  • Yes, your smart TV will work fine without an internet connection.
You will be able to watch TV channels with a cable box or antenna, connect Blu-ray/DVD players, hook up speakers, etc - just like a regular TV.
You will not, however, be able to use any of the video streaming apps that come with it.

I'm old, I just want to watch regular TV. NO internet, NO cable ,nothing ! I just want to watch regular TV. NO extra cost for streaming a device that cost extra money or satalite service that cost a fortune and keeps going up. I don't know anything about all these hundreds of devices , like roku , fire sticks, orange others that plug in to your TV. NOR do I know about all the gadgets you use thru direct TV or Dishnet. I live in a rural area so I don't know what type of antenna or box I would need to get as many channels as possible. Oh well !! I guess I'm lost in a world where complicated tech is taking over and every minute of your life cost you money , even to just try and relax and watch a show on TV. Because I remember when watching TV did not cost anything, even if you left your TV on 24 hours a day.

You're just smart yourself, so a regular TV will do just fine.

A non smart tv should work. You can get a 22 inch one.

I live in a rural area and don't have internet, wifi, or cable. But I got an antenna from Antennas direct. They have outdoor and indoor, I've tried both. The outdoor one is the best, though both are good. I live 45 miles from the towers. And I get over 20 free channels. It reminds me of when I was a kid in the 80s, but just more modern. No monthly fees or anything. Pretty easy to set up. If you live close by a radio station, hospital, airport, ect, you might need an LTE filter to stop interference with the channels. It's usually around $20 and worth it. I used one when I lived next to a hospital paired with the indoor one. It worked great for me. I haven't paid for cable or dish for years. It takes some patience, setting them up and finding the best spot and direction, but worth it. Also, if there's distance or the TV is old a digital box can be added too to help pull in and stabilize more channels. The cheaper Ines work fine. Good luck.

"Short answer" that's the main line these days ain't it? 😁 damn. Never thought that buying and watching TV would evolve into such an over complicated matter 🙃... ❤

Well, my smart TV used to let me watch OTA programs without connecting to the internet. But an update several months ago changed that and prevented the watching of local TV channels OTA. I live in a very rural area with problematic internet connection, so this is an issue, especially during storms. OK, I had a work around. I could put the TV on HDMI input and use a DVD player with an internal tuner. Well, another recent update now won't allow the TV to use an HDMI input without WiFI connection. WTF?

My Smart tv works great and has plenty of channels via wifi. The only channel i miss is my states NBA team on cable or antenna only. I don't pick up anything from my indoor antenna. Which makes no since. Yes i changed my input to scan the off air channels .

I'm thinking about getting a QD-OLED from Samsung, but am already sick of the ads and spying. So I'm thinking to use a Raspberry with Kodi for everything online.

FYI google referenced your video after I did a search asking if smart TVs were a little cheaper due to companies with apps on the TV subsidizing cost of tv for obvious reasons.

I was gifted with two smart TVs when a friend of mine passed away. I don't want to connect to the internet since I am concerned about my TV spying on me. I don't want to turn my TV to turn into an "espianage box."

This is not true. I just returned a Vizio smart tv because I couldn't watch my cable TV with it. It kept asking me for my internet connection with no way to bypass it.

I was just skimming some of these comments here. Well I have no TV today because the stupid internet connections out, and rebooting did not fix the issue. They'll send out a tech tomorrow, and you know they're going to try to charge me. I am furious at this whole internet crap that we have to deal with anymore! They want us to do everything online and it's so darn frustrating and complicated! Bring back the old TV's... dang..it!
