    Just got mine back together! it shifts to all the gears and everything. One thing I did different from you that ended up being real easy was i used the puller tool that pulls against the input shaft (during removal), just the "nipple" really, and some oil to get the new snap ring on. The trans was stood up vertically on the ground and I just used my body weight to get the ring on in 2 seconds.
    Thank you for these vids.

    love the detailed videos! I'm doing the exact same job on my Getrag 260. But I run into a issue. I pressed in my bearing the same way as you did. It is bottoming out because the bearing is pressed in all the way. So that should be good. But some how my inputshaft is now too far back to get the clip in. Seems like I have got too pull the inputshaft a little bit further through the bearing. Any ideas how I can make that happen? Cheers!

    • @85garage
      @85garage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, I’ve ran in to this problem as well and I’m actually going to make another refined video showing this soon. What I’ve done to fix this issue is a little tricky but here’s how what I do: use a bottle jack under the transmission while it is on the press to put pressure on the output shaft upwards. Do this while putting pressure on the bearing using your press at the same time. This should push the input shaft further up into the bell housing. Let me know if you have any questions and let me know how this works for you.

      @@85garage your way did not work for me. But made it happen anyway. What I did was a bit sketchy: I connected a strap too the inputshaft and hung it from the ceiling. I heated up the bearing. And then tapped on the inner edge of the bearing till it could not go further. Lots of swearing, but very happy now!
      Also found out that you can use the old bearing too press on the new clip. So put on the clip first, after that put the old bearing on top of the clip. And simple press till the clip is on the part that is not getting any wider. Worked like a charm!
      Thank you for your time 🙏🏼

    • @85garage
      @85garage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it shifts great but the used bearings I put in it are still a little noisy. I’d recommend always using a new input and output shaft and 2 new countershaft bearings when reassembling. That’s what I’m going to do in the spring.

      Nope, it can be in any gear. The pin is what provides a positive detent feel on the shift rod.

      Are you having problems inserting the shift rod all the way into it’s hole? Check for burs on the end of the shaft. Sometimes a small one forms during disassembly. If this happens I’ll run a fine file over them until it’s smooth.
