Fantastic playing, and fantastic guitar. One of the most entertaining and informative videos I've seen in a long time. I have a 1980 Ibanez Artist, and it has a similar vibe. And yeah, the 70's was an awesome decade for music. Keep doing what you're doing, and hi from England
Hi oscar,i wrote an earlier comment that i had your guitar on my wish list and a few week ago i got one. Its in new condition and by now ots one of my favourite guitars. I realy love my custom shop strats and teles but playing my sg 2000 is every time a party. Such a tone and playabillity. And connected to my white mesa mark one ,man thats the tone!
Wanted one for a loooong time. Just found one in a small shop by accident. I stopped to use the bathroom and talk to my friend who is the tech. There was a 1981 SBG 2000 in tobacco burst. They just got it in and didn't even at it up. They asked for $500 cash... Most expensive piss I every took, but I absolutely LOVE THIS GUITAR!! I'm so sad I spent so many years without one. Thanks for the vid
Man,that guitar is at the top of my wish list I play mostly strats, signature, custom made and custom shop and dont want to buy a lp but i have set my mind to the sg 2000. By the way,i,my main amp is a white boogie mk1
Dude you rock! We need more heretics like you out there. BTW - great review on your yamaha sg2000! I'm contemplating the purchase of a sg2100 right now. Keep rocking and evangelizing individuality!
Worked with Phil Hartman and own an SG2000. Who could ask for anything more? I live in Japan and always keep my eyes open for a good SG2000 but no luck yet. Great video and great playing.
I bought the SG 1000, perfect guitar, I also had the same thoughts about the bridge pickup, it doesn't sound piercing, but warm and punchy. Great playing bro!
The Yamaha SG 1500 was manufactured from December 1981 to an unknown month in 1984 for the European market only. Neck: Maple/Mahogany. Fingerboard: Rosewood.
I used to also have the late 1970's SG 2000 as well. It is at times referred to as being a "Les Paul killer" but I would say that it just have a different tone than the LP, especially the SG2000 and the SG3000 which are equipped with a brass sustain block under the bridge. I do regret selling it. One of the best guitars to come out from Japan. You got a nice unique ax, nice playing.
whoa oscar great demo of a great guitar .. the yamaha sg .. i didn't buy 3 of em by accident .. loved the adjectives.. thickery .. i'm gonna use that one .. great playin too .. and yeah they are heavy boogers them yamaha's , i wish that wasn't so .. back in 78 it wasn't such a problem heftin one of em all nite long .. i'm not as young as i used to be tho . ( i still look good .. probably all them drugs i did back then kept me well preserved ) but i don't feel so young anymore .. still love them yamaha sg's tho .. thanks for postin this .. you are quite entertainin .. you should go into show biz .. yup you should ..
Excellent vid - thanks. Dead-on with regards to warm pickup sound.Yes - neck through though Yamaha did make set necks as well. Right around 81/2 our music store salesperson tried to sell me an sg3000 desperately. I've kicked myself for years for not buying it. It was a thing of beauty with all that abalone - not that I'm into that, lol, Dave Meniketti of Y&T, (remember them?),. just got another another black 2000 and is well known for their use now and then. Cheers.
Wow thank you for posting this video, the settings, and skills. I was looking at this guitar for a while but it was out of my reach to try it out. It has a slight hollow sound with an excellent sustain, definitely very warm. I like it. I think I'm gonna get one of those bad boys. Was that pickup original? Thanks, Joe
Killer chops, Oscar! Are you also a singer? Isn't this the model of electric guitar used by Jose Feliciano in the late 90s? I remember seeing concert footage where he used a similar model to this one, if not identical.
@vvblues does the tone differ a lot between the 2000 and 1000? i ask because all my guitars are set necks, except for my first act that i keep for sentimental reasons
Often overlooked about the SG2000 is that it is not a Les Paul wannabe - sure it has many of the LP's signature features but it has a very distinctive sound and I think it was always Yamaha's aim to make a guitar that stood alone with its own character. In late 70s/early 80s when many bands were using these guitars I could tell they were using SG2000s just by hearing a track on the radio. Sadly, its distictiveness may why it never achieved quite the fame it merited as many folks just wanted LPs.
My dad is sending me a 77 red sunburst, he and his buddies call it the "last man standing" and I guess that's me. I'm a P-90 man, but I think I may be swayed. Thanks for the insight, ps you're quite the shredder.
wich is model of santana? the 1000 or the 2000????; i love this guitar, i want this guitar..... i cant wait for that santana style, sustain and warm sound
Sorry if this is a crude question but do you know how much your guitar is worth, approx? I know someone who has one and he has no idea if it's worth anything Thanks in advance
I had one of these and gigged it in my 1980s rock bands. Then it got ripped off in a burglary, about 1989. But they are fckn superb. I am now Jonesin' to get one back and checking out the 'Bay. Gotta be black, though.
The yamaha SG is SO greatly built. Some call it the LP/SG-killer. I don't think you can compare these guitars soundwise, but the yam is cheaper, better built and has neckthrough. I have owned one of these and loved it, but sold it later on to get a Suhr Standard. Oh... and great playing as well :-) Søren, Denmark
very nice great commun. u r an inteligent entertainer complimenty heh? I used to have a yamaha sg 250 which I sold and now I miss it. Maybe once Ill go for SG 2000 who knows...
I love the sg/les paul look of the guitar. Great tune too. Still prefer my fender strat, but I must admit yamaha created an amazing instrument when they made this guitar.
My masculine tendencies have just dictated that I go and buy the one I have just seen advertised here in Perth Western Australia. Thats a very cool guitar mate thanks for posting and thanks for the laugh, I can see you have a great sense of taking the piss out of things lol
Love the comment feel the rising force lol too funny. Wish I still had my sbg but do have a pacifica 1221 MS currently plays great gotta love the high end yamaha stuff.
I have always wanted one of these fuckers since i was a kid about 1977, 78ish. as a lefty let's face it i'm not ever gonna have one. don't think they ever did a LH version anyway. if there is one, i'm not gonna be able to afford one so let's stick to my les paul lol come to think of it, not a bad substitute?
save up for an 1802 or 1820? I know they are a crap ton more, but they come in lefty i think? Or... just hendrix ir out and flip the strings? These are cool guitars
That was awesome, Masculine Tendencies, Lol LOve it Bosepherous!! hell yeah I think that word id heavier than the guitar..oh and last but not least is be a heretic...awesome ...thanks for sharing
Thanks for this video! 14 years later, I’d rather watch this than some of the other demos of this cool guitar that I’ve come acrosss
It is so wonderful that you can get a beautiful jazz tone from the JSX amp and the gorgeous Yamaha. The rock and blues tones are also fantastic!

Nice techniques, etc. for getting learnt and killer choice of guitfiddle!
I love the "annoy the blues police" lick.
Wow... That's a beauty alright Oscar. I can see why you are so proud of it.

From Dan in the UK
Great stuff, love the chops and the guitar.
Ah, the force is strong in this one!
Thickery is great; nice demo, Oscar, and nice playing. Thanks.

Awesome video! I turned down two of these way back in the day. I regret it now.
My brother from another mother. Well really, you're a better guitarist than I am. I sure agree about the 1970s, and the guitar.
Great Demo loved it
Really like this video, man!
Very nice playing sir....
I seen Santan playing one in some old footage. I heard that was his main axe for a time in his career. Cool jazz licks too!
Oh my god the guitar sounds heavenly i want one
Great Video mate, great guitar too, well done.
You are a very cool guy and hella guitarist. I hope I could met you one day.
I like this guy's style

Love this guy and the Yammy SG. Great player and funny!
Killer chops, Oscar! Are you also a singer?

The anti Blues-jam lick is fantastic dude.It really reminds me of Vernon Reid's freak-outs.Love your attitude man.
@vvblues does the tone differ a lot between the 2000 and 1000? i ask because all my guitars are set necks, except for my first act that i keep for sentimental reasons
I have a 1978 sg500 its badassery for sure
great review
Great guitar!!!
Great Guitar Oscar, I have a SBG2000.
'78 specifically was the best year for music, period.
Often overlooked about the SG2000 is that it is not a Les Paul wannabe - sure it has many of the LP's signature features but it has a very distinctive sound and I think it was always Yamaha's aim to make a guitar that stood alone with its own character. Good stuff man!. Cheers.

i love it when people complete their sentences with guitar playing. Beautiful instrument, I first saw chris poland play one
awesome guitar, love it!
how thick is the neck? i'm looking to try this model and my hands are rather small haha.
What is the difference between the sg1000 and sg2000?
I've still got a copy of the review Allan Holdsworth did on one of these for a guitar magazine when they first came out in the late '70s.
wich is model of santana? the 1000 or the 2000????; i love this guitar, i want this guitar..... i cant wait for that santana style, sustain and warm sound
great video... nice guitar also. Would look great next to my 78 pf 300
Sorry if this is a crude question but do you know how much your guitar is worth, approx?

awesome stuff dude, you really know your shit !!!
All SGs are extremely well built and off high quality. 3000s are the most expensive.
Heavy but you get tone as the benefit
I love your guitar!!!! Damn!!!!
damn thats really nice. I got the 1000 but its okay id still like to try out the 2000 but it just seems like the 2000 owns all.
I own a 78 SG2000 also, best guitar I've ever played but it is heavy!!
hey very cool video..that guitar is a keeper
The yamaha SG is SO greatly built. Some call it the LP/SG-killer. I don't think you can compare these guitars soundwise, but the yam is cheaper, better built and has neckthrough.
I have owned one of these and loved it, but sold it later on to get a Suhr Standard.

....and the SG2000's body is 2 or 3cm more thicker than SG1000
Love the comment feel the rising force lol too funny. Wish I still had my sbg but do have a pacifica 1221 MS currently plays great gotta love the high end yamaha stuff.
I have always wanted one of these fuckers since i was a kid about 1977, 78ish. as a lefty let's face it i'm not ever gonna have one. don't think they ever did a LH version anyway. if there is one, i'm not gonna be able to afford one so let's stick to my les paul lol come to think of it, not a bad substitute?
