You can temporarily lower the pitch by carefully applying some water to the head. It shouldn't be "wet," just moist is fine. Give it a short time to evaporate somewhat and it will be lower. To lower it permanently, unless you are able to take apart the straps, loosen them, and put it back together (a difficult task), it would not be advisable.
