I miss Nancy very much. Even though I never meet her, I felt like I knew her.
I am sure there are lots of people who miss her.💐💐💐🌟🌟🌟
I had the highest honor to attend a sewing show in the 1990s where I met Nancy and had my photo taken with her. It sits in a place of honor in my sewing room. I learned so much from Nancy over the years with her programs. But the most important thing I learned from her was not sewing related. Perseverance and to be your genuine self!
I am so very glad that Nancy has left a legacy of videos for sewers, new and not so new to learn from! All the tips and tricks of a long and creative Career are ours to keep!
R.I.P. with a smile sweet Nancy! I will be following these lessons for years. Thank you.

The book that accompanies the Sewing With Nancy program gives step by step instructions for tracing the sleeves and collars. For the sleeve, it is traced with the sleeve folded in half and the tracing paper folded in half. When you line up the fold, the eased part of the cap is pulled away from the fold, but you draw the pattern piece to the fold. So, the fullness is in the pattern piece. Nancy does a great job in walking you through the process in her book, Copy Cat Patterns; item BK2405.

This looks like a great method, I'll have to try it. When you get to small pieces and pieces that have been eased into place, like collars and sleeve tops, for instance, how do you get an accurate pattern without taking the garment apart, though? Do you have to redraft those pieces?
With a little bit of practice, trying a few times, this seems like a no fail for the final result

The only thing that I think determines a home made vs professionally made garment is that the stitch is neither too tight nor too loose, and that the inside does not look unfinished

What if the depth of the dart has been trimmed, meaning the excess fabric from the dart has been graded down to reduce bulk. How do we determine the dart depth?

you forgot to show how to add fabric allowance for a dart , not just placement
I watched this video because I wanted To know how to do it! thats great! I understood we have To move the fabric to make the dart but then, when you trace the whole pattern I dont understand because its seems like when you fold you pattern there Will be too much of allowance in the middle (because we moved it Just before for the dart allowance). I dont know if I make myself clear! i m french, my english May be not correct and i m not a professional! thanks if somebody can help me! ;) and thank you for the video.
Since this was a Copying Tip, not the entire instructions for copying a garment, it was missing a lot of details, including how to finish copying and adjusting for a dart. In the case of the waist dart on the garment shown, the full extra width required to allow for the dart was at the waist peplum seam. What has to be done to complete the copy for the side seam is to measure up the length of the waist dart along the side seam. The new pattern side seam must be tapered from the full pattern width at the waist (including the dart) to the finished bodice width above the dart length, which is usually narrower than the new pattern waist width. Measuring the length of the waist dart along the side seam gives you an approximate point at which the dart allowance is completely removed from the width of the pattern. The side seam can be adjusted or "trued" to avoid an awkward transition from the underarm to the waist or to allow ease. The process is similar, but slightly different for darts in other locations.
I hope this translates well into French for you and helps you understand the procedure better.
Wow. Clear as mud. I think I would just undo the item and trace the individual pieces. Much less confusing.
But then you need to reassemble the piece, which can be daunting if it's one of your favorites in your closet!

It is a ready made (store bought) garment. It has a tag on the neck seam.
