IIRC, Soyeon said like "Oh she could be anyone, it's about self love, lol!" when this came out, because South Korea is heckin very Christian. Buuuuuuut........yeah the English version of the song is *very clear* and a lot more gay, lol!

Love them so much all their MV are so captivating and their music is also very unique from their debut ❤
BLACKPINK and G-IDLE are the only 2 girl groups that have not declined over the years, BLACKPINK debuted in 2016 and in 2024 they are stronger than ever, and G-IDLE debuted in 2018 and in 2024 they are also stronger stronger than ever, believe me this is something out of the ordinary in kpop because most groups of both men and women decline or disappear after 3 years due to the high competition in kpop, since every year they are born and die dozens of groups, the good thing about BLACKPINK and G-IDLE is that their music is empowering, that's why I like it.
That why bp went in different way instead of staying in group anymore
I assume you're only counting pre-2020 groups, since it's too early to properly judge the newer ones in this regard (Aespa are more popular nowadays that they were back in their rookie days for example). And Blackpink are on a quiet hiatus right now, I wouldn't say they're quite at their peak of peaks at the moment (I mean the group, not the members themselves). Gidle definitely the only group of this longevity to literally get bigger and bigger every year though.
This was one of their more popular songs. Like, so many people joined the fandom because the MV, the lyrics, the looks were just so sublime. The performance stages were absolutely mystical too. Glad you reacted to this one!
FYI, it is usually the Popstars song that causes (G)I-DLE's Killing Voice video to get blocked. If you try editing all or some of that song out, you may get the video to upload. Several of the reactions to it have edits on that song.
There is an English Language Version of the song that is not attached to a Music Video (somebody on YT made a Lyric Video so you can read along as well as listen). Those lyrics are EVEN MORE SPICY than these lyrics in Korean! The English Language Version would definitely have been BLOCKED or BANNED from Korean Radio and Television. There is no cursing in that version but it is much more clear of intent in its explicitivity.

As far as I know Soyeon has said that the song is about love then it is up to people themselves to interpret. IMO the meaning is very clear especially is listening to the English version of this song.

the (g) I-dle vs I-dle conversation is actually quite simple (if you know :P)
I'm probably butchering the translation here i can read the characters, but don't speak the langue, but basically the hangul to english letting of the group translates to Yeoja Aideul, or girl/child Idol.
So in Korea, they have slashed the vocalisation of "(g)" as they aren't children anymore, but they keep it internationally as, well its the group's name internationally :P
You can upload the Killing Voice from them but you have to cut out the song POP/STARS. In many USA countrys they block it because just two of the (G)-Idle Members are offical part of KDA

They are by this point so entrenched that they can basically never be cancelled, but yeah. While the western k-poop fans have celebrated Idle for years, the more "conservative" parts of the internetz, lets call it that, have tried to get them shut down for years, and ESPECIALLY at that point in their career.
I was obsessed with this song when it came out, and still am tbh. It is so good, and iconic and the lesbian anthem we all deserve. Also I am fully in love with soyeon and she looks so good in this 🥵. Of course she always does but this look lives rent free in my mind.

G-I'DLE's MIYEON was the fifth member of BLACKPINK and was removed from the group before debuting because she allegedly became emotionally involved with a YG ENTERTAIMENT worker, something strictly prohibited for any K-pop idol in their agencies. and SOOJIN was removed from G-I-DLE in 2021 because a former school classmate accused her of bullying her, then the CUBE ENTERTAIMENT agency removed SOOJIN from the group, the sad thing is that it was later discovered that the allegations were false and SOOJIN was innocent, Unfortunately, he couldn't return to the group and is now a soloist, something that G-IDLE fans still can't get over.
miyeon was not removed due to a dating rumor. she left because the debut kept getting delayed. please stop spreading misinformation
