Bobrovsky better win the Conn Smythe if Florida wins. He’s been absolutely incredible and definitely the difference maker between being up 3-0. Oilers have out chanced Florida but it’s a reminder that goaltending matters at this point.
IMO, saying Holloway or Skinner are cracks and that it explains the situation is a joke. Nurse at 9.25, very thin D (5-86), average goaltending are actually the whole structure of EDM roster. Lucky to be in the Final, carried by 97-PP-PK-14 and calls against Dallas, and Oettinger being hurt. Even the Canes could not overcome subpar goalie in spite of depth. We still have a flawed roster hidden by our best players.
According to Maurice, Barkov sets the tone for the entire team, he is the role model for their defensive style of play. So if we were to switch McDavid and Barkov, I don’t think Florida would be anywhere near where they are. McDavid needs to do his thing, he is expected to score, by fans and the media, and I don’t think he can focused on or play as good defence as Barkov, so the current Panthers’ team identity would never have developed.
Just wanted to add that not only did the Wings sweep Washington in 98’. They also swept the Flyers in the SCF the year before. That’s right, back to back cups with both being sweeps. What a team!
I feel like Barkov was assigned McDavid in game 1-2, then Edmonton has the last change and controls match ups. Edmonton put McDavid away from Barkov, and Barkov was freed up to drive offense since he didn't have to defend as hard.

If Leon and Kane are hurting why not move Nurse to forward. He is liability on D. Use his size up front to create some room for Conner. Boston used to do that with Chara at least on the power play. He can make life difficult for the goalie and defence.
Panthers use the NewAge Hockey System..a very evolved version of the 2012 La Kings System. A variation of the same System that every Cup except Washingtons has been won with. The Oilers have tried to use this same System but there is something in the water in Edmonton .Time to evolve or go extinct. Any dilligent GM or Coach or Pundit or Fan should be aware of this to some degrees.
