The Most Feared, Loved, and Respected Referee in The History of Football. when we don’t needed VAR. A wonderful quote from him, and I paraphrase: I'm not there to call fouls, I'm there to facilitate the creativity of the game.
VAR is still needed. It has already shown improvement in the game during the WC and CL. Just because it is used absolutely terribly in Prem, doesn't mean all VAR is bad
Florin Natu nope, I meant annoying. People need to learn to respect referees and their decisions. Whenever Messi or Ronaldo miss a goal nobody asks for them to be replaced, people hardly even bitch about it. Referees are human too and will miss calls sometimes. Fans are just too entitled
I loved him since I saw him. He was a really gentle but authoritarian referee. All referees should be targeting his appearance. Definitely by far the best referee mankind has bring forth.^^
I loved collina because it was so much fun watching him on the green and the fact when ever a player was thinking that he never remember a referee, after a game with collina he definetely remember collina

Well said, he is in a profession where it is common place for all obscenities and disrespect to be dished out from players and fans with ref intimidation at the forefront. He puts on a great war face and calls it with self assurance. The fact so many respect him for his skill and command over the players speaks greater than a Shakespear monalogue of the man.

Mike Dean has done a great job over the years. It's a hard job if you stop and think about it. VAR can be and should be an excellent addition if it's used properly. It will assist referees and take away blaming refs, who do make mistakes and are often " duped" by players who deserve Oscars for than football trophies!. Mike Dean will be the perfect man to liaise and get VAR right like it works in cricket...the umpires in cricket don't take offence and it helps them improve. One comment said " power hungry little Hitler's"...VAR can...and will end that aspect of refereeing. At least we know Mike is a football fan with his vociferous support of Tranmere Rovers!!.lol.
When you have watch Championship referees week in and out THEN you can say how bad EPL referees are! Mike Dean took charge at Birmingham v Leeds last season at St Andrews and the difference in class between him and the dross who take control of EFL games every week was remarkable.
He was brilliant by far the best referee ever, hardly ever got a decision wrong. I remember watching this guy and couldn't believe how he made it look so easy compared to other referees of the world at that time.
I thought reference would be made to Atlanta 96 Football finals between Nigeria and Argentina, which Nigeria won. The winning goal was a classic but somehow controversial goal. Colina's ingenuity to ratify the goal, though unprecedented, improved his resume greatly. He's adjudged the fairest referee on the field of play to date.
I just watched clips of that game and he gave a really easy penalty when Ortega fell for nothing and then again a booking when a sliding tackle hit the ball instead of Ortega who fell. I'm glad there's VAR now for the penalties, although that's not yet working perfectly either. And by the way, it's the assistant referee who flags the offsides, the referee is unable to know if something is an offside or not themselves. In that case, it must have been difficult for the assistant as well, as there were many players standing between him and the players that mattered.
@SF nicboxl I'm talking about the player not the person. Maradona it's called "Mano de Dios" Messi? Great player but, compared to Maradona just Pelé Baggio Gullit can compare
I remember when, in 2005, the football federation made it a huge deal that he was going to retire due to his age, so they extended his activity for one year just to give him the chance to be at the 2006 World Cup. And then a huge Scandal at the beginning of the season happened because he appeared in a commercial for one of AC Milan's sponsors so he retired anyway. On the other hand, at least he retired just before Calciopoli.
As a child growing up watching Football, I would usually asked my brothers and friends at times whose the Referee ? Once it's Collina, u know it's going to be a fair game. Got mad respect for him.

@@ngybrid you dumb? VAR is a good thing. It's just being implemented like shit
this man had a radar behind the neck, he was able to correct also the lines lateral referee about offsides, a real talent
Var is only bad in the PL.
Outside the U.K it's used correctly.
“It’s a long story”
*completes the story in less than 5 minutes*
Collina Sent him off before he could elaborate :P
So, that's his name! I have been looking for videos on this man since 1998 and especially since the 2002 World cup. I hated him for a little while after Brazil beat Germany cos if he wasn't too strict Germany would have won in the finals. But after the match, I found that I missed his strictness cos most other referees seemed scared to make decisions. Legend!
For this, you have earned my subscription. This is information worth its name.
The Most Feared, Loved, and Respected Referee in The History of Football. when we don’t needed VAR. A wonderful quote from him, and I paraphrase:
I'm not there to call fouls, I'm there to facilitate the creativity of the game.
This man is so legendary that even I and after 30 years of watching football he is the only referee who I know his name.
Man I miss this ball guy seeing on TV. Saying hi from Somalia.. He was tough and kind person.
How's the piracy going?
@@Blurrybob Leave him alone 😂
To everyone saying “he didn’t need VAR either” need to realize that it wasn’t referees that were asking for VAR it was annoying spectators
VAR is still needed. It has already shown improvement in the game during the WC and CL. Just because it is used absolutely terribly in Prem, doesn't mean all VAR is bad
you mean "annoyed"
Florin Natu nope, I meant annoying. People need to learn to respect referees and their decisions. Whenever Messi or Ronaldo miss a goal nobody asks for them to be replaced, people hardly even bitch about it. Referees are human too and will miss calls sometimes. Fans are just too entitled
@@Jerryleedlelee why commit mistakes when you can avoid doing so?
Mateo Cossani Im not against VAR I’m just stating a mean reason why VAR was implanted in the first place
I was young when he was a ref but apart from his look, I always remembered him being firm but fair
I loved him since I saw him.
He was a really gentle but authoritarian referee.
All referees should be targeting his appearance.
Definitely by far the best referee mankind has bring forth.^^
Collina is a legend in Turkish people's hearts, cheers from Turkey!
👍👏
I never knew his name but I always recognized him in matches, he was truly an amazing referee!!
Such a charismatic referee. He was a step higher than anyone else. Grande Pierluigi
I always thought this guy looked so intimidating when I was a kid, incredible, didn't know any of this stuff.
Same here! pretty much everything about his look worked to his advantage.
This guy just visited Solomon Islands recently with the FIFA president. Legend himself.
I loved collina because it was so much fun watching him on the green and the fact when ever a player was thinking that he never remember a referee, after a game with collina he definetely remember collina
My dad won the award IIF 3 times, and hi was a good friend with Collina, for a fact
What is ur dads name
He truly is the best of the best!
An absolutely amazing referee!
I met him at an Euro 2004 match. He`s even more scary in person xD
He is someone who is honest and doesnt fuck around, best ref ever.
All we needed was this guy in quarterfinals match Netherlands vs Argentina
Imagine his reaction to the Euro 2020 England vs Denmark penalty
He would get close to Sterling and look deep into his soul. The player would just confess everything wrong he did from age 10 till that day.

Well said!
I think the moral of this story is that it doesn't matter what you do for a living, instead it matters how well you do it. It doesn't matter whether you're a chef, an actor, a builder or a lawyer, if you do it well enough, you will be respected and widely-known.
@@gm2407 very good point
👏🏼👏🏼❤️❤️
The kind of guy you obey without a second of hesitation.
I was 10 years old when he refereed BRAZIL VS GERMANY and was like that super happy looking skeleton face referee man is on TV again! He's got a beautiful smile
For some reason I appreciate the fact that the "please subscribe" message was only shown on screen and not narrated. Not sure why it was noticeable but it was good
There never has been and never will be a finer referee, total legend.
I can with utmost confidence say that to me Colina was n forever will be the best referee in the history of football
Absolutely butchered Matthaus’ pronunciation
Yeh, should be Mat-ay-us lol. Americans ay lol!!

Kevin Otte Me too, took me out of it and made me way too annoyed 😂
We love Collina! greetings from🇹🇷
One of the few videos of this format not begging for likes or subs.. Might just sub and like my guy
he missed an opportunity as a villain in movies.
And then we have Mike Dean.
The best referee ever of course
shit... one of the worst refree in the world.. refree in epl so horrible..
Yeah fucked us (Arsenal) over a penalty last week.
When you have watch Championship referees week in and out THEN you can say how bad EPL referees are! Mike Dean took charge at Birmingham v Leeds last season at St Andrews and the difference in class between him and the dross who take control of EFL games every week was remarkable.
Serie A really misses his perfection
Gustosmundo Juventus does for sure!
@@dizza213 shut up, loser

He was brilliant by far the best referee ever, hardly ever got a decision wrong. I remember watching this guy and couldn't believe how he made it look so easy compared to other referees of the world at that time.
He is the reason the games he refereed were better. He let the games flow, an absolute legend and No.1 ever.
idk man, i could never argue with him, he would just kill me with his menacing stare O.O
I went to an Italian school run by nuns. We got the same menacing stare. Nobody misbehaved... EVER!
Very strict yet very fair referee he will always be the best referee ever
I thought reference would be made to Atlanta 96 Football finals between Nigeria and Argentina, which Nigeria won. The winning goal was a classic but somehow controversial goal. Colina's ingenuity to ratify the goal, though unprecedented, improved his resume greatly. He's adjudged the fairest referee on the field of play to date.
The replays showed that he was right. Amuneke, who scored the goal, was not the one offside and the replays confirmed it.
In that case, it must have been difficult for the assistant as well, as there were many players standing between him and the players that mattered.
what a legend, i hope hes sipping well earned italian beer somewhere in the sun
It's so crazy that I just noticed he doesn't have eyebrows. I've seen him many times was I was a kid.
I almost tapped out at Lothar Matt House and shut it down at KAL-SI-OH-PO-LEE.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Seems like he was Messi among the refferies!
You mean Maradona ;)
No, he was the best, he’s a Ronaldo
@SF nicboxl I'm talking about the player not the person. Maradona it's called "Mano de Dios" Messi? Great player but, compared to Maradona just Pelé Baggio Gullit can compare
@@C0DE_ZER0 Nah! Nobody can be Ronaldo 😁

biggest game of his career
I remember when, in 2005, the football federation made it a huge deal that he was going to retire due to his age, so they extended his activity for one year just to give him the chance to be at the 2006 World Cup.
And then a huge Scandal at the beginning of the season happened because he appeared in a commercial for one of AC Milan's sponsors so he retired anyway.
On the other hand, at least he retired just before Calciopoli.
Sad we can't see him anymore.
As a child growing up watching Football, I would usually asked my brothers and friends at times whose the Referee ? Once it's Collina, u know it's going to be a fair game. Got mad respect for him.
