I have all of James Herriot’s books and read them more than just once. Wonderful stories, wonderful writing and on top of all this, a most wonderful, caring human being.
These books and movies have helped me get through some very difficult periods in my life. I cannot say how thankful I am to Mr. Herriot (Alf) for bringing them to the world. His children should be so very proud to know what a difference their father made to millions of people around the world.
I really like how they talk about their father with such deep respect and love. Such a precious person deserves to live forever, unfortunately, he lives only in his books, because he is still very popular and well-liked. Thank you, Mr.Herriot...while reading your books I felt to be part of your family.
I have wandered through the Yorkshire hills with Veterinary Dr. Herriot many times, mostly when I needed peace and an escape from my own depression and overwhelming melancholy. I can think of no books(s) outside of the Bible that is capable of providing such medicinal peace, and sheer goodness of spirit.
I was thinking about reading his books when I was a young boy 50 years ago. I think it was the first book that ever reached my heart made me think about something more than myself bigger than me horizons I don't know Just one of my great memories.❤
Just super cool to see people paying attention with this, I have a little three almost four-year-old granddaughter hangs out with me here on the farm, not really that I'm teaching her about the world Just giving her the opportunity to discover the world. Plants animals bugs dirt trees it's all one one thing and it's kind of cool to be able to see or discover this threw her eyes
God rest your father . I watched the T.V. Show in the 70s and I'm still watching it now and go to bed every night reading his wonderful stories over and over again. So proud that my late cousin Colin Deehan was the camera man in at least 5 episodes of this wonderful series.
James Herriot books have to be my all time favorite. I have read them so many times over the years and I never tire of them. I also love to watch the older All Creatures tv series over and over. Now I also watch the new series that is out now. Doesn't get any better that All Creatures.
I had the great pleasure to visit Thirsk last year and see the Museum - and I was so lucky to meet Jim and Rosie there. They were both sweet and kind to me. I have read all of the Herriot books, in my own language and in English, as well, and Jim Wights book about his father. I will never forget the visit. I will also thank the Museum stuff, especially a dear lady, who received us (my brother and me) with loving care at the Museum door. She gave me a clover when we left. Greetings from Hungary
Hello from Zimbabwe! Found James through "All Things...." and "All Creatures....". My brother's now wife (he's a vet) bought both books for him as a present. Absolutely loved his writing style and humor. Thank you James for your contribution to humanity. God bless.
I'm 56 now and have read through the James Herriot books every two or three years since I first read them in my early 20s. Beautiful books written by a fine, kind, gentle man.
My mother introduced me to the books many years ago. Sadly, she passed on at the age of 98 in October. I have the opportunity to visit North Yorkshire in a couple of days. Thirsk and the museum is a must for me. My mother and I would want it.
I am just one of the millions of people who has been made happier for the books written by Jim Wight. Indeed he transports one to a place, time and events that both enriches ones day and, thows light on humanity's otherwise questionable behaviour. Loved the interview he did with Melvin Bragg which,if you have not seen it on TH-cam ,do check it out. What a wonderful huiman being !!
I am reading the books again for the third time and I am getting just as much pleasure as the first time, maybe its Alzheimer’s, or maybe they are just wonderful, well written books. Many thanks for this tribute.
I read my first James Herriot book as a 10 year old, and now as a seasoned 50 year his stories still move me. What a great writer. I wish I could have met him just to say thank you. I'm lucky to work in the areas that he spent some time in - mostly around Scarborough, where he was posted during his time in the RAF, and get great pleasure in glimpsing the places he described so vividly, connecting the stories from his books and almost seeing them come to life. His books are a great legacy, and a little glimpse into a different age.
A big part of his success regarding his books,to me at least, is the fact that as easy and light as they were to read, they belied a conciseness and quality to their tone that could almost avoid detection.
James Alf Wight (Herriot ) Incredible human be.Amazing Vet.He is an inmortal Heroe for Animals and their owners. Thanks Dear colegue for yours lessons of life...

Fantastise famillie!!!
Great escapism I can read a Herriot book or watch all creatures and it's like covid isn't happening for 1 hour pressing the pause button as they keep saying at work
Just 3 days ago I checked out video All Creatures Great and Small. I think I’m the last American to not have seen the BBC production and not to have read any of the books. Today I bought “All Creatures “ just because I wanted to know a prior age in Scotland.
Welcome to the wonderful world of James Herriot my friend, now you’re here at last, better late than never and now you’ll never want o leave. Best wishes and happy reading to you.
