I pray for Universal support for option 7 returning control to the Oglala tribe, at a pace that is acceptable and beneficial for the health and well being of the tribe and Sioux Nation
No more treaties or promises, they need a deed to the land and a government. No more this one government in America. My prayers are with all tribes, prayers to the most high that this will no longer be an injustice. You are a proud indian nation worthy of respect and YOUR LAND, please do not give up. Much healing, Light and Love sent your way. May the Most High bless you...
Out of all the people of the world the native americans are by far the best qualified to manage a park because they have always respected nature and mother earth. They can bring it back, let them do it.
you must be out of your mind! have you seen what other endeavors they have managed!? Crazy Horse still hasn't been completed and its been 60+ years...... and they've had the money to pay for it 10 times over! There are casinos on every corner of South Dakota, even multiple casinos in every reservation.
The tribe still must overcome the prejudice administered by the government, unfortunately for all. The tribe could secure significant legal and professional assistance to present a satisfactory plan of management, if that is what's on the table. Appeal to your own archeologist or anthropologist to present a balanced case against that of the government. Perhaps the government believes it is acting in the interest of the native heritage in its concern over management. Perhaps. But I'll be frank. The job done by the well-meaning agencies of this corporate government has been abysmal, and injurious to the heritage of the area. To stop that injury is a management decision. To not stop that injury is a management decision. Management here has become governance. It is sovereign tribal land. It should be like all sovereign tribal land under sovereign tribal governance. Peace.
I fully support this. What is the current status? I know the comment period is over (Oct. 19th) but I have re-posted this nonetheless to raise awareness! I know when I was in Australia years ago, I was very glad to see the Aboriginal Anangu people managing Uluru and Kata Tjuta. I know that is a joint management model and feel it is a step ion the right direction. I hope this option 7 will pass as I feel in my heart that on so many levels it would be healing.
Long before I saw this on u-tube; I have held the firm belief that America must in some meaningful way make amends for all the wrongs. This would be a good start. This as well as other national Forests should be returned to native people. Since I was young child playing cowboys and Indians I deeply felt that the Indians we're the good guys and hated the way native people were portrayed on t.v. I only recently discovered that my maternal grandmother was part native American. I am more proud of my native American blood.lol
I am not from that area, but I suggest that the tribe be should be manage the park. The tourist would be able to get work for people that live there and they could take the proceeds to fund their government.
Thing is America has legal ownership of all of the United States. PRR should keep the land they had but if they can not tend to it after a long time then government should take it back. There is something to what the one lady said that it is named what it is for a reason. Let them have their land back.
Why is it important for the tribe to manage the Badlands? Is the national park service mismanaging? Would the park bring significant financial gain for the tribe? Or is it just cultural? A matter of principal?
+RealTakerslady Yes they are miss managing it and every other one. It is illegal for the Government to own any land but the ten square miles of Washington, DC Port and Forts and land necessary for the running of the government, like the post office or social security office. And is was at the agreement of the state at will and must be paid for. None of which was done. I live in Nevada and they have taken 90 of my state. They have done the same thing to the Indians in Oregon on Mueller National Monument. And they are now trying in Arizona with another Presidents order.
Everywhere the BLM manages anything near the National Monuments they are destroying all the ranchers and imprisoning them. Look it up on youtube. Just type in BLM and Fish and Game. They take their water away etc.
RealTakerslady Trump administration now wants to take the national park/s and drill for fossil fuels...this is not Carl g for Mother Earth or the future of America ...
oh, and what I wanted to add, if you think the little bit of land they left you ist too small for independance, think of Vatican State or Switzerland, and both are not poor !!!
We are a "Dependent Sovereign" under the US Constitution, and Wards of the US Federal Government. The US Fed cannot even uphold their own Constitutional Primacy Clause regarding us, just how far do you think we have gotten with even making it legal on Rez to grow Hemp? (which grows feral anyway...) The US Fed wants to keep us dependent. Why do you think we were slapped with a boilerplate Tribal Constitution template.....forced upon us...
I m looking for a National Forest. Reservation that is located in coosa county my grandfathers people were buried in. Quincy. Cemetary on what was once called. Red line road He'd. People were. Blackmon. And His. Wife's. People were. Blankenships I have been their before it is now a private hunting club you cannot go to my ancestors graveyards by car or truck you have to walk in on foot I'm a disabled nurse I think I should have the right to go in my truck or car and visit the graveyard of my ancestors and I should be able to go to the National Forest. Reservation
human being, a universal term for people. originated by the original indigenous peoples they called red savages or dirty injuns. there discussing, one tiny bit of what is now america, forgetting, that all of it was theirs originally. and two thirds of them, were eliminated not by war, but by deliberate, germ warfare. smallpox
arizaliit, The “level of mixture” does not matter. Until you yourself see something you value getting ready to be controlled by an entity/ someone you prefer it to NOT be controlled by (i.e. something that’s important to your heritage and to your future progress as a person among your peers), you need to keep your belittling mouth shut up and stop criticizing. Wait for the day when you will feel that something special to you, looks like it could be withheld from your care and management. Then you will get it. But in the mean time, find something to live for besides bringing down the values and opinions of other people that are expressed peacefully and respectfully.
as a pagan from the usa ur land i hope this hapans that becuse i love yr ppl one thing bother me are the wildlife pks and zoo stay that wayi can see theam. 4 me im a wildlife breeder of europe /russia/and iceland[ ps the true white ppl are the pagans and wildlife ppl .i hope u git yr land back son.
Ultimately the land should be managed & preserved by the Oglala Lakota nation.
I pray for Universal support for option 7 returning control to the Oglala tribe, at a pace that is acceptable and beneficial for the health and well being of the tribe and Sioux Nation

Dear Relative, Sister Pilamaye For Your Kindness 🦋
I almost cried watching this video. The Lakota people deserve what is truly theirs, it's about damn time the government gives it to them.
Give them the land back.

it's crazy that the US doesn't recognize the sovereignty of the tribes over the land.
Government has a nasty habit of oppressing those with less power.
Where are the men talking????????????????????

i understand now but why do we need to keep as a park? why? what for?
I was wondering this, too. I'm thinking, as a park, it gives you an income/funding. And you have to admit, that could help you.

il est temps que le gouvernement donne du less et laisse les peuple natifs le droit de gérer leurs espaces.
