Honestly it all depends on the person. Growing up I always thought of myself as a quick learner. I was pretty good at most sports. If you’re a fast learner I’d say you can get the ST as a first bike and I’ll recommend going to MSF course before you do. I had an iron 883 and got a stage 1, made the bike look sick af. But after 8 months I test rode the ST and traded my 883 in. 883 is top heavy and the ST feels way easier to control. I’m short 5’4. Only thing I need to do is get a lowering kit to back up the bike when I need to. The price tag should not be an issue if you know you can afford it. Get engine guards as well. I think the ST is easy to control and has plenty of power. Go take it for a test ride. All I know is that you will outgrow the 883. I see 883 as a toy you want to take out here and there. The ST you want to ride as much as you can because it’s super comfortable and convenient

    5:06 Nooooooooooo!!! Worst advise 😅
This is what good advice looks like, if you’re set on a Low Rider S or Dyna model, buy used! Buy something with clean title. If you decide it’s too big, too heavy, too much power then sell it! It holds its value very well.
If you decide you like it and want a bigger, newer or fast bike, sell it.
Iron 883-1200 have one of the worst resell value. Most Harley’s lose 20% of their value while the iron loses 35%. Only value an iron has is a trade in but that’s it.

It’s hard to pick, when I get a bike it’s gonna be my only one for a loooong time . Sportster and 883 just seem to small

The least thing beginners need is laughably overweight and shitty handling bikes like Harleys...

Sorta dorky but the reality is that you'll damage the thing by dropping it...that costs a lot. The FXLRST is a heavy machine. They're expensive. Drop it once and be sure to have plenty of tissues available to wipe away your tears...and a fat wallet to fix the thing unless of course insurance takes care of it. I'm pretty sure a 'beginner' would not even come close to getting this bike so the whole subject is nonsense.
