@@ngerstner753 I would generally agree. But she isn't feeding them. Isn't trying to make lap pets out of them. And it appears she lives in a rural part of the country. When you live in bear country, you find ways to cohabitate with nature, and she didn't seem to push herself on the bears. So, I think this is a little bit of an exception. Just my observation.

My mama cats appointed me as nanny when they needed a break, its such a heartwarming and cathartic experience to have that level of trust from an animal. I have no other words how to phrase it.

This is not beautiful or respectful, but instead will cost these bears their life. She is being irresponsible by feeding them, and they will have to be destroyed because they now associate humans with food. If you are lonely adopt a rescue cat, but allow wildlife to remain "WILD".

Being trusted near a bears cubs is amazing in itself. Multiple mothers leaving their cubs unattended with you is nothing shy of a miracle. This woman is blessed.

it's a miracle because she's not disclosing the fact that she's feeding them. she's inadvertently killing them and setting up these habituated bears for death because once they learn to associate humans with food they are more likely to approach towns, hikers, etc. and be shot.

Habituated bears will leave their cubs in the presence of people because they know that the more dominant male bears avoid humans at all costs.
Dominant males won’t try to snatch and eat the cubs if there’s a human present.
It’s NOT a miracle, it’s basic bear 101 and this woman is asking for trouble.

Respect is the last word to describe this as she is illegally feeding these bears, and the activity puts her, other people and the bears in danger. Make no mistake, feeding them like she is will at some point force wildlife officials to kill them per the danger they pose to people. So the keyword is "irresponsible", "cruel", or more accurately "ignorant" since she has been charged and convicted of feeding them and other actions against them for years. Just search court records for Susan Kehoe and you will see...

@@t16205 I didn't see anything about her feeding them at all. It seemed to start when she pulled a plastic bottle off a cub's head. The cub visited w/ mother and siblings later and came to her porch. That's in another short I saw before this. Never anything about feeding them. Can you imagine trying to feed that many bears?

I’m glad she acknowledged that, even if she feels safe 99% of the time, it only takes one bear having a bad day to turn this into a very different kind of news story.
So basically same with humans. Just in the news how one guy, having a bad day, shot 18 people dead. At some point you realize, you cant avoid every risk in your life. You just have to learn which risks are acceptable and which are not.

That is a recipe for disaster that will with out a doubt get some of these bears killed. If she really gave a damn about them, she would be lobbying for her local government to create wildlife corridors in which bears like these have an abundant food source without having to have stressful encounters with humans.

It's not wonderful! She's teaching them it's ok to be way to close to humans. We already know that's more dangerous for the bears and the humans because it's only a matter of time until something goes wrong. If you like bears, teach them to be SCARED of humans, that way they keep their distance, and no one has to die! She's being extremely selfish, risking everyone and the bears for her own personal satisfaction.

I think we have different definitions of "respect, harmony and hope". The bears will certainly disagree since her actions of feeding them will likely end in some, or all of these bears to be destroyed. You simply lack education, but she is fully aware her actions will prove to harm them, yet she still feeds them out of her selfish needs.

The Siberian people, for which the Iroquoian branched tribes (and inuit/Canadian/Alaskan tribes) come from, also celebrate the bear. They use a pelt to dance outside for the hope it causes rain and good fortune to come (the Siberian Indigenous I mean, but also here in the Americas either for good fortune or good harvest to come (which depends on rain anyways so same message and use).
They even still celebrate the bear festival in Siberia. Also the reason the Americas have Caribou, they are the evolutionary cousin to the reindeer, that the Siberian Indigenous peoples brought with them. They are known as the Reindeer People for this reason. The only people in human history to be able to domesticate reindeer, however they domesticate reindeer by picking the right ones out of their herd who will become sled pullers or even to become a type of spirit animal partner and guide. So, not true domestication but also still yes, they domesticated the reindeer? It is phenomenon not seen anywhere else in the world.
Even the Pacific Northwest tribes of Washington/Vancouver area of Canada, use the bear pelt and dance just like they have done in Siberia. We have held this tradition for so long, it is a main piller to show our passed down story telling is a historical record, not just made up stories. Anthropologists are finally realizing how great our passed down knowledge is, they are finally allowing us to tell our story and they actually use it in conjunction with fossil finds and other ancient finds.

Bears are wonderful animals, but they are predators. As such, no one should ever feed them lest one becomes associated with said food and eventually becomes food.
@juliej5917 Right. That is very unwise to do. Wild animals who are fed by humans look upon that human as a major food source and more importantly as someone to care for and play with it. That is why people are killed because the bear gets angry at not being fed or played with as is expected and the human does not know how to properly be around the bear. At some bear/wildlife sanctuaries, playing with bears works well and is safe for the caregivers because they are doing what the bears expect them to do and the humans know their limitations in being around the wildlife they care for and the wildlife are expected to follow certain boundaries, limitations set for them.
It is very dangerous as they can be unpredictable. She is wise in that she never feeds them and they don't associate her with the provision of food and that she never instudes into their space. I live where bears are in the summer and always on the watch. I don't live in fear, however I have an awesome respect for their size, and speed that they can travel when motivated.

This woman is dealing with smaller black bears. Their temperament is slightly different kinda like alligators and crocodiles. Crocs tend to be more aggressive as are Grizzlies. She also isn't intruding on their space, they're approaching her with ease and trust. Big difference.

A woman did this near my hunting club for years in North Carolina. She fed the bears, every one knew it. As far as I know the game commission did nothing to stop it, regardless of the bears finally ate her. No one knows why? Columbia North Carolina. I believe it was 2015 not sure
I do not know how long this incredible woman has lived there, but if it has been a few years it makes sense that some (or all) of the mama bears bringing their cubs over, do so because *they* were brought over when they were cubs themselves, and the knowledge of safety is now a thing passed down from generation to generation...and that is a wondrous thing in and of itself.
Yes, probably a human would take her kids to her parents house to show. May be these bears bring thier Cubs to this woman so Cubs can see thier grandma. And grow similarly how momma bear grow knowing the human mom. I bet they want such relationship even though they're wild. Isnt it fascinating. ❤❤❤
Its the same with almost all animals if you live on the same property long enough, I got squirrels running up to me in the yard to beg for nuts and birds that follow me around the yard and if I stay still long enough they will land on me. Its the same with deer or even moose if you live that far north. Right now Im working on trying to pet my resident woodchuck lol. I live in the middle of town but have a half an acre lot.

These mother bears must have a strong instinctive sense that this woman is trustworthy. She's not luring the bears, feeding them, or trying to make them "pets". She's simply giving them a safe zone & providing babysitting services while Mama hunts. A Beautiful arrangement.

As opposed to all the "untrustworthy" people who have been killed by black bears? We hear about these women on the news quite often. It's sort of sad. They're lonely, they start feeding predators, next thing you know she's another statistic.
Bro, black bears aren't hypercarnivores like big cats or wolves. What hunting are you talking about? They are omnivores that mostly forage and their diet is much more closer to herbivores than carnivores. Not saying that they don't posses any threat ofc, they definitely do especially if you are not smart like this woman in the video but that threat that they posses is mostly their self/cubs defence or teritorial mechanisms.

A Black bear is a wild and dangerous animal, and simply because it has cooperated with you regarding several or even prolonged interactions, does not mean the bear has changed. A black bear will eat a human being on a whim, regardless of the history of the relationship.

I grew up in the country no bear's,but I found a little dog in the woods turned out to be a fox we called her cha cha, also raccoon's who got a bottle everyday,an once a wolf who needed help my father an I nursed the wolf then he was gone, dad said wolf was a wild animal and needed to go back to the woods, I'm so thankful I had a father who taught me love an respect for all living souls.

A Mama Bear does not play with people being near her cubs....this is an extreme honor they have given this lady and a gift from God never to be spoiled or taken for granted.

Actually it is not a trait of Black bears to defend their cubs. They usually run away and let their cubs climb trees to defend themselves.They will return after the "danger"has past. On the other hand grizzlies evolved on the Praire where there are no trees and found it necessary to defend their cubs agressivly. The fact that the cubs themselves are not running away is because they have lost their fear of her by a process scientists call desensitization . It consists of being exposed to a condition stimiulos without being paired with an unconditioned stimulus. Inother words seeing a human who's not shooting at you, throwing something at you or yelling at you. Check out the dozens of other videos of folks who get visiting bears that they've desensitized.

Tigers live with people in India and rarely attack people. Of course when it happens it is very tragic but when you consider that they are around people all the time, it is remarkable that attacks more often. These tiger reserves do not have fences keeping the tigers in.
The Indian Wildlife agency have put monitors on some of these wild tigers and they were shocked to see them roaming thru villages transversing hundreds of miles looking for a mate as they are so few of them, and with decreasing habitat.
Yet people seldom see them.
They had a documentary of one male, given the name Broken Tail, as his tail was slightly deformed. A few villagers remember seeing him from the time he was born. A couple of women collecting firewood in his habitat suddenly came upon him, he was quietly hiding trying to stay out of view. He snared at them and walked away. The villagers began to really like him because even though he was fully grown, he always walked away when they met up. They put a monitor on him, and found out he traveled through some of the most populated areas where people lived. The villagers were terribly sad one day when they found his carcass. He had been hit by a train and died near the tracts. It was surprisingly to see these villagers get so emotional about his death. He was 'their tiger'. Normally the Indian wildlife officers are supposed to always collect their remains but made an exception as the villagers wanted to give their tiger a proper burial with full honors.

It's a very beautiful story. I hope she doesn't underestimate the fact that these are wild animals and regardless how much she feels that they have responded to her that she has to be extremely careful because you never know with wild Apex predators.

I would never do what she's doing or approach a bear and neither should people, but if they trust her with their cubs, then that is at a different level. That is usually the one way you get a black bears to attack is by getting close to her Cubs.

I think somehow she conveys a benign aura to the bears and they can read it. But they respect her. I like the way she still remains wary of them though and concludes she can't step over the mark because in the end, they are wild animals
The fact that that bears brought their cubs to her home was meaningful in and of itself: they trusted her implicitly. The fact that they left their cubs at her home for her to babysit them while they were out foraging for food (and not trying to steal human food) brings the trust here to a whole other level. One thing's for sure: neither human or bears were going to let anything happen to any of them!

Well there was one...he never had any incidents either. For 20 years I think. Then one day without warning he was torn apart and killed by the bears he spent decades with as family.

From all the documentaries and movies we see on bears we learn that they, like all mothers, are incredibly protective of their young ones and for these bears to even leave their cubs in the company of this woman means they trust her completely. She must be a really gentle and good soul…..
Those cubs were never out of the mothers sight, don't think that for a second.
Additionally it sounds like she sets firm boundaries with the bears. They are not allowed inside her home

What an amazing experience. There's actually been a recent revelation that mother bears will sit near wildlife photographers in the wild because they know that the male bears won't come near humans if they smell the scent, so the mothers are relatively comfortable around the photographers knowing they're safe from the males that would kill their cubs. I imagine this is a similar situation.
That's scary because I can see scum hunters posing as photographers to get close kills.
@ASMRyouVEGANyet? in this instance I believe the photographers have been visiting the same grounds over a long period of time so there'd a pseudo-trust between the mother and the photographers, I'm not sure it happens in every instance.

@@thenewdawn9963 Bears don't pair for life, both male & female (without cubs) live solitary lives. When the female gives birth to cubs they'll be raised up to a certain age until which point they're abandoned regardless of gender.
I know and understand that. I didn’t imply they were paired. Most Females of any species don’t want anything to do with the male. But (supposedly) males are on the property here, where Females also are, and males are hostile towards cubs, you said that. So, I was curious if you think this contradicts your theory or revelation about Females seeking out humans for protection.

I hope she looks at other TH-camrs who are known to be doing what is right towards the bears that visit them so she can learn from what they do about an aggressive bear. Someone else I subscribe to runs off aggressive bears. He also sets rules and boundaries for the bears that visit him.

One thing is to be particularly aware as hibernation starts happening. Bears who haven't successfully fattened themselves start eating things they normally wouldn't (Timothy Treadwell was probably killed by this kind of bear).

In one way it’s really cool that this lady and her bears are able to co exist so close. Only time will tell.
We were camping in the mountains and a ranger stopped by to make sure we did not feed the bears in the campsite. The ranger does not want the bear population to think that they will get food from humans. He pointed out that a bear who is hungry may not even be aggressive but they are so big and strong that they can crush people trying to get to the food. Then unfortunately the rangers have to kill the bear. i hope that this lady can continue her loving friendship wihout any misunderstandings...I can't believe the amount of situations I have seen where people and animals clash when everyone has good intentions, they just don't understand how to behave around each other so nobody gets hurt.🐻🐻❄🐼

Animals don't have some inner ability to sense if a person is kind. If they did, these bears would never get within sight of her home. Instead, they can interpret if you are fearful or stressed as your body emits a different odor, and they pay attention to body language. Regardless, the only reason they approach her and hang around in the manner they are is because she feeds them and has been doing so a long time, even years... What makes her a bad person, is she knows that feeding bears will almost always lead to the need to kill them, yet she still does it...

My sister had a similar relationship with bears. She passed away two years ago from cancer and she was ill for many many years. I think the bears and her had some kind of special relationship. People would tell her things were going to go bad but they never did. She would send me pictures of the mother bear and her cubs handing out in her yard. I think they just knew my sister would never harm them or allow anyone else to harm them. I miss her.

@Pat Luxor Tim Treadwell was tragically delusional. He projected his own narrative onto those bears, and forced his presence on them. This situation is an entirely different scenario. The bears come to this lady, who is not delusion, and respects the bears' space. If they are desperately hungry, she will be at risk. But she knows this.
