Every time I see your videos it reminds me of when we had dairy farms around here. Now it is all disgusting developments. Imagine how simple it was to have pastured cattle year round, rarely had to use hay. No freezing weather to deal with either. Same attitude cows though

Yeah I'm not a fan of big farms, cattle should be treated more like pets than numbers. My ai tech gets the lineback semen for me, I think it comes from triple hill sires. Thanks for watching 👍
I normally don't pre strip them unless it's a fresh cow or something seems off. My somatic cell usually runs around 100 thousand or under, so it seems to work for me. Thanks for watching

I used to work in a dairy in Wisconsin ididnt like many things but i hate when u have to change or switch that milking machine to another place why not to buy more machines you got 15 cows places buy at least 12
I bought a couple of Ayrshire heifers a few years ago. Neither one turned out for me. not sure why, I've always kinda liked Ayrshires. Maybe they weren't fed good when they were small? I might try some again someday if something comes along. Thanks for watching

I grew up on a smaller farm like yours. Milking and hauling manure all the time. I still miss til this day. U all are doing a great job! Thanks for being a farmer! And keep up the good work!
They're a dual purpose breed. I'm also cross breeding with Norwegian red. Sounds like not quite as much milk as pure Holsteins but better components and health. I've only got 3 Norwegian crosses milking right now but I'm happy with them. Thanks for watching 👍

I milked cows for 45 years....never had 1/ 10th the equipment use here ! Milked 50 cows. Never teat dipped....found that leaving the teat ends dry....almost no mastitis ! The more you mess with the teat ends the more troubles you have ! Our counts stayed below 100 thousand most of the year. Never balanced a ration. No protein supplement. Cows ate feed as " desired" and had prime alfalfa ( balage hay ) to eat from round bale feeders.... along with free choice mineral and salt. My problem was getting the cows to eat grain. Might have used 800 bushels of corn per year with the 50 milk cows. Grazed most of the time....dried most of the cows up come late December. Took advantage of the green grass ! Equipment never exceeded 50 thousand dollar....including the 2002 S10 Truck. Never looked at the Butter Fat ....Solids........etc. Goal was volume volume volume ! As I went I learned you cant fight mother nature ! Mother nature wins every time........relating to the equipment need to counter Mother Nature ! Milking during the winter time......is fighting Mother Nature....cost far more ! Each person has their way of farming....what ever works ! Consider first.....working with efficiency and keeping things simple and basic !
I try and keep things simple. Sometimes I wish I would've just stayed around 40 to 50 cows . Small square bales and ear corn. I miss the way farming used to be when I was little. Thanks for watching

In my operation if I changed one little thing....many other things had to change. Example....... I bought a 4x4 ft. round baler. I had a loader that handled the bales with ease. Come winter time..... the rear end of the tractor was too light ... couldnt get around on ice..even with chains. Bought a heavy " I " beam for the three point...Used the I beam to push snow and dirt. Works great ! But change the size of bale...or tractor.. everything much change ! I grew into the operation slowly. My boys often comment...saying I made farming look easy. It is if a person works with things rather then fights. Switched to baleage hay ... built my own bale wrapper 15 years ago....Id never go back to dry hay. Too must waste in the field ! Besides that...in the field and out the same day. Takes the entire risk out of making hay. Going to square bales...... It great if you can find help...but that goes back to the " waste " factor.......constant wheel traffic on the hay field delaying regrowth. I always tried for 5 crops per year. ...and allow a good regrowth before winter time. Bottom line...... some times people make work for them self. Depends on each farmers operation desires and age.

May be better for the back/knees in a parlor, but my Dad installed one in the late 70's and by 2000 his shoulders were worn out. The cows had to go when he was close to 80. Dad's still with us, 90 this year. I only milked in that parlor. I miss it. We're in Walworth County. Thanks for a look at your milking setup. 👍🏻

May be better for the back/knees in a parlor, but my Dad installed one in the late 70's and by 2000 his shoulders were worn out. The cows had to go when he was close to 80. Dad's still with us, 90 this year. I only milked in that parlor. I miss it. We're in Walworth County. Thanks for a look at your milking setup. 👍🏻
