A real cultural revolutionary. The butterfly’s wings spread a message of love across the world. A time when musicians, poets and artists had profound messages to tell. Did he have anything to say? Sure did. A light in the darkness and forever in my heart. RIP Izzy Young.
This documentary was made in 1989 about being nostalgic for a time 30 years prior, but now the same time span has elapsed, and this video evokes great nostalgia for the New York of 30 years ago, with so many people and places come and gone.
thank you so much for posting this .. I am friends with Art Lugoff's grandson and he had never seen that footage!! And I LOVED Pete Seeger at the end and Allen Ginsburg singing!
Add my name to the list of Musicians in the Square...only got their once.... it Was one of the best days of my life... September 2010...right under the arch!
I was in Greenwich Village in June of 2003 looking for a coffeehouse that maybe was since the day. I wasn't having any luck and a guy who worked with some shop was standing in front on the sidewalk. I asked him where the coffeehouses were. He just said, "The Beat Generation is gone man!" I'm wondering why it disappeared. Does anyone know what happened? Thanks for this great video!
