Influencers are just glorified salesmen. These tactics they use to get you to buy are just as bad as the tactics salesmen use when you go and buy a car, or mattress, or whatever. I don't understand how people give so much trust to people they've never met and will never fully know just because they post pictures of their food and vacations 🙄
The sad thing is that the beauty community online started out as a way for people to actually post their honest thoughts/reviews on makeup etc. but of course once beauty reviews got more popular brands realized how they could use this to their advantage and start sponsoring people. At the end of the day once brands/sponsorships start being involved you don't know who is a sell out and who isn't. I don't fully blame influencers for wanting to take a sponsorship, it is their job at the end of the day, but I wish more of them would actually chose sponsorships on products they genuinely like instead of promoting crappy products.
They only have the careers they present to have. It is kind of like hollywood actors, some truly are wealthy, while the others pretend to be. Influencers are only talked about because they are propped up by SM.
I mean people in marketing, advertising, and sales for cosmetic companies all do the same thing. They are employed by a big brand, they make materials that make their product look like it’s the best thing on earth, convince people to spend money, then celebrate making sales. Influencers are the same thing. Only, instead of being slaves for a company 40 hours a week, they are contracted for short term work that essentially does all of these things. As long as advertising and marketing exists, so will influencers careers.

I’ve seen a couple of influencers that are promoting the Smashbox Photo Finish Foundations Primer. None of them say they are getting sponsored but all of them came out the same day promoting it.
As far as disclosure guidelines, every person involved in the release of a video concerning a sponsorship and the brand used should be held responsible. The influencer could have disclosed properly and the brand could have made that as part of the agreement with them. I say this all the time it’s intentionally being done. Hopefully more people learn to do their own research on products.
The only Beauty Guru I trust is Robert Welsh. He’s not interested in drama and won’t sellout for a sponsorship. If something sucks, he’ll say so. He may give a product a second chance, but he won’t say it’s great for a price point

Imma be for real…a majority of people if they became an influencer and got offered 150-250k to promote a product that’s just meh and don’t fuck with they will still do it.
Here’s a thing if I like a product or I think of products interesting that I see on an influencer thing I’ll look it up and see if it’s good, but I won’t use the code if they bought if I buy
I'm glad he did that, because I'm still disappointed in the first Morphe x Pony palette and I'm still questioning if either I got a bad one, if Pomy got a different one to promote or if she pretended to like the quality even though it was awful.
So yeah, I don't like what James did, but I'm still kind of thankful he confessed to that. Makes me feel less dumb for not being able to make products work, because they most likely weren't any good from the beginning.

@@areswalker5647 it’s obviously an influencer job to influence but it’s also your decision as a person to decide if you want to be influenced by it and spend your money on it. I mean half of the Morphy shit always had testers out anyways so people could’ve easily gone in the stores and tried them out.

while i do agree with all the criticism and I don’t like james… it’s a difference wether you think the composition of colors in the palette look hideous or the quality is bad. if the quality is good but he doesn’t like the color story I guess it’s less of a sellout since he might still be truthful about the quality and usually if you run to buy it because you like what somebody recommended. still not a good look for james but it’s different if the palette’s quality was shitty too
