Hi Andy, just wanted to say thanks. I’m an Australian serviceman serving in Malaysia stuck in hospital waiting for an op on my spine. Your latest video brightens my day and allows me to dream of better times when my wife and I can purchase our dream bike for touring the land of oz. GS or RT is my challenge at the moment but given I’m 6ft 4’’ I’m leaning towards the GS. Please keep up the good work your videos are helping with my recovery. In military terms BZ. Jack and pip.

Get the GS Adventure, mate. I’ve got an RT (latest version). I’m 6ft, and have the pegs lowered and my seat on the highest setting. It’s alleviated the pain I had in my knees, but there’s an unexpected consequence of the Wünderlich peg lowering kit. Last week, I tipped into a largish roundabout, leaned forward and opened the throttle. I got the shock of my life. I heard a scraping noise and pulled the brakes and stood the bike up. I thought it was the cylinder head (or the protector). It was the sensor (nipple) on the peg. I was only at 37 degrees, according to the BMW app!
Andy is right about the knee angle. It’s not as relaxed as the GS/GS Adventure. I also suspect (only suspect) the GSA has a higher stand over height, not just because of the elevated suspension travel. The tank is wider. On the RT it’s quite wide and I think it’s wider than the standard GS.
Having put 7.5k miles in all weathers in 5.5 months I can say the weather protection is amazing. The gadgets are superb. The 10.25 screen is far better than the pokey little one on the GS, which is a consideration if you need reading glasses! The electronic goodies are amazing, especially the ACC (radar cruise). I ride mostly in eco mode, I never use rain and hardly use road. Dynamic and eco are the only two you really need, and they are night and day. There’s also one benefit of the RT over the GS/GSA: the lower fairings stop your legs from being barbecued by the cylinder heads on a hot day!
Another great thing about the RT is the panniers are standard, whereas on the GS/GSA they’re an extra (though RT is several thousand pounds more than the GSA.) Now, having said all that, my next bike will be the new GSA! Why? Because the roads in the UK are a total disgrace and like many countries there’s money to waste helping other people, but not British people. The government is playing with the lives of British road users especially motorcyclists. With 8.66in of rear travel and 8.25in at the front compared to only 5in rear travel on the RT, the GSA could fall down the Grand Canyon and ride out…ok an exaggeration! I also think, as my sports exploited body starts to pay the price, the more relaxed keg angle will be better. As they’re adding all the bells and whistles on the new GS, I’m sure it’s the one to buy.

Fabulous vid. I lived near Siena for several years . You visited many places that bring back great memories. May and June, due to the climate, relative absence of mosquitos and the wild flowers, are the best months to visit. Don't worry about your pronunciation of the places you visited, at least you made an effort! I genuinely can't think of a better holiday. I look forward to more episodes.

If you ask for pasta Bolognaise, most won't have it, and the ones that do will serve you pasta with some sausage. :) I think I'd enjoy something like this, staying in a villa, seeing the sights, but the idea of doing it on an unfamiliar bike is a bit less interesting. Looks like a great place to ride. I'm not one for walking around town centres in biking gear, though.
I have a question about your comment on your leg position being cramped up on the bike. I've heard other similar comments, and I'm always surprised when I hear them. I'm 5'10" and I have never noticed it on my RT, let alone seen it as a problem. I've never ridden a GS, so maybe it's relative to your experience, but I was wondering if the bike you were riding had the low seat fitted?

HI Andy and Carol thanks for another great tour series what a treat for a Saturday morning, I agree with you about the slog we sometimes have to do on tour we are touring the same area and as it takes days to get there you’re often knackered by the time you get to the main bit so it makes sense to fly in and out and enjoy the riding, See you at the ABR in 5 days time 😊

I’m with you on liking analog dials for speed and RPM. TFTs are nice, but hard to beat dials for quick glance information.

Another splendid series to look forward to thanks Andy. I completely agree regarding the massive TFT, it looks like an afterthought the way its sort of plonked on there. Roll. On the next episode!

While you were riding in Tuscany , me and ten friends from the Detroit and Toronto area were riding in Ireland on hired BMW's from Celtic Riders. We followed the shores of Ireland in a clockwise fashion on the Wild Atlantic Way and had a great time. Over the 14 day period we had less rain than you did on day 1 of your 2023 Tuscany tour which did (pleasantly) surprise us. Great scenery, friendly people, lots of sheep and some fabulous chowders. Highly recommended tour and touring outfit.

Good to see you back on another tour.
We are great fans of Tuscany and one of our favourite lunch stops is Lucca.
You were commenting about the marble stairs in the villa, when you get up in the Tuscan mountains you will find the marble mines and villages where the churches are totally made of marble and in one village even the kerbstones where made of marble.
Looking forward to the next episode.

Missed this episode last week 😔
The RT is a great bike, I owned one. The weight of the bike became an issue for my shoulders when moving it around without engine power and cornering at low speeds, so I bought a lighter one.
I rode the RT in heavy rain and it kept me dry while riding.
I could just reach the ground on my RT, on a GS I couldn’t. Same with the V-Strom. On my Honda CBF100, I can easily reach the ground.

That loox like a much more comfortable tour with stops using a base to explore from. Rather than having to knock out several hundred miles a day. One thing though, I'd like to see the names of the towns and villages stopped at come up on the screen. Or the route you ride at the end of the video.

Spaghetti bolognese is not part of traditional Bolognese or even Italian cuisine (10:50). It was invented abroad around 1917 in the USA or maybe in the UK by southern Italian immigrants, as tagliatelle was hard to get hold of in World War I.

Heck of a job to have for Adrian - motorcycle tour guide in Tuscany. I'm sure there are things about that job too that are nightmarish, but getting to ride around Tuscany on a daily basis just seeing the sights, no pressure, and making a living off... I guess Adrian wins! 😂 Sounds like the planning is good also - as you say, not an endurance test. If you go somewhere to be a tourist and ride, the riding is important but hammering out 8 hour rides isn't really the goal, the goal is to see the sights and have a vacation surely.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  ปีที่แล้ว

Agreed - and Adrian makes it look easy, that's the trick, believe me running a motorcycle tour business is not as straightforward or stress free as it may seem!

Yet another excellent video and a fine view around the magnificent countryside. I question your habit of revving out in 2nd and 3rd gears on some of those roads having owned a number of RTs and GSs. Why not change up and enjoy BMW’s major feature, torque.😁👍
