I went through 8 injectors and cups ( 6 new then later 2 replaced under warranty) and 5 coolant reservoirs... I never knew these were related issues. I even asked every single dealer to give me a reason about why im replacing reservoirs every few months. They had no answer for me. The whole time I thought it was just crap quality reservoirs.... Now, I remember after the 2 warranty injectors and cups, i never had a reservoir problem since. Thanks for this video and comments to help me figure it out.
@@467inc yes, the pressure from the bad cups was bursting the reservoir. That's why I changed so many, but not one volvo technician could inform me that this was a symptom of bad injector cups.
Hey i have the same problem. I replaced the compressor, my egr cooler is deleted, i took the head out i had 1 cup leaking so I replaced them all, placed everything back and i still have the same problem. Anyone can help please?
Thanks for video. I have this happened few times until watched other bloggers video and read forums about d13. Its common thing and kept antifreeze level by the low mark all the time.
Nice I always wondered why my level stay at the minimum just about little more then minimum and it works just fine for me for all these years. Every time when I try to top off, antifreeze went out.
If you think you have a pressure issue drill the small hole a top of the cap. Fill it up the antifreeze between minimum and maximum and keep it in there. All these years it worked just perfect for me and it's still working on my truck. Usually tracks over 700.00 miles has this issue. Pressure issue.
I had the same problem. Pressure was building in coolant system when was climbing hills. Expansion tank cracked, hoses blowed ... The problem was: my 7th injector cracked from bottom where exhaust gases got pumped into the coolant system. Normally these problems comes from EGR coller, 7th injector, Turbocharger itself, injector cups and the last which is very rare is head gasket.
So what is the solution for pressure in the coolant system? I swapped the head and like 3 tanks and it is still doing it. My emissions are deleted. Could it still be the 7th injector?
Thank you, woke up in WY with my truck beeping loud, (Low Antifreeze level) msg on dash, I filled it up MAX and after one hour of driving error msgs again and very low Antifreeze, going to try this method
you can also check the air compressor head gasket because when it leaks air will goes to your cooling system and it will push coolant out of your reservoir and it can also cuase overheat
I have a 2023 volvo, but mine isn't using coolant not sure whats going, motor isn't acting weird no leaks anywhere. I use to put coolant in it every other day buts it's been almost two weeks since I had to put any in it. Last time that happened I was in a Freightliner and it started coming inside the cab of the truck, but it was leaking
Hey i have the same problem. I replaced the compressor, my egr cooler is deleted, i took the head out i had 1 cup leaking so I replaced them all, placed everything back and i still have the same problem. Anyone can help please?
If it's burns to much coolant without leaking, probably you have an issue with EGR cooler, if you add more then a gallon a week, then it's first signal to check that.
I have a Volvo 2011 with d13 motor and I have exactly the same problem since 2016 just leave the coolant at low and don’t tighten the cap all the way don’t worry it won’t get any worse
Couple days ago while driving my hoses blowed out from that extra pressure and today I changed the hoses and replaced the water with new antifreeze but I'm king of afraid that will happen again. I will definitely try this before I hit the road tomorrow. Thank you!

Hello, were you able to solve the problem, the same thing happens to me and I don't know what to do, I already changed the injector cups and the same problem continues
+us18wst, Since this is known as an "expansion overflow tank", that's exactly what it does. However, when these get as yellowed out as yours is, the plastic becomes very brittle. What this means I that, as it heats up, even miniscule cracks will "expand", & not be able to hold adequate pressure. I'm not sure about the cap. But, it should have a pop-up relief valve built into it. I know people don't want to pay OEM retail prices. However, genuine Volvo parts will last a very long time. So, your best bet is to replace both the overflow tank, along with the cap.

I hope I’m having the same issue. I had my radiator and water pump replaced at Volvo last week. When idling for over 2 days, Volvo is fine. Coolant level stays at the max line. However, when I’ve been driving for a couple of hours or about 100 miles, I notice the coolant level has dropped to minimum line when truck has stopped or maybe even when I turn truck off and return the next morning. Please help!!!!
That hose you are speaking is not for pressure releasing, if yes, than why to turn the cap ... I have the same problem, in 5 days, from maximum level do under minium, dealer told me something about EGR problem, maybe
becuase the air compressor is liquid cooled the air can leak and it mix to the cooling system i have the same problem days ago since i dont have the compressor head gasket i end up re-route the cooling lines of the air compressor so the bubbles will go straight to the coolant reservoir.
OMG, pressure test the cap. The seal is not sealing the cap. You can see all the dried coolant on the surge tank. He didn’t fix anything on that truck.

I went in to same problems last week. 880000 miles D13. Drove on interstate with just 13000lbs load, pushed brake pedal just a lil and my upper coolant hose blown... Shortened that hose and fixed problem on the road in 15 minutes. Used 2 gallons of water to reach Minimum coolant level. Drove next 300 miles without problems(half open reservoir cup, engine brake off, not pushing to the limits engine). Today bought new coolant hose but have suspicious that problem is deeper. Probably with injectors. Cause everybody long time ago said me +/-900000 mi for D13 engine and you'll be in troubles with injectors: prepare for replace . Maybe this is it guys..

you can drill a hole on the reservoir cap 4 mm , put coolant to min, it will never go out and work flawlessly
