When I was a kid in the 60's in Iowa, a lot of farms had an AC 60 parked out back. Custom combining was taking over. But before that they were the most popular pull type combine around. Very good design for the day. With different screens and adjustments they would harvest any crop. They even sold a corn head for them, although I never saw one. I had 2 given to me by neighbors when I was 12 or so. I tinkered with them quite a bit, but never got them working. New canvases were more than I could afford at that age. I am sure they went to scrap after we moved away.

      Thanks for the story.
I'm glad I found this one. I spent a winter fixing it up and cleaning out mouse nests.the bones and sheet metal is pretty well in tack.id like to find or make more sizes of screens.
Stay tuned I'll hopefully be doing some soybeans in the next couple of weeks.

Spent many an hour on a combine like that. Where your weed seeds were coming our we fastened a bag and dumped in the fence line. Ours was originally a bagger. It did not have a bin but a bin was put on before we bought it. As with yours the spout filling the bin did not empty in the centre of the bin. So I would ride the combine and heap up the bin. Used to sit on the platform for the weed seed bag. From there you could "help" the canvas or reels if they stopped. Used to do custom combining for neighbouring farms at five dollars an hour which was the going rate. One dollar per foot of cutter bar on the combine. Spent most of a month every year riding that machine from when the dew came off in the morning until the dew started coming on in the evening. How old was I ? Well if you look around the 8:15 mark i could not reach the bin from where you are standing so had to stand on the weed seed platform to heap the bin, I appreciate you posting the video, Bringing back the memories of the heat and the itch from what ever came through that burlap weed seed bag and would get down the back of my neck I could do without. But thanks again,

Thank you very much for the stories. Seems like every time I have that out an old timer will stop and watch and talk about similar stories.
People my age and younger look at me as foolish, but I'm proud to own and use such a piece of our great history. Thanks for watching I hope to have many more videos.

Yes it did. Back in the day my dad ran this machine in combining my uncle's wheat. Used a burlap bag to catch the weed seed.

That was a popular model combine back in the day. I remember the weed seed bags on older combines . We had a smaller Allis Chalmers combine that had a 3ft header.

It’s wild how small of a tractor is needed to run that combine. Back in the day the tractor would have been 2x the size with probably the same horsepower. Weight is the big thing though

That is the only problem, not enough weight. If I were to buy a new tractor just like this. I'd put on ag tread tires and load them.

I have a compact massey ferguson that is probably similar in size to your deere. I am curious if my tractor would run such an implement. What size deere are you running?

      It's a 3038e (38 horsepower)
It does a lot for its size.
      Thanks for watching!

I put an airiator in it. It seems pretty good now. I'm just going to feed it to the cattle...
