For me it's a 50/50 split, the film versions seem to have more body verses Abba who are pitch perfect but some songs lack soul, difficult to explain but I hope you understand! 😄

Absolutely love ABBA without a doubt but also love how the film animated the ABBA songs for me beyond the original videos . Giving them a new meaning that I hadn’t thought of before.
I like both. If I want classic rock and my childhood, then I listen to ABBA, but for energetic and "fun" versions of these songs, then Mamma Mia! Not to say that ABBA isn't "fun" though, but that is the main difference between the two for me.😊
ABBA hands down! The vocals of ABBA easily outstrip those of the Mama Mia actors (1 and 2). Sure the Mama Mia movie scenes and performances are fun, but ABBA's voices always send the songs to a higher level.
The production and sound quality is obviously way better in mamma mia since they were recorded with more advanced technology (2008 vs 1970s). So that's why I think most people prefer the movie soundtrack. But Abba's vocals are way better than the actors in Mamma Mia with the exception of Amanda. Also for me abba sounds more nostalgic.

Hard decision. I love the harmonies of ABBA but there is something about the vocals of Meryl, Amanda, Julie, Christine, and Pierce that make the songs fresh and new. This music is eternal.

Look, the Mamma versions are fine in the context of fitting in the storyline of a musical. In this video, they also benefit from the stunning backdrops, cinematography and huge choreography. But listen and compare them without the visuals. It's really 'no contest'. Benny and Bjorn's arrangements are superb throughout but the ABBA girls are not only brilliant singers individually but their beautiful harmony is a sound unmatched in Pop history. . There's a reason why they inspired other movies before MM like Muriel's Wedding. Not to mention countless tribute bands. So it's ABBA all the way. Can't wait for these new songs to be released.
Hands down Abba every day! All my love to Mamma Mia, one of the best films ever made. But the music /piano and guitar in the Mamma Mia films were actually the Abba musicians & Bjorn and Benny anyway so?!😂😂 Bjorn and Benny managed to change key signatures then play their songs just for the actors who withstanding Amanda Seyfried can’t sing anyway hahah! Agnetha and Frida have my heart, their vocals can’t be beat.

Personally, for some songs, Mamma Mia is better, but for others, Abba all the way. Example: Our last summer sounds better in Mamma Mia than the Abba, and i think thats due to the male leads with the song. Same for Lay all your love on me, the Male lead in that fits the tune better. But, songs like Money Money Money or Super Trouper sounds a ton better with Abba than Mamma Mia. Of course, Mamma Mia introduced me into Abba in the first place, but some things sound better with the movie and others with the original, so really its all preference and opinion in the end
Our Last Summer was written for a female to sing. What you hear in Mamma Mia is a shortened version of the original song. It skips the first two verses, one of which contains the line 'And I smiled like Mona Lisa', not something a man would sing. Both versions have the classic ABBA arrangements courtesy of Benny/Bjorn. It's simply the quality of the singing that is the absolute deal-breaker. The ABBA original has got soaring vocals and angelic harmonies. Something Pierce and Colin never had a hope in matching. Fine whilst watching the film but without the visuals, it's just a couple of blokes doing a passable karaoke effort.
I'm used to the Abba versions. I always liked older music growing up in the 90s. I have Abbas greatest hits album on vinyl. I'm glad their music was popular enough for this movie to be made, now many high school drama clubs are performing MamaMia
You also have to realize, a lot of lyrics were changed for Mama Mia to fit the story, and why some songs were cut from the movie as well. Mama Mia: Here We Go Again has a lot of lyric changes with some of the biggest being "I've Been Waiting for You", "My Love, My Life". But it's was fun to see "Money! Money! Money!" mimic the old video.

I grew up listening to ABBA in my grandmas car and they have always been one of my favorite bands, mama Mia and mama Mia 2 are also my daughters favorite movies and now that my grandma is gone listening to ABBA brings me back to special times in my childhood with her and I love that .
As much as I love ABBA's originals the best, Mamma Mia 1 and 2 did a great job with their songs. Although the versions are different from ABBA, they retained the most of the originality of the tunes and the emotion. The only differences were the voices. Because of that, not only is ABBA a classic, so is Mamma Mia 1 and 2. As for the A-teens 20 years ago, they were called ABBA Teens. They made new versions of some of ABBA's songs, however they were not so great. Never mind the different voices, they took off a lot of the emotions of the ABBA songs and added too much remixed tunes and a little too wild and too much screaming and the songs that were supposed to be sad melodic emotional ABBA songs, they changed up the tunes so much that they sounded like people were supposed to be happy over these sad story lines. Our Last Summer was the only ABBA song that the A-Teens made that kept the original feeling. A-teens were only a short famed pop group and everyone forgot about them. They were not very classic and their popularity went out the window very quick.
Seriously we’re fighting about this? Why can’t fans get along. Benny Anderson and Björn Ulvaeus from ABBA worked in this movie. Both sound great, I prefer ABBA so I think it is the slightest bit better except for honey, honey. We grew up with different lifestyles so why can’t one like one and the other group like the other version. Mamma Mia wouldn’t be here without ABBA but Mamma Mia isn’t bad. ABBA is forever.

Guys you don’t have to fight we’re entitled to our own opinions. People like different things, it’s one of the great things that make humans unique. We have different understandings of things depending on when your born, where you from etc.
I mean I love both but I also grew up watching mama Mia so I am going to have to say that! Though mama Mia would be nowhere without ABBA so it was a tough one!!
I have to say for most of the songs I can like and appreciate both versions honestly for different reasons. The original ABBA songs have a very 70's feel and tone to them that feeds into the movie versions of the songs, but with a mostly up-tempo spike that lets the actors sing the songs in slightly their own way and have their voices carry the tune. I grew up in the 70's and listened to ABBA along with other bands at the time and I can remember thinking their music was pretty good and kind of easy to use as an escape from life at that time. Now that 2 movies have come out with their songs, it's a huge nostalgia trip for me to hear those songs again but with different voices and different production that made them alot more fun this time, especially in the movies. I also believe that Benny Anderson had a HUGE part in making sure the film was mostly faithful to the story it was trying to tell; and especially to the songs as they were spot on almost to the originals other than some modernization of instruments and production, and the new voices from the actors. I happened to like very much all of the actors singing their own parts in the songs for the most part, and I even loved hearing Pierce Brosnan singing his parts of songs despite the fact that he dosent have a very polished singing voice. Everyone in the cast seemed to be having a blast with the film and the music and that also makes me look favorably on the actors singing abilities. Overall I'm just going to have to say I love the ABBA songs, both from then and from now just for different reasons but they still give me feelings and goosebumps in all the right places.
I was in the era of ABBA, I know all their songs and have owned all their albums. I consider them one of the best artists EVER! The movie Mamma Mia was a tribute to them. Wow, one of the best ever! Thank you for this video!!!

If I were e.g. a Beyoncé fan I would write her name correctly even though we don't have é in my language. The letter ö is very easy to use with a computer, even if you are in the UK or other English speaking countries. So laziness is the only excuse for not using it. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for laziness. Just don't try to be an excellent ABBA fan if you don't even write their names right 😑

Hard decision. I love the harmonies of ABBA but there is something about the vocals of Meryl, Amanda, Julie, Christine, and Pierce that make the songs fresh and new. This music is eternal.

Look, the Mamma versions are fine in the context of fitting in the storyline of a musical. In this video, they also benefit from the stunning backdrops, cinematography and huge choreography. But listen and compare them without the visuals. It's really 'no contest'. Benny and Bjorn's arrangements are superb throughout but the ABBA girls are not only brilliant singers individually but their beautiful harmony is a sound unmatched in Pop history. . There's a reason why they inspired other movies before MM like Muriel's Wedding. Not to mention countless tribute bands. So it's ABBA all the way. Can't wait for these new songs to be released.
Hands down Abba every day! All my love to Mamma Mia, one of the best films ever made. But the music /piano and guitar in the Mamma Mia films were actually the Abba musicians & Bjorn and Benny anyway so?!😂😂 Bjorn and Benny managed to change key signatures then play their songs just for the actors who withstanding Amanda Seyfried can’t sing anyway hahah! Agnetha and Frida have my heart, their vocals can’t be beat.

Personally, for some songs, Mamma Mia is better, but for others, Abba all the way.
Example: Our last summer sounds better in Mamma Mia than the Abba, and i think thats due to the male leads with the song. Same for Lay all your love on me, the Male lead in that fits the tune better.
But, songs like Money Money Money or Super Trouper sounds a ton better with Abba than Mamma Mia.
Of course, Mamma Mia introduced me into Abba in the first place, but some things sound better with the movie and others with the original, so really its all preference and opinion in the end

Our Last Summer was written for a female to sing. What you hear in Mamma Mia is a shortened version of the original song. It skips the first two verses, one of which contains the line 'And I smiled like Mona Lisa', not something a man would sing. Both versions have the classic ABBA arrangements courtesy of Benny/Bjorn. It's simply the quality of the singing that is the absolute deal-breaker. The ABBA original has got soaring vocals and angelic harmonies. Something Pierce and Colin never had a hope in matching. Fine whilst watching the film but without the visuals, it's just a couple of blokes doing a passable karaoke effort.

You also have to realize, a lot of lyrics were changed for Mama Mia to fit the story, and why some songs were cut from the movie as well. I grew up listening to ABBA in my grandmas car and they have always been one of my favorite bands, mama Mia and mama Mia 2 are also my daughters favorite movies and now that my grandma is gone listening to ABBA brings me back to special times in my childhood with her and I love that .
As much as I love ABBA's originals the best, Mamma Mia 1 and 2 did a great job with their songs. Although the versions are different from ABBA, they retained the most of the originality of the tunes and the emotion. The only differences were the voices. Because of that, not only is ABBA a classic, so is Mamma Mia 1 and 2. As for the A-teens 20 years ago, they were called ABBA Teens. They made new versions of some of ABBA's songs, however they were not so great. Never mind the different voices, they took off a lot of the emotions of the ABBA songs and added too much remixed tunes and a little too wild and too much screaming and the songs that were supposed to be sad melodic emotional ABBA songs, they changed up the tunes so much that they sounded like people were supposed to be happy over these sad story lines. Our Last Summer was the only ABBA song that the A-Teens made that kept the original feeling. A-teens were only a short famed pop group and everyone forgot about them. They were not very classic and their popularity went out the window very quick.

Seriously we’re fighting about this? Why can’t fans get along. Benny Anderson and Björn Ulvaeus from ABBA worked in this movie. Both sound great, I prefer ABBA so I think it is the slightest bit better except for honey, honey. We grew up with different lifestyles so why can’t one like one and the other group like the other version. Mamma Mia wouldn’t be here without ABBA but Mamma Mia isn’t bad. ABBA is forever.

I have to say for most of the songs I can like and appreciate both versions honestly for different reasons. The original ABBA songs have a very 70's feel and tone to them that feeds into the movie versions of the songs, but with a mostly up-tempo spike that lets the actors sing the songs in slightly their own way and have their voices carry the tune. I grew up in the 70's and listened to ABBA along with other bands at the time and I can remember thinking their music was pretty good and kind of easy to use as an escape from life at that time. Now that 2 movies have come out with their songs, it's a huge nostalgia trip for me to hear those songs again but with different voices and different production that made them alot more fun this time, especially in the movies. I also believe that Benny Anderson had a HUGE part in making sure the film was mostly faithful to the story it was trying to tell; and especially to the songs as they were spot on almost to the originals other than some modernization of instruments and production, and the new voices from the actors. I happened to like very much all of the actors singing their own parts in the songs for the most part, and I even loved hearing Pierce Brosnan singing his parts of songs despite the fact that he dosent have a very polished singing voice. Everyone in the cast seemed to be having a blast with the film and the music and that also makes me look favorably on the actors singing abilities. Overall I'm just going to have to say I love the ABBA songs, both from then and from now just for different reasons but they still give me feelings and goosebumps in all the right places.
