Nice reaction lads! I'll leave the future Chisel recommendations to others, as I see all the songs represented below in the comments anyway!
However, I will say if you're interested in them, I've always considered this song 'Khe Sanh' to be part of the 'holy trinity' of Australian returned servicemen songs, (I'm one myself), alongside :
Eric Bogle's "The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" & Redgum's "I Was Only 19 (A Walk In The Light Green)"
Khe Sanh speaks particularly to the wanderlust of many veterans who returned frequently to south east asia after the war, and the struggle for acceptance and being able to put down roots again. Bogle's (A Scots born Australian) piece is a classic folk song of protest, which depicts the experience of an unnamed soldier of World War 1 whom returns maimed from the war, while Redgum's speaks particularly of the PTSD and trauma, and the mental scars, with a memorable chorus that references triggering experiences at home, that result in anxiety, fear and ill health.
All three songs are staples amongst the veterans community here, less so with my generation (Iraq/East Timor/Afghanistan), but in particular with my fathers and grandfathers, who served in Vietnam and WW2 respectively.
Keep the reacts coming! All the best!

Cold Chisel one of the Best Aussie Bands of all time. These blokes are all getting close to there 70’s now. Seen them 2 years ago doing theBloodMoon tour. Still go hard and put in 110% into their concerts. Don Walker on the Key boards would be one of Australia’s best if not the best song writer of all time. Ian Moss one of the Best Aussie guitarist, Phill Small Bass and Steve Prestwich on drums sadly passed away some years back.
Bow River, Choir Girl, For Ever Now, Flame Trees, Saturday Night just to name a few of there songs.
Check them out you won’t be disappointed

Correct, the lyrics in this song are sublime. It's been one of my favourite songs since i first heard back in the 70's. Another of their songs with great lyrics (written by the same guy I think) is Cheap Wine. One line from it is stellar: 'I had a friend, I heard she died; on the needle she was crucified'.

fantastic song the lyrics tell the story of Vietnam veterans better than anything I have ever heard, I have seen many comments from Vietnam vets from every country who love this song, Cold Chisel have so many great songs, the album East is a high point, Jimmy Barnes of course is a great vocalist, seeing them live was a wonderful experience.

thank you so much Thamesmen, I should have expanded on my comment and said that the lyrics specifically target the terrible welcome home that Vietnam veterans received and how "misplaced" they felt back in their own country, the lyrics to Khe Sahn are some of the best and most deeply touching I have come across.

Plenty of great Chisel's songs out there: Flame Trees, Saturday Night, Breakfast at Sweethearts, When the War is Over, Bow River etc. Many of the Chisel's songs reflect on life in Oz in that era and some provide commentary on some of the issues that still exist for some even now, such as our Vietnam vets that are still struggling with life after so many years.
Jimmy is still kicking around and so is Ian Moss.
As you mentioned, it's sad that many of this music never went global but the power of TH-cam seems to be changing that as my suggestions are now filling up with people from all over reacting to Aussie music and loving it. Sadly, many of these great bands and artists have either broken up, passed away or lost key band members, so there is no chance to get in on a live show again.
There were a few lucky bands to have hit it globally.. AC/DC, INXS etc but for many, the domestic market was as imaginative as the record labels were at the time.
Cheers for the reaction vid 🙂
