    This is why Jon has earned my respect and admiration. The guys is a genuine human being, I like how he gently shut down his own staff for pushing the same generalized narrative that has been spread by his peers, in order to give an individual opinion, not a regurgitated sound bite.

What Neil Young did was not liberal at all, it was a play right out of FOX news. 2 wrongs don't make a right. @Michael Aronson actually, it does. His myocarditis example with Joe illustrates how. Sure, some will double down…but just because some are dishonest, does not mean all must be dishonest. The chance of shared knowledge is worth engaging in earnest and good faith.

    • @BRexxors
      @BRexxors 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Michael Aronson awfully binary thinking. Doesn’t have to be so black and white. I said “some” people, meaning others can be willing to have their minds changed. Reach consensus. Be humble enough to see the world past their own backyard. The fact that some are so dug in does not mean that we should toss up our hands and give up. Some people ARE too obtuse and unreasonable to reach. You should still at least try.

      @Michael Aronson Engagement does solve the problem, one has to engage to put their information out there. No engagement means nothing has been said in the first place, leaving it impossible to resolve the problem entirely. Nobody starts with the right ideas or information. Thus, the need to engage with others, that's how people learn in the first place.

    • @BRexxors
      @BRexxors 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Michael Aronson you created a black /white fallacy on the topic of engagement, in what seemed like a means to dismiss what I had said earlier. You seem to suggest that because engagement doesn’t work for some, that it never works. Or perhaps that engagement is only worthwhile if it always works. Joe engaging with new information regarding a preconceived notion over myocarditis, encountering contrary information, and altering his position once proven wrong, is evidence that some people can change their original position if confronted with contradicting facts.

People have been explaining things to him for YEARS and he still repeats lies. So this wishy-washy liberal-centrist idea that you should just engage is myopic and naive. In many if not most cases, THAT DOES NOT WORK. Engaging with Rogan has done nothing except allow him to continue spreading misinformation to 10 million people every show.

      Agreed, and I think the reason the real people on the left, center, and right have such difficulty agreeing on things that seem so obvious is that the countless grifters on the right, as well as the propaganda coming from MSNBC and CNN, very intentionally obfuscate the meanings so that people dont see that one person is talking about people who reject fact or science, while another is fighting back against that on the basis of moral truths (using rhetoric equivalent to "You call everyone you dislike a nazi"). Essentially everyone understands that other people will have different moralities than them, but people like Tim Pool and Ben Shapiro do everything they can to portray their own morality as being based on purely fact, even though nobody relies on their feelings to determine which facts they believe more than conservative grifters. They almost all have literally admitted that they determine their views first, and work backwards from there.

      Except you could turn that on Jon Stewart as well, he made a deal with _Apple_ to get on this new show. The only reason we even hear from these famous people is _because_ they engage with systems of capitalism, because *none of us have any choice but to engage with those systems.* If we want to eat, have a roof over our head, or reach a wide audience, it doesn't matter whether you're Neil Young, Jon Stewart, Joe Rogan, or some random schlub on the internet, we're *all forced to engage with those systems.* And so criticizing someone for that...is like criticizing someone for breathing.
      There is no way to 100% ethically engage with those systems, and demanding that from the people you disagree with is unreasonable. If Neil refused to play the game, he wouldn't gain *anything,* he'd just be shut out. You can't engage with the system on your own terms...asking anyone to do so is inherently unreasonable, practically unachievable, and likely not worth the effort.

It comes from seeing him as someone who has a wide influence and too much confidence in ideas that he does not know how to verify. He plays skeptic for the sake of it, when in reality it’s more along the lines that he doesn’t have the scope to understand the complex science behind a lot of what he decides to be skeptical about. This happens to almost everyone. It’s not an uncommon thing- but when someone with Joe Rogan’s influence on the public sphere does that- it’s worth giving it a second thought.

The preponderance of evidence supports that both covid and Moderna/pfizer vaccines increase rates, but the latter increases it MORE in an age-stratified manner, and especially in males. In fact, the guest who “fact checked” him, later on Twitter posted that he was wrong.
      Nevertheless, Jon’s point stands and is very important - which is to say, he respects Joe for not being so ideological as to be unwilling to change his stance in the face of new information…it’s just that in this case, the new information turned out to mislead more than inform.

You obviously haven’t followed Young’s career, or you would realize that nobody makes Neil Young do anything. He’s an audiophile so he’s only suggesting Amazon’s streaming service as an alternative because it offers higher quality audio compared to Spotify. Amazon offers lossless music at a higher quality, for audiophiles, something Spotify doesn’t offer. Also, by promoting Amazon Neil is offering his fans an alternative to Spotify, instead of leaving them without an alternative streaming platform.

      Commendable, but I have to disagree. Not all opinions are "valid", and they certainly aren't all worth listening to. When it comes to statements of fact that are objectively false, those aren't opinions, and presenting them as "alternative" options to believe on a large platform can be extremely dangerous. It's valuable to take on those claims in a structured way to show how they're wrong, like in the example Jon gave with the myocarditis thing, but how often does that actually happen? How many people get through that part but still choose to believe the falsehood that Rogan kept repeating leading up to that just because it was repeated more?
