    A nice effect when using tungsten film is putting the gel on the flash and then taking portraits. Only the "victim" will come out the correct colour and the background will have the bluish tint. It's very nice.

    Back in the 80's I used to purchase out dated movie film in 35mm canisters. I could shoot it from 100asa to 3200asa. All I had to do it tell the lab what the asa was that I was shooting.. Made good prints.. Cheaper than Kodacolor film.

    So, to start I am very grateful to have found this video because I have roughly 150+ft of Vision3 500T in my fridge that I am dying to shoot, but haven't found an effective enough way to remove the remjet.
    I see here that you found a removal agent online that I am excited to try, but before I do I have to ask; were you able to get acceptable results developing rolls in the same c41 chemicals after using the removal agent?
    I've managed to get a (seemingly) similar amount of remjet off before development using only washing soda. However when I used the chemicals a second time they yielded virtually blank negatives.
    I was considering using the washing soda and a red safe-light to remove the remjet outside of the developing tank, then re-spooling and developing, which might be a more cost effective in the long run... just thinking out loud there...
    I would love to hear about, or even see, negatives you developed subsequently in the same chems.
    Just found your channel tonight and quite enjoying it,
    Thanks n_n

    The first time I watched the movie Girl with a Pearl Earring, when I got to the scene where she is standing next to the studio window holding it open with her hand, I had to stop it and look close on my big screen. The highlights had a warmth to them, the shadows an ever so subtle coolness. I spent the next month in my studio trying to reproduce that with yellow and blue gels, blue reflectors, to no avail so gave up. Recently, when I got to the scene with Sharon Tate sitting on her bed in Once upon a time in hollywood, the same thing happened, the skin tones on her leg were mind blowing. And that wouldn't be make up. The hbo series The Pacific, the scene where the father determines his son doesn't have a heart murmur and can go off to war, again mind blowing skin tones. Every one vision 3. I just picked up a 35 mm camera that will shoot all my modern lenses and has 8 frames per second and 1/8000 so I can shoot this film like I was shooting digital. I will try the filter. 6 years after you put this out, there is a kit for developing this film that more easily addresses the remjet and is specifically for his type of film.

  • @billpickle2875

    Glad you made this video... ive been thinking about trying this film for ages. Worried about the processing though as last time i tried the chems went bad quickly and i got some crazy colour shifts. The fish tank heaters seem like a good shout. Could you tell me what wattage heaters you bought? Amazing results.

  • @Asgaia
    @Asgaia 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The bluish shadow and yellow lights are mostly due to your cross processing and that also on 30°C.
    When you develop ECN-2 there is no such color cast. I tried C41@100°F and and RA-4 (4+1)@41.1°C. But I think that ECN-2 give optimal results. C41 is desaturated, RA4 gives great skin tones, but tends to be magentaish in the blues.

    • @edpavez
      @edpavez  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah. It had nothing to do with development of cross processing. It was the scanner. Check out my Kodak Vision3 500T review.

  • @AlfredoRoccia
    @AlfredoRoccia 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Eduardo! Nice video. Well, you said colours were very good straight from the scanning process, but did you scan the negative or the printed film? I mean, when one usually scans, he can get two different kind of pictures: a raw scan (where colours are not processed by the scanner and require post-production to remove blue/orange masks, at least) and pictures processed by the scanner (where the scanner usually works for you). So I'm curious now, how did you get the colours you wanted without post-processing? Thanks a lot! :)

    Great video. I have been shooting with Vision3 for a few months now (250D and 500T) also with the XPAN and a few other cameras and it has produced some stunning results. I was hesitant to invest in the bulk stock at first and found out that the guys over at filmphotographyproject.com sell pre-rolled Vision3 films so I tried a few rolls before jumping in and buying a few hundred feet of it. I highly suggest that route for anyone on the fence about it. Keep the great content coming.

    carbon remjet can be rubbed off prior to stabiliser in warm bath it doesn't mess and dirty your developer up either like you would imagine no need for the removal chemicals and soda imo. This is only the 4th c-41 film I have developed at home in a brutish guestimated temp way and it turned out fine once again I'm beginning to think the -+0.5c preciseness of temperature people are so adamant about is nonsense it seems more like -+5c for digital scan purposes anyway. I would probably be precise if I were chemical printing maybe. There is one thing I would suggest and that is gloves and a respirator when handling photographic chemicals most are proven highly carcinogenic with skin contact and inhalation can really give you bad sinus headaches and sore eyes. An old army s10 respirator is perfect for the job as it has a brilliant filter and full face coverage and cost peanuts compared to other respirators I would put more faith in it too don't be put off by sealed expired filter cannisters they will last 50+ years and in all likelihood you'll never need to replace it once attached to the mask however your beard could pose a problem.

      English is not a problem for me, I had 66m (200ft) WIN-DOWN ed film from frame24ltd, to be be able to insert this film in to bulk loader, i had to take 100ft of this, so i wear my cotton glowes, go to darkroom, i rewind half of it on to plastic from a cassete, and i put original spool with 100ft of film in to buld loader, and other film which is on plastic cassete i put in original box and leave it in fridge. I don't see any scratches, why it would be on film ?

    Nice vid, ED. So you’re using a modified C41 process not ECN2 process? Check out Silbersalz35. They are attempting to make commercially available several Kodak Cinefilms for still cameras and use ECN2 to process. They also develop and create lossless scans for free, but unless you live in the EU, shipping is super expensive. I’d be interested in working out the kinks on how to reverse engineer these very stylized cinefilms for still cameras and do my own ECN2 processing and scanning if that’s not completely insane. The film stock is quite cheap, but I hear the ECN2 chemicals are pretty steep

    Hey man, love your work, totally awesome! Just have a few questions if you don't mind. The reel showed up in the video seemed to be 400ft long and the bulk loader you use (which is quite commonly seen) only holds reels up to 100ft long, how did you manage that? And where did you purchase that reel? I live in Paris but since I'm just an amateur so never figured out which places to go for these stuff. Thanks ever so much!

    • @edpavez
      @edpavez  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I searched online and found a store selling it in here, www.frame24ltd.co.uk/
      Also, I grabbed the 400ft roll and the bulk loader and used my changing bag to respool about 100ft (or what I believe is around 100 ft) inside the bulk loader. it was the most tedious process, and made no sense to film it, but that's what happened. best of luck!

    @haborufan 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I do like your videos, and the shots in this video are very nice indeed. But, if you'll allow me, I'd like to correct some of your factual inaccuracies about movie film...
    The movie film in a film camera will absolutely not catch on fire, no matter how fast it runs. The rem-jet backing has two main purposes: one is as it's conductive it offers protection against electrostatic build up and discharge, that would expose tiny flashes on the film. And two, it serves as an anti-halation backing (very strong lights reflecting back from the film plate of the camera, creating a halo effect around highlights).
    The latter one is not useless for photography as the redish glow around streetlights, and the like on pictures shot on Cinestill films clearly demonstrate. (The reason you don't have these on your shots is that you remove the rem-jet backing after the exposure.)
    Also, (that goes for all Tungsten films), the way the tungsten color balancing is achieved is that the blue sensitive layer is more sensitive than the other two layers. Thus, you actually have more information on your negative, and it's very easy to correct in photoshop, or even in traditional printing. So you don't really need a yellow filter.

    Just shot a roll of the 500t... remjet was no problem. All the negatives came out so thin. Not a single picture was usable. I dunno where i went wrong i followed the instructions and dev times. I then developed a roll of portra 400 the same way and it came out fine. Any one had similar probs?

    Hey man, I think you should shoot some colour film in your next Shoot Film episodes. I mean I love your black and white pictures and truly think you've mastered black and white photography, but to me film photography has always been more than black and white, because film colour is the one that is so hard to reproduce in digital, and really has its own personality. I would love if you shot some Kodak portra/ektar or Fuji film in your next episodes!

    Fantastico video. ¿ Lo unico que no entiendo es el ingrediente washing soda? ¿Qué es? En España y en Polonia nunca lo he visto y parece detergente en polvo, pero tengo mis dudas ya que no hace espuma. Puedes aclararmelo. Unos videos geniales Eduardo sigue asi.

    • @edpavez
      @edpavez  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      What? No. 8 or 16mm can’t be used for pictures. It needs to be 35mm.
