawler.

      retro frontier I disagree this is capcoms best. graphics ain't choppy hardly. the best animation I ever seen. in final fight. title. jaleco is okay at 2d beat em' up brawlers. their best one is brawl bros . but toe to toe it can.t compete with final fight 3. in the presentation and graphics department. I think jaleco could learn something from Capcom. on how to make their 2d brawlers look much better. rival turf is blazay. and choppy and character animation is too small.

      Joan Agrossa, the first Final Fight on SNES was an early game for Capcom, so they didn't have the experience under their belts with the SNES like they did with this game later on. First game is also on a smaller cart, so that pretty much affected the first game, and why it wasn't as good as it should've been.

    Yeah, it's a great FF, great beat'em up and I agree that FF3 turns out to be actually even better than original arcade game, even if it's graphics is still a bit worse. The only major flaw that it has is terrible restriction on the number of enemies on the screen at the same time, you literally just fight with 3 mooks basically almost everywhere and it does feels kinda disappointing, especially compare to what Streets of Rage 3 and 2 can handle. Other flaws is too minor to talk about here, so overall it's sucks that sales were apparently not impressive, cause this game deserve a success.
    Come to think of it, strange that SEGA decided to not even try to trick anyone and stick with 5 enemies max for both games(6 in 2 player mode on mania for SOR2, another bizarre limitation) The reason why 5 enemies is even a restriction in the first place is not only technical but also because 2p has an ability to join at any time during 1p through, which can leads to total 7-8 large humanoid sprites at the same time aka obvious maximum for Genesis hardware. But they totally could have just remove that particular feature allowing 2p to join only in the beginning of the game and nowhere else. That way in single player mode Streets of Rage 3 could had handle 6 enemies and SoR 2 even 7(!), which is an insane number compare to what all Final Fight's can barely render on the SNES. I mean, look at this epic bullshot by me:
    i.imgur.com/T4FcBAd.png
    Yet, it was never done. I wonder why? Seems like a great thing for marketing, back then SEGA used everything to mock Nintendo rival hardware. Hard to believe than an ability to just jump in the game as second player was so necessary on consoles.

    • @Bloodreign1
      @Bloodreign1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sega mocked, but in the end it was all for naught. Instead of focusing on continuing to make great games for the Genesis, Sega was too busy making boneheaded decisions with the 32X and the Sega CD. Nintendo on the other hand, rode that SNES/SFC train till 2000 (at least in Japan anyway).
      Oh and there are instances of 4 opponents on the screen at once, watch the longplay all the way through and you'll see. SOR has smaller sprites than this game, and the bigger sprites put quite a strain on RAM (that's why Earthquake was axed from Sam Sho on Genesis, since they went with bigger sprites, while SNES went with smaller ones). Also a lot of those sprites were pretty much the same sprite multiple times,since they are mirror image sprites, might not have been too hard for the console to render them. Remember, the SNES was not built to be an arcade at home machine, it was built to be a console machine, and built more for RPG's and adventure games, those likely sold a lot more on the NES than arcade ports did (RPG's sold like hot cakes in Japan, just look at sales for the Dragon Quest series). This game is also a better looking game than the Streets of Rage game, the background detail in some of the stages is spectacular.

    I don't get this hype at all, I think Final Fight 1 and 2 are much better. This feels like it wants to be Streets of Rage too much and has annoyingly unnecessary flashy moves.

    • @Bloodreign1
      @Bloodreign1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is far better than the first two Final Fight games IMO. You don't have to use the flashy moves if you don't want to,but the flashy moves are pretty much in every beat em up belt scroller out there.

    • @asamiyashin444
      @asamiyashin444 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is not a Final Fight. It is too far from the original concept. Like someone else said, this looks like some Jaleco Final Fight wannabe or some Streets of Rage (which is another Final Fight wannabe). Nothing beats the original arcade Final Fight 1. It's a shame that it never had a decent sequel.
