    Hey I just got a 78’ motobecane and I got it to start up, and when the bike is on the stands and I twist the throttle the back tire spins and it’s giving it power, but when I take it off the stand and sit on it and try to ride it, it won’t ride, but it will try to? Do you know what I might be able to start of by looking at first?

      Well, you didn’t say if the engine runs good off the stand, but I will assume yes. There is a twist knob on the plate near where the left pedal attaches.
      This must not be in the pedal only position or the power won’t engage. If this doesn’t solve it, maybe your clutch is shot, which is the left side where the belt attaches, and also check the belt- that may be a cheaper fix. Also..If the bike ever dies when you brake, the bike will not run if the tail light bulb is burned out. Crazy but true...

    Any chance you have a set of Model 7 side covers for sale?

      No, keep an eye on eBay- also occasionally call moped parts suppliers like treats, moped junkyard, doscycles, myrons mopeds, that’s how I found
      Mine- really makes the bike look nice.. also look overseas in France, parts can be available there too, especially carb parts.

      Enjoy your bike!
      Myrons mopeds are the best for parts, except tires which I found at treats, also in California.
      Bike runs better without the airbox. I also bought the 2.0 horsepower sprocket so it is faster, even so, would only go about 28 mph. My bike was a 1.5 hp model. If you have the 2.0 bigger carb- if you can find it- would run better. The standard carb float used on a 1980 moby can be adjusted to work if your float is shot, as the original is not available. The bike is nice because it is so lightweight, can go almost anywhere with you...

      @@diogeneslamp8241 Thanks very much for your info and videos. I am going to try to set points on the Motobecane 7. What I read, I think I am supposed to have the piston at 1.5mm below top dead center. But where does that 1.5mm measurement start? Inside the cylinder, say from the bottom, below the end of the of spark plug hole, or from the top of the spark plug opening?

    • @diogeneslamp8241
      @diogeneslamp8241  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marc, you need to purchase the measuring tool. It screws into the spark plug hole and has a gauge on it. This will allow you to set the timing properly. I also used a large hose clamp around the points cover to help tighten the reverse thread bolt, or you can use an air gun but careful with the aluminum threads.

      @@diogeneslamp8241 Thanks again DL. I sent an email to Shaun at Myron's, but any other sources for the timing tool?
