Kai is correct. A corn dog is a hotdog, fried in cornmeal.
Definitely need to try one, I've been America twice and still not had one.. there's simply no excuse!
The pig races are every bit as cute as you imagine.
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is the largest rodeo in the world and lasts a little over 3 weeks. Josh and Ollie went during the daytime hours and missed quite a few events that happen in the evening including bull riding, calf roping and other activities. Also, there are concerts scheduled almost every night with the artists filling the stadium with as many as 60,000 people
Wow, night time at a rodeo sounds like the place to be! :)
Florida checking in. So much to unpack here, so I'll try not to waffle on😂 1, yes Josh should have gotten the black hat instead. 2, corn dogs are in fact dipped in a batter that is corn based, and are delicious. 3, the best comparison I can make for a graham cracker is it tastes similar to a biscoff, but much more dense, and S'mores are a camping tradition (you roast the marshmallows on a stick over the campfire, slap it on a piece of chocolate on a graham cracker and top it with another to make a sandwich). 4, They may not be rodeos, but we have State Fairs like this all over the USA that last an entire month as well. 5, American cheesecake is not the whipped style, and definitely more dense than its European counterpart (as we use cream cheese and eggs). And finally 6, key lime pie is one of my favorite desserts. Key limes are a lot smaller, round like a pingpong ball, slightly more tart and it being deep fried is an abomination!😂❤
Corn batter turns in to cornbread when cooked. Yes it has corn in it. I love corn dogs without any sauce. It takes away from the delicious cornbread. If you eat everything with ketchup, everything taste like ketchup, the same.
I realize that turkey isn't as much of a thing over there, so you may not know. Smoked turkey legs taste very much like really good ham on a stick. Far different from any other turkey you may have had.
I rode bareback horses and saddle broncs in my younger days. The rodeo is always a good time. It's family friendly fun and tickets are always reasonable. There's food, crafts, and all kinds of things to see and do. Mutton bustin is one of my favorite things on the planet. The kiddos have a great time and it's a ton of fun to watch.
S'more is what we normally eat while camping. Roast the marshmallow over the fire, then put it on the gramcracker with the chocolate. The hot marshmallow will melt the chocolate. Its really good!!!
Oh yummy! :)
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo takes place every year starting the last week of February and going till mid March.
The Texas State Fair is similar. It's in Dallas and held in September.
The crust is cornmeal batter. The dog on a stick is dipped in the batter and deep fried.
key lime is from Florida. it is a smaller but strong lime, you need something sweet with it
It is not just Texas, its everywhere is the USA!
Good to know, that means we'll be able to visit from anywhere. :)
@@AliKaiProject Almost anywhere, some states I am not sure of, but I can guess 75% or more have at least 1!
If a Twinkie is like a cream sausage roll, a s'more is like a marshmallow ham and cheese sandwich 😂
Yum! :)))
I am sure they have it globally in rural areas. But at all of my schools they had raffles where they basically make a huge grid, 25X25 squares for example, and you place "bets" on what square the cow shits in. Haha
They conditioned us early to gamble haha
for hats, you want a leather or felt hat for winter to help keep heat in and straw made hats for summer to help dissipate the heat. also you want lighter colors for summer and darker colors for winter.
Makes sense :)
This video is not a fair representation of a normal rodeo. They are actually at the State Fair event that has some rodeo events included in it. Rodeos are normally their own event and held at their own venue and include many times of events, including bull riding, bronc riding (bareback and saddle), roping, heading and heeling, barrel racing, etc. Rodeos are popular all over the US, they are not exclusive to Texas. A corn dog is a hot dog dipped in cornbread batter and deep fried. They are fantastic! Fair food is meant to be fun and novel and hand-held so you can eat it while you walk around. People look forward to going to the State Fair every year mainly for the unique food.
Corn dogs and diving dogs together. Doesn't get better
I live in Houston where this Rodeo is and it's always a blast. Before the official start there is a BBQ cook-off where up to 😂200 teams participate in various categories for.#1 recognition. There is an auction part for the livestock that students from FFA ( Future Farmers of America ) clubs get scholarships for college. Grand champion steer went for $1 million dollars. This Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo runs mid February into March so nice time of year to visit. What you're describing as far as rodeo part is correct, they do have bull riding, barrel racing, bronco busting ( breaking in horses ), calf roping and other events. This is a huge event most local rodeos in the States aren't this big. Lot's of country western stars perform along with R&B, Rock and other genre.
Wow, sounds really awesome!
any 'fried' foods that are at an event or 'fair' are usually battered in a thick corn meal batter before being deep fried...
It is corn batter, just to let you understand~
This is the Texas State Fair and Rodeo.
Well Jolly never did make it into the Large Radeo inside NRG Stadium. They would have needed a ticket to see the Concert and Radeo which is a different day for a month and you buy for the Person or Group you want to listen to in Concert. The large Rodeo has different events like Bronco riding and Bull riding and more.
You can also see greased pig catching contests sometimes but they're not as common anymore.
Oh that sounds like it would be loads of fun 😃
There are, basically, two kinds of cornmeal: sweet and plain (of course - you have white cornmeal and yellow cornmeal) - usually, "fair" corndogs have a yellow, somewhat sweet cornmeal batter around a beef / pork hotdog and fried so they're a lil' crispy on the outside. SO YUMMY!! I like JUST mustard on mine....OR: just ketchup, rarely. I think you'd BOTH enjoy them!! THEY ARE YUMMY!!
Corn bread should not be gritty. It's usually fluffy and moist and often sweet and/or spicy. Every Southern cook has their own version of it.
I love key lime pie. I would love to try it deep fried.
at a typical rodeo there are several events that involve animals and many more that don't involve animals. bull riding is only one of several events as is 'bronco busting' (breaking untamed (domesticated or wild horses) to train them to be ridden....
Honestly nobody would order all of that fried stuff and eat it in one go. They are doing it for their channel and views (I guess) but it was a bad idea to order and eat all of this. Its no wonder Ollie is nearly comatose. I would probably have just settled for the fried ice cream.
Fried ice cream actually looks incredible. :)
I'm not good with heat, so the idea of mixing a hot Texas day, with a year's worth of sugar and fried food, plus going on some rides, etc.... I'd be throwing up for hours, then be comatose for 24 hours!
Corn dogs are essentially cornbread batter + hot dogs.
Yummy! Need to try one! Hot dogs are always a winner so this can only be a level up.
BTW, there's no such thing as 'rodeo food' , it's just fair food. A rodeo happens to be occurring as part of the Texas state fair. If one purchased a hot dog at a Knicks game would that make said hot dog basketball food?
Ah so it’s a rodeo in the state fair?
Cornmeal batter
I liked the black hat better too. Fried Oreos are a common fair food here. Im not a big fan. To me, It makes the Oreo appear to be a stale one. And I'm not real crazy about that. I prefer fried Snickers.
I don't think I have seen one of their videos when Ollie doesn't remind me of Martin Short
S'mores are great.
You two wouldn't have so many questions, if you listened, and not talked through the whole episode!
You're probably right. :)
Fried alligator is better than fried chicken. I will die on that hill
Wow really?! That’s really interesting, never would have thought so!
Please stop talking over the video. You’re missing out on a lot of things that they are talking about and then you ask questions because you missed the conversations. Plus try to wait until the end of conversations to pause so you can react. I don’t mind the reactions as that’s the point of the video, but how you do the reactions makes all the difference. I have also noticed that you are not well versed in American stuff like most of the other TH-camrs.
Noted, thank you for the feedback 👍😀.
Every corn dog I've ever eaten was made with a batter akin to pancake batter. I think it would be delicious with cornmeal but I never ate one or even saw one. We can buy them frozen and bake them in the oven but the best ones are freshly fried, they often make cheese sticks, same as corn dog only it has a long chunk of cheese in the center. It's delicious!. Yes Turkey legs are HUGE!
Actually, if you look in the dictionary Corndog is defined as having cornmeal. If you look up corndog recipes, they call for cornmeal. If it was something like a pancake batter, why on Earth would it be called a corndog???
@@RogCBrand I have no idea I've just always thought of them as having a pancake batter texture. Even when I watch them being made at the Fair it looks like pancake batter, it's not gritty like cornmeal?
@@lennybuttz2162 I've never had either a corndog or cornbread that was gritty. Though I could imagine if it wasn't properly cooked...
@@RogCBrand Cornbread does have a rougher texture because of the cornmeal. Even cornmeal mush has a sort of gritty texture.
@@lennybuttz2162 I make cornbread all the time and it's never gritty... though, as I said, if someone doesn't cook it properly, then it could be.
