    EMF is a low energy non ionizing radiation, meaning it doesn't have the energy to break apart cells and is pretty much harmless to the human body. Gauss is a measure of magnetic field strength. Volts/meter is a measure of electric field strength. You wouldn't put highly sensitive electronics in an area with extremely strong EMF readings without hardening them in some form, the danger is to electronics, not humans. All electricity creates a electric/magnetic field so the current going through the resistors in your electric heater as well as the blower motor all create EMF.

    Emf is electro magnetic field strength/density. The gauss is the unit of magnetic flux density B. You use magnets to cut through copper invisibly to make electricity. (basics) The more stuff you run in the house that is old school bulbs or heaters or large appliances, the more field strength you need, and if you go check your main panel while doing so, you will send your meter buggy. Emf, fields, magnetic pulses are how you send data through the air like cell or radio waves. Magnetic fields seem on the most part harmless for most devices as long as your not close to it. Big antennas= higher field density and more power being output. Being near them is not good because they are running at a higher frequency. Household stuff is for the most part considered safe. The only concern would be transformers like the ones on the poles outside or bigger, if they are inside you should probably not be eating your lunch around it just in case. lol. On the other side we are being swamped with more signals then ever before being routers, phones, tablets, and computers. People claiming sensitivity is probably more fear based than anything. Like aliens! I still have not seen one!

    But yet though have a cell phone pressed against their head day and night.

    • @Conservator.
      @Conservator. 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly. I had a discussion with a friend who wasn’t happy with a GSM pole across the street. I explained that the antenna’s on that pole transmit with the same amount of power as his cellphone does. So it’s like being scared by a bunch of cellphones across the street.
      To clarify: imagine two people at a distance. Only one has a loudspeaker 📢. They wouldn’t be able to communicate. It’s the same for cellphones. It doesn’t make sense to have a strong amplifier at the pole and not on the cellphone. You’d have great reception but would not be able to transmit back.
      So if you’re really concerned with cellphone radiation, don’t hold it to your head but put it in hands free mode all the time. But to be honest, just don’t be concerned.

    There have been ongoing concerns over the levels of Electromagnetic Fields (EMF’s) and the effects on humans. Anyplace that has electrical transformers, florescent light ballasts, even the high voltage overhead power lines that bisect residential neighborhoods will generate various levels of EMF.
    My industry (wireless communications) takes energy radiation levels very serious as engineers/technicians are required to perform installations or maintenance to (transmit) antennas mounted on building rooftops or radio towers.
    The people required to perform their jobs in high level EMF locations are trained to take the necessary precautions. OSHA and the FCC have set mandatory guidelines to protect the wellbeing of the general public.
    Opposing arguments have been addressed on this topic, but our modern-day lifestyles have us exposed to very minimal levels of EMF most of the time.

Science is a way for us to understand the natural world, so let's seek understanding and the requisite causality so we can make better choices for our health and safety. And please God protect us from those who would prey on our fears by lying and false testimony.

    Amazing work and effort. Few and far between these days. As far as EMF goes there hasnt been any negative health benefits proven to date that I am aware of. In large prolonged quantities there could be negative health benefits which I believe is the crux of the whole "5g gives you cancer" fiasco that people are worried about. Coming from the telecom industry typically the only concern we have is the amount of interference that it causes to the equipment that we use to provide service to locations I.E. radio shots, satellite uplinks ect. But to interfere with that equipment it has to be larger power sources such as large generators or other broadcasting devices operating on the same frequency. In the typical residential environment the most harm EMF could cause is probably WiFi interference.
    Anyways, keep up the great work!

    Some of those random spooks that go around are so stupid, magnetic fields aren't going to cause problems unless maybe you're going to go take a good long sleep in an MRI. Sadly, people freaking out about something they heard on the internet/news will rarely listen to reason. :p
    Good thinking on placing the boards from the roof before attaching them, it's little things like that that make your life less stressful. Better to take a few trips up to the roof, rather than having to come back through to patch up the paint, and maybe even use some filler.
    Personally, I have a 3.0Ah on my multitool (It's a makita if that matters to you).

    Cool video great job but in South Florida never would have been that easy fascia wood is behind 1 by furring strip both are shot from the top through drip edge and 16 penny nails everywhere because of hurricane code the rip and the prep would have been a nightmare and no one here wants to spend that type of money for that quality of a job have laid wood floors of all types for over 20 years and would be picked apart on every single job! Probably one of the last natives left in South Florida thinking it's about time to leave and relocate to a place where people appreciate quality craftsmanship.

    Electromagnetic fields can be generated by AC or DC currents. An EMF meter can measure AC electromagnetic fields, which are usually emitted from man-made sources such as electrical wiring, while gaussmeters or magnetometers measure DC fields, which occur naturally in Earth's geomagnetic fieldand are emitted from other sources where direct current is present.

    My mother wears EMF jewelry and has plates around the house to absorb them. She even gave me a stone to wear. She had ablation surgery to stop Atrial Fib and is afraid too much EMF will cause it to return. anything to make her happy.

    Couple of questions: are you using stainless or galvanized nails? Do they have a head or finish nails? Will you cover the nail heads? Do you ever get stiffed by the client?

    • @TheHandyman1
      @TheHandyman1  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +SKWDMDYT galvanized nails with a head ment for installing hardy siding. They have glue on them too. They all get caulked abd psinted. Haven't been stiffed yet.

    Obviously, some EM is dangerous - microwaves and UV radiation are obvious examples, but cell phones have been found to cause issues too...
    There are two separate mechanisms for damage from EM radiation; Ionizing radiation, mostly UV radiation from sunlight or solar lamps, can damage your skin's DNA. Other forms of EM radiation simply generate heat when It hits you, and the frequency of the radiation determines how deep this effect reaches, which is why low-frequency radio waves are a problem - they heat up the inside of your skin, a bit like a microwave - But in any case of non-ionizing radiation, be it infrared, microwave, or radio, the damaging effect likely only occurs when the source of powerful enough to cause substantial heating.
    The bottom line: If your device is giving off UV radiation, it's a serious health risk - If your device is radiating significant levels of other forms of EM radiation, it makes sense not to spend all day rubbing up against it.
    So I would tell customers not to sit directly in the line of sight of a space heater or other strong EM radiator. But your (normal) lights, gadgets, appliances and magnetic devices (motors, etc.) are not a problem, with the possible exception of radio transmitters like cell phones and WiFi modems, but only if you're physically touching them while they're running on full power, since they're just not very powerful.
    I should reassure people and say that modern phones are safer than older ones, since they are more efficient - smartphone companies would rather not waste battery life on sending overpowered signals.
    Mostly, I'd worry about lightbulbs and space heaters... And it's easy enough to explain in commonsense terms: They feel hot when you move your hand towards it, so you're being bombarded with heating radiation which isn't good for you in the long term. Same with the sun and UV lamps.
    Aside from items that obviously cause radiative heating, I think cell phones are likely the only devices that you should be worried about, and only while it's powering its radio transmitter, such as during a call.

    Gauss is pronounced like Grouse without the R - Gous. mG is mili-Gauss. The other measure is Tesla's or Micro-Tesla's. You have to be exposed to a very high volume for a very long time for it to have any significant effect.

    The previous owner used the soffit metal strips for the garage - unfortunately he also has a metal 'pipe' in the roof (must have had a stove in the garage) and it isn't capped. Once I find out the size I need and cap the 'pipe,' I need to replace the soffit (raccoons, etc. have done a job on it and it's falling down). Glad to know I can use the thin plywood to replace the skimpy metal (then I'll still need to evict those tenants!). (I used to have trouble remembering which is soffit and which is fascia - then I thought, 'Hum, my face is vertical and in front of me. Fascia (face-see-a) is vertical and in front - so Face equals Fascia!').

      On jobs like this it is by the linear foot not square foot. I think this was 360 linear feet and I think the total cost was around $9,000.
