Dude, I am on the exact same page as you. As someone with a 2012 T-reg TDI I agree with you 100%. Even if they offer a buy back to me I will not take it. If only people knew the pollution that toyota prius' cause during manufacturing as well as the disposal of their battery packs... then maybe they'd change their tune and step down off their high horse.

Diesel actually makes less CO2 pollution, but more NOx which comes from heat. I've seen some school buses that had huge cloud of smoke but no one will investigate that))

So, what did you do? Did you keep it? Love an update.

Do you live in a state that does emission testing? I ask because you mentioned changing what VW did to it to make it compliant in order to get maximum performance and mileage. Will it still pass a smog test after changing the software or adding a tune? If it will not pass, then what's the point? I own a 2014 Passat TDI that underwent the VM "fix". I bought the car after the fix so I have nothing to compare performance to. The car has enough power and the mileage is very decent, but I wouldn't mind giving it a kick in the pants with a tune. I just want to be able to pass a California smog test without having to disable everything and go back to the VW "fix" setting every other year when I smog the car. If you have an answer, I'd certainly appreciate it. Thanks for sharing your thought with us.

    Great review!
The whole story with the emission is related to the lack of correlation between the physical limits of performance/ emissions/ costs, which nobody could have achieved for real. At least one had to be down. all major producers do tricks, lab test instead of real life ones etc.
The other thing is beside what you said regarding those smoke throwing cars, cars not functioning in parameters etc, is ...surprise...USA produces more than 50% of its electricity by burning coal...omg...at the last conference for green energy, as far as I know, it was the only country on the planet which didn;t align with the rest...so...doesn't that sound a bit hypocritical (to brag so much about the diesel gate?). Yes, they pay...and yes, we will pay...

Where does one go for these after market tune ups after the fix?
    And are they worth it?

the two i know of are Unitronic and the diesel specialist Malone Tuning. both gain good power numbers while keeping good mpg.

You need to do a egr delete and dpf and remap ur computer as it will not run proprely without the egr and dpf. Power gain Alot 30% Plus 20 to 25% fuel economy increase
