It’s so cool you can mix and match components from all the groups. For my hardtail I went with XT cassette (51T), Deore mech, XT shifter, Deore chain, SLX cranks with XT bb and Garbaruk oval chainring, and Deore/Alivio dropper remote (thanks to your video) that works with OneUp dropper. For brakes I went with Magura MT Trails with Magura rotors. All works flawless!

      My pick would probably be:
      GX shifter (for aluminum construction)
      X01 chain (for durability)
GX cassette (for the 10T cog)
      NX/GX derailleur (I don't know the difference)
      NX crankset (for low price)
Though a video on that would be nice.

Beware that XT/XTR shifters have been plagued with a long standing issue - after some time a spring inside breaks and the shifter stops working. It supposedly got fixed sometime down the road but I bought mine in 2021 and it broke after 3 years of low/medium use. I've bough a SLX shifter afterwards (only because I got it cheaper than Deore, otherwise I would go for Deore). I also cheap out on the chain but maybe it's worth trying XT? Agree on the rest + you could always upgrade the jockey wheels on the deore derailleur to the sealed bearing ones from the XT model.

What a lot of people don't know, Sram 12 mtb derailleurs are actually able to shift up or down the whole range of the cassette with one motion, if you pair it it a micro shift 12 speed thumb shifter. I ride exclusively sram now, because I don't like the way the clutch on the shimano deraillieurs engages way too late, which makes it almost useless.

Smashed the xt rear mech a few times (replaced the hanger 4 times in 2 years) but still running smoothly. I do admit i am one of those who clean their bikes almost after every ride so maintenance help keep it running smooth. Hey man, really liking your videos! Also, can you confirm that the 6100 brakes have less degrees of rotation in the i spec compared to the 7100 brakes? Do you think that and the Pin instead of the screw on the caliper could be an issue? Thanks in advance for your help!

There is a difference but for me it doesn't matter at all.
I always have the levers as close to each other as possible and I think the added movement clearance doesn't go in that direction.

Why do you prefer 6 bolts over centerlock? I have read that centerlock can develop play between rotor and hub. I need to choose new wheels so I have to decide centerlock or 6 bolts

Using CL rotos on CL hubs over 2 yrs on 2 bikes and no play at all, still firm as 6 bolts version.

      @amermeleitor 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@LoveMTB thanks for your reply! In the video you show only 6 bolts rotors so I thought you use 6 bolt system. I will go with centerlock because I take off the rotors 1)when wash the bike 2)when lubricate the transmision 3)when give maintenance to the hubs. So centerlock will be the way. I have stripped t25 bolts and is a PITA, so I keep buying new bolts. Centerlock seems a lot easier system. I was afraid because comments in internet about centerlock problems, but they are a very little minority, most people are happy with centerlock and have not problems with the centerlock interface. Thank you!

I would choose center lock wheels with adapters to 6-bolt. (There are no adapters for the other direction)
That way you get the best of both worlds
The finned discs from Shimano look great but only come with centerlock. Centerlock is also a lot faster to take the disc off for cleaning.
6-bolt can be taken apart with a Multitool though. But when do you ever need to take off you disc trailside?

As always the difference between XT and XTR is pretty much only weight.

XTR may have some slightly better heat dissipation but for almost every non-professional rider I doubt anyone would notice that.

The XTR 91xx crankset has different design than XT 81xx and SLX 71xx. Xt and SLX has old style and XTR has pre-load adjuster on the non-drive side. I dont believe Shimano cranksets chainline and q-factor options, differ true spindle lenght. IT is chainring offset and crank arm design.
