I've been a hairstylist for 20 years... The upscale salon sold you the smoke and mirrors on a mediocre trim. It's all about the illusion of luxury. The first barber delivered what you asked him for, and did it super well without having to upsell you a ton of tricks and fluff.

Theres 2 points to this.
1. The first guy was a barber, the second guy was a hairdresser/stylist. Generalising, a hairdresser will be much better at giving that softer finish as they are primarly tought to deal with longer hair, using scissors and create rounder shapes. A barber is taught how to give you a sharp finish and create more square shapes.
2. The reason you were so happy with the second haircut is because the stylist cut your hair the way they thought you suited it. A barber knows way more about your hair than you do, so give them the respecr youd give a stylist. Ask them what they think, and a good barber will always give you the best trim for you.
Jose you sold out. Your second haircut is literally a meme, could be captioned "clown paid 150 for a 'fade. '" Put some respect on the first barber's ability to actually do what you asked him for.

Actually the guy did listen, he asked him what he wanted, Jose told him what he normally gets. The Hair stylist then said he would like to try something different on him that he believed would look great, Jose said ok and the man went to work.
You even heard Jose say how he's used to having to tell the barber what he wants, this is the first time told him what would look great and he appreciated it.

Most salon guys don't know how to give proper cuts. They went to beauty school rather than a barber school/apprenticeship. So they spent like a few weeks learning to fade, and hope they never have to give a proper skin fade ever again. Most people think that "doing" a fade with only scissors is suppose to be impressive, but it's not, clipper were made for a reason. Whenever most salon guys do scissor fades, you can always see some kind of inconsistencies and lines all over the fade. But if people are dumb enough to overpay for an experience, then let them keep getting hustled. Real people will always know where to get a decent haircut, the run down looking barbershop that have experience cutting hair day in and day out.

If you do see a barber option at a cosmetology school, they're probably not really good barbers, or just do barber teaching without ever really cutting hair like barbers do for a living. Either way, it always best just to get to someone with a lot of experience.

NEVER go to a salon asking for a fade unless you're sure they know how to do it. Just go to a barbershop, they're cheaper and better at that kind of haircuts.
Salon works to maintain and get your hair at the best possible state. Its a place where you'd normally go if you have a mid to long hair length.
Barbers, on the other hand, works more to cut shorter and do fades using clippers, but the majority of the time you won't get exactly the length that you asked for if you are looking for a mid-long hairstyle.

He blended the top with point cutting and texturizing it smh shape is more important than a fade. Everyone can fade not everyone can cut with shears like him. Shape > Fade
@@fernandogiftedhands9055 While I agree that he blended the hair on the crown and apex with the hair on the parietal ridge using standard shear cutting techniques, his fade was not very well blended. Age-old debate, but no not everyone can do a fade. Go to Supercuts and Sports Clips (or most other chain salons) if you want proof.
And to your shape is greater than fade argument-a great barber should be able to do both proficiently. Not make a client choose one over the other.
I’m going to disagree. His blending, especially considering he used no machine, was superb. His scissorwork is top notch. The fade however- nearly non existent. It was a light taper that will return next week. You’re paying for mostly the treatment and the massage, not the fade unfortunately.
