This was Saucy Silvia's theme song for many years at the "Auld Mug Lounge at the Sheraton Island in Newport, RI. A great and wonderful lady- sadly missed."
I miss Blossom Dearie so much....one of my few regrets is that I never got to see her live even when she played Daniel's (?) all those years in the W40s in NYC. She was a true American jazz master who never achieved the commercial success she so richly deserved.
I was lucky enough to see Blossom many times both at Pizza on the Park and The Cafe Royal. Every performance was magic. She would always remain, after her set, to sign autographs and generally chat. A truly wonderful person
@tvnotalent C'mon man ... pencils from Pennsylvania, vests from West Virginia ... it's a nonsense lyric by Howard Dietz and never fails to make me smile! Check out a wonderful version by the marvellous and much missed Nancy Lamott.
I love Blossom Dearie's rendition of this song, but the song writers were not well versed in geography. For example, "Grand canyons come from Colorad-a" - Nope, the Grand Canyon in entirely in Arizona near the borders of Nevada and Utah. The only connection to "Colorad-a" is that the Colorado River runs through the Grand Canyon. The Colorado River also runs through 7 states (when including the tributaries to the Colorado River): Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, and California, not just the state of Colorado. If you argue that they were referring to the Colorado River in the song since it carved the Grand Canyon, I beg to differ on the grounds that all of the other references in the song are to states from which the items mentioned come. In addition, to get the Grand Canyon required not only the eroding action of the river, but also the locale for the river to erode, and that locale is entirely in the state of Arizona. Yes, I know this comment is pedantic, so you don't need to point that out. I also know that it does not detract from the pithy humor of the song, nor one's enjoyment of it.
The song does not talk about THE Grand Canyon, but "grand canyons," and Colorado certainly does have some grand canyons. th-cam.com/video/cc9-ERXUsP8/w-d-xo.html

Trenton makes, the world takes. K-9 is from there!
Please see when the song was written and understand how people were then. It is a light hearted ditty for fun, not intellectually sound!

Hey, you don't get to point out everything pedantically and then say don't point out that I'm a pedant.
Wear your crown proudly. And seek help.

The best part, this song was sung to a chicken. The chicken that appears at the end of the song there.

Best line was "New Jersey gives us glue"

Glad she left Canada out of this.
Considering Canada isn't part of the states, I would assume she would.
I have no idea why I made that comment in the first place.
