Honestly, I was feeling the hype of "oh this dude better get his ass kicked by the protagonist" energy. I should've seen that one coming, but the whole ending just made me go "whaaaaa...." For a moment.

The Gundam franchise is pretty well known for making good shows, the usual problem is the length in between original projects(non-Build for those not interested in that side of the franchise) that aren't UC-based.
Sunrise in general though is pretty well known for their animation quality though, if you look up their studio you'd probably be able to find another show that you'd like, Gundam or not.

Okay, so this is probably one of the best debuts of a main protagonist's Gundam in the entire franchise. What an excellent first episode to a brand new series!

Fun fact: according to the official novel (which is written from the POV of Gundam Aerial; he has his own mind but cannot express his thoughts externally) about the 10-year gap between Prologue and this episode, Suletta's childhood was far from happy; her mother, seeking vengence, spent most of her time working, leaving Suletta very lonely and she only had Aerial as her friend. She treated his combat simulation as a kind of video game, and her score kept improving until she was second to only her mother on Mercury.
In addition, as Suletta had no friends on Mercury, whose environment is harsh, and was not really welcomed by some of the Mercury people, she had trouble with her socialising skills, which is why she often stutters when talking to people now. In the end when Suletta became a teenager, her mother actually planned to let Suletta go to school, win the duel, and became the fiancé of Miorine Rembran (whose father, Delling, is none other than the one who declared Gundam illegal and led the masaccre in the Prologue). Aerial himself cares about Suletta; he does not mind becoming a tool for vengence, but hopes Suletta does not have to go through that as he thinks she is a good girl.

I’m here again after finishing the anime and reading the Light Novel Prologue about Suletta’s childhood with Aerial. This first episode masterpiece hits so much harder now. Suletta’s first day at school, her admiration and dreamy looks at school, her awkwardness around people.
And finally her victory against Guel is not just because she used an overpowered Gundam. Suletta being a very lonely child growing up, has been doing those battle simulations as games as a way to pass time and became the best pilot in her planet since she was little more than a toddler. Guel had no chance even if their mobile suits are equal. And Guel himself seems to realize this, that’s why he’s not bitter with his lost. Guel is not obsessed with Aerial like many of them but rather at Suletta herself, no matter what her mobile suit is.

I binge-watched last night after I saw a Japanese tag trending on twitter, i got curious what it was so I clicked it and saw the yuris was celebrating of this anime. as a fan of yuri myself i got so excited and binge watch all the episodes it was really good i can't wait for episode 12. and since I can't get enough I'm rewatching. Yep, it's what happens when the studio gets the story and animation done right. It'll hold up just as well as other anime like Full Metal Alchemist, although I am biased towards it because it was one of the first anime dvd boxsets I ever bought back then
after a masterpiece prologue, they decided to give us a great 1st ep. at this rate, it might dethrone my fav gundam series which is 00.

Y'all Miorine threw up in her suit! I noticed at the end she had spit on her helmet so I went back and they actually animated her throwing up at around 18:23. You have to slow it down to see it but the detail in this show still surprises me to this day!
I've just watched this episode but man, I've to say that this is such a refreshing Gundam series! Sadly, not everyone is happy that it has a female lead and a little shoujo ai, like, whyy??? what's wrong with that? Enjoyable plot won't be soiled just by this. If anything, female lead gives some interesting different vibes, especially Suletta. As someone who enjoys the aspect of world building & characters' depth of an anime more than the ideality of its genre, I personally love this one very much. I like how it gives me the same excitement as when I first watched Gundam AGE and Gundam IBO long time ago lolol

It's a special ability all protags have, it's called Plot armor, any shots or attacks done unto the MC is subverted and will always miss it's target. It also gives the user a passive effect that keeps them from dying until the series ends.

actually everything in eps1 just a homage to Revolution Girl Utena eps1 (+ gundam), since the writer is the one who write adaptation Utena novel hence also the yuri aspect of the story.
