I can't understand why Russia would push for Kharkov when odessa port would be an actual jewel. Before other troops come into the country I'd personally push for this before any other target.

imagine having to be deployed in a trench. And then wait for the bombs, artilery shells, tos, fabs and drones to arrive, the purpose of yhour life is reduced to slowing down the enemy for an hour or two cause zelenski tells you to not retreat or you'll be shot by the anti retreat forces.

@@rilmehakonen9688 i think this was happening way too often in 2022, when there was the fog of war and it was nothing resembling a war. today the maps and lines are drawn, so no field is left unchecked, the russians are systermatically clearing every meter.
The Russians were able to overwhelm Avdeevka, which was once considered impenetrable, in a very short period of time. I'm sure they'll be able to deal with a singe tree-line of fortifications, when the time comes.

I think you live in another time frame. It took a long time and it costed an enormous amount of Russian lives and military hardware.
Mariupol and Backmuth were also ultra-fortified, in fact they were, but no longer.

Showing nato the true meaning of game changer
Sheets of metal are effective in reducing the ability of drones to penetrative weak top armour (true of ALL tanks). Why not simply build the equivalentbof the Chernobyl containment unit on top of one? It's a bit like having your tank moving around in an armoured garage. Can they be destroyed? Yes. Does it take more drones, more effort, more time, when those resources would otherwise be used elsewhere? Yes again. I'd consider making the turtle tank into a remote-controlled unit, drawing fire which would otherwise be harassing other units.

What we have is the following statements: the SMO will take 30 months that is until September 2024.
De-Nazification and De-Militarization are the key objectives and NATO security guarantees for Russia.
None of what you said changes the fact that the fortifications the ukranians built there are going to be difficult to take. The trenches are in the middle of completely open fields for kms.
Yes it can be bombed and struck with artillery but eventually the Russians will have to clear those trenches meaning they will have to cross those open fields under artillery and fpv drone fire.
Yes the Russians will defeat the fortifications but they will undoubtably take losses doing it.
Now imagine they build forts like this every 10kms. If they managed to build it in a week that is quite possible to do. It just means that it will slow Russia down and inflict casualties. (Of course it’s a death sentence for any ukranians posted to those fortifications but since when has Ukraine cared about that)

Their chain of command may be ideologically motivated corrupt morons but the smaller units have fought well considering their commanders and the fact that Russia is now the best trained and seasoned army in the world. Apparently, russian forces have already begun their Kharkov Offensive according to multiple reports from both sides.

According to *russian sources,* they have already captured 5-6 villages and are just 40-35km from Kharkov, but the main forces aren't in combat yet.
On the other hand, Ukraine claims they have successfully repelled the russian offensive in Kharkov. However, they don't have evidence to support such a thing.
There's geolocated footage of russian forces beyond the village of Pilnaya and on their way to enter Oleynikovo. So we can make a conclusion that what Ukraine claims isn't entirely true.
Later on, the governor of the region said these 5-6 villages are in the grey zone.

The thermobaric and blast wave nature of this heavy of a bomb would surely go a long way to clearing/subdueing these fortifications in short order. The Russians have been chewing their way through eight years of the building of the (NATO) fortifications all along the line of combat, these newer fortifications surely can't be nearly as strong and well built.

There is a lot of talk about "soldiers digging in". My question is how can such protect against thermobaric weapons Russians are using? Seems soldiers would have to be provided with air tanks and be aware enough to have them on prior to any attack. Highly doubt that is practical.
