I kinda like that it doesn't have a time bonus, since it means players can go at their own pace generally (aside from pizza time/lap 2 ofc) and still get an A or S-rank.
@@MermaidSeal Oh absolutely, I actually really like it when score based games DON'T have time bonuses like that, because when they do it makes the casual player have a stroke trying to figure out the best route of stuff to get vs avoid for the sake of speed. For example, Super Mario 64 Land, an amazing sm64 hack, kinda suffers from this because it isn't intuitive as to what is worth going out of your way for and what isn't. I found myself having less fun grinding for A and S ranks in that game because I never knew if a failed rank was a result of failed execution or if I was just routing badly.
@@riffsix Yeah, that's part of the reason I haven't played that hack in particular; I love sm64 and its hacks but I don't like speedrunning that game, and a hack that puts completion behind some fairly strict speedruns is not exactly my cup of tea. That, and I'm just not a fan of Kaze's hacks in general. Still good for those who do like that sort of thing at least.
@@MermaidSeal I feel like sm64 land was specifically made to cater to people like Simpleflips, because even he, as a former high level speedrunner for that game, STRUGGLED to get some high ranks in SM64 land. If someone as genuinely skilled as him is having difficulty pulling these things off, then Kaze should probably have looked at rebalancing things a bit for the casual player. Especially considering, y'know. It's a Mario hack. Games like that have a very limited player base inherently, and most of that player base is going to be roughly mid level skill at the game, definitely not capable of half of what the game expects from you if you're just trying to go for all stars, let alone 100% completion. Sad :( Time to go back and play last impact though because I have enough nostalgia for it that its flaws are less glaring to me
The speedrun movement in this game looks so smooth.
Feels pretty great as well, so long as you don't forget how to play the game for a moment and flail around or bonk into walls 3 times in a row lol
I love seeing insane movement like that only for the game to give you an "ok" because it doesn't have a time bonus
That's kinda hilarious

You say semi-competent but this time is 3rd place on the speedrun leaderboards
Y'know, just sorta okay at the vidja game!
