Dodging Malzahar's R with Ahri's R ? League of Legends

this happen recently to me in a game, apparently Ahri's R allowed me to dodge Malzahar's R which is kinda weird...

i don't know, it was pretty suprising that i was able to do that, pure luck.
i think i pressed R at the really same time that Malzha's R triggered , so i was able to dash and dodge it, otherwise i have no clue.
