We still love Freddie Mercury; the world continues appreciating the wonder and fantastic results of 1985's Live Aid as Queen's 20 minute concert still entertains, remaining a constant reminder even here in 2024.

if you think about it...a Beatle, three of Led Zep, complete Queen, a fresh U2, a Rolling Stone, Tina Turner, 2 of the Temptations, Hall & Oates (yes! hall AND oates..they're one of the greats), a Wham, Bowie, The Who...Woodstock couldn't even get the Rolling Stones and The Beatles and The Doors t'play. and they were still young and active back in 69. this was just such an enormous and amazing event. I was 16 and watching in a sleeping bag in my Dad's lounge room for 12 hours. All my heroes (British) were playing. But for me it was U2 that completely stole the show, I think that was the day I fell in love with Bono! Yeah I know Queen did the huge stadium rock thing but for me it was U2 that was really heartfelt. The whole event was miraculous, who could do what Geldof did? No sleep for days on end and back seizures by the end...

Considering this is the sixth and final part of a three-hour documentary on Live Aid, it would be odd if they didn't end it with the end of the show itself. Queen played their main set three hours before Paul(although when Paul entered the stage, Freddie and Brian May had just done a bonus song; with them as well having had technical difficulties).
As fond as I may be of Queen, I think it would be nice to have some perspective on who's who here.
For a British band, Queen had done remarkably well in America before Live Aid in 1985, with two of their songs getting to number one in the American charts[Crazy Little Thing Called Love and Another One Bites the Dust]. The guys in Genesis managed the same feat in 1986. (In the 2000s, Adele managed four!)
Paul McCartney would have had nine(9!)...AFTER The Beatles: Uncle Albert(Admiral Halsey), My Love, Band On the Run, Listen To What the Man Said, Silly Love Songs, With a Little Luck, Coming Up, Ebony and Ivory and Say Say Say. (Most of these with Wings)
As he would have had at least a dozen[20 actually] as a member of The Beatles, there shouldn't be ANY question who ranks highest in the pecking order of pop!
      This is just a fact!
And 20 years later, of course, it didn't matter if you were Bono...if Paul McCartney wanted to open AND close the show, who was going to tell him 'No, you can't!'?

Learn to spell. Your illiteracy is offensive . Mercury was spoken about , they even interviewed his band mates and showed clips of the concert. Bob , in the interview , said that they were magnificent
Paul McCartney was a member of THE most important popular music band in the world and certainly out of Britain. It was appropriate that that was discussed . It was also appropriate that it was Pete Townsend and David Bowie , actual 1960s peers , who went onto the stage with him . They lived and survived the 1960s music industry
The point made was , the Show needed credibility and weight to get the attention of the politicians ie the people that can make debt and famines go a way. Getting Macca on stage was a very big deal
Jesus some fanboys and girls really are simpletons .

LIVE AID Just wouldn't work today. There's no truly awesome performers, personalities, musicians or artists that have been allowed onto the stage. There's only fake manufactured celebrities with sterile music they didn't even write in the first place. That's because even music itself has been turned into a business. Real musicians don't do it for profit. They do it because they face torment otherwise. Music is stale now. That's the way it will be unless something drastic happens.

Music was ALWAYS A BUSINESS . Jesus I cringe over ignorant stuff like that
You do realise that before the likes of Bob Dylan and The Beatles, most pop stars of the day sang songs written by others . There use to be offices and buildings dedicated to songwriters who worked in them . That continued in the 1980s with Stock Aitken Waterman. Much of the 1980s music was utter rubbish . Brutal . That includes the material of groups more famous in either the 1960 or 1980s eg Macca, Rolling Stones etc
Read up on people like Burch Bacharach and Elvis’s manager “Colonel Parker” .
No matter the decade, record companies existed to make PROFIT . Bands needed when they were losing money

Bono made a total twat of himself that day , even during his own band’s performance. Yeah, watch the whole performance of that band aid song at the end . He was eying up everyone and making sure that he was in the front . Worse than a school boy

Some of the comments people are making, who gives a crap, this was not a tribute concert for your Freddie, (some people act like he was god..... not)or a contest who performed what, or who or better, this is everyone coming together to raise money for all those starving to death right this very minute, do you not give a shit what this was really all about.

I miss the compassion this world and especially here.
What the feck has gone wrong in his poxy uk? No compassion here at all any more it's all self self bloody self.
If I could bugger off some country that has more compassion. Even though I live in Scotland it's getting like there here to.
Totally we once had 'The Young Ones, spitting Image and other sorts of comedy to show young people you CAN change things!

Benjamin Joseph Kidd-Bentley exactly and now Scotland's minister wants to break up the United Kingdom?
I am American, and I live in England, and I love Scotland, and love Scottish people, I've had so many wonderful holidays and vacations in Scotland and it would break my heart if she broke up the United Kingdom.
I do hope it doesn't happen. She doesn't represent all of Scotland, only some of the people want independence, but most don't. I hope she doesn't get what she wants. 300 years of of United countries, would come to an end.
She's being so selfish. I'm so sorry if that offends any Scottish people common but that's just my considered view.
I am now a naturalized British citizen having lived here since 1987, with a British wife, and British kids, and see myself as a British person. I pray this great country stays together.

Bob is a West Brit and always was . No thanks . I know what you said was 11 years ago and I’d have to ask , what the fuck are you talking about out ? The economy had started to improve by 2013 and 2014 . Bono was in the news back then for the bands taxes being based in the Netherlands . Bono was also like Bob , always talking down about Ireland and trying to be American
