I was thinking about days past. Because of this video I was a 52D1P ( our generation specialist it's under a new MOS heading now) something kept bugging me about the dancing gauges. So I reached out some other vets and they reminded me. Back in '94 we kept getting gigged because our gauges was dancing our little. So we tried to figure out why brand new generators were doing that. Turns out it's a renaissance vibration that builds up in the oil pan. we had a real old one that we actually drained the hole out and crank it up for a few minutes and all that dancing needle went away. so I wouldn't worry too much about them dancing around just a variance or two.

Thanks for the info! That is extremely interesting. Never thought about something like that. In my case the voltmeter just occasionally drops off... by 20-30 volts.... pull the James Bond gauge tap it and it will pop back into its proper place. Thanks again for the information and your service.

@@mmrbeef that's a gauge when they fall off like that otherwise it's normal like he said to dance

U can totally use that 3rd leg for 120 volt stuff. Doesn't hurt anything. He'll u can use it for a 2nd panel at 208 also just as long as you pay attention to the leg that your sharing doesn't get overloaded

It was interesting to see a 230 volt single phase motor run on 208 volt three phase supply.

It will run but will draw more amps and get hotter than if it was running on 230V. In this case for a test of a second hand rebuilt air compressor I wasn’t too worried. Would I hook it up to the house without going through every appliance and checking to see if 208 worked? No.... but so many appliances are 208-240 rated anymore that it’s easy to do.

Resistive loads such as electric ranges and 240 heaters can run fine on 208, apartment buildings do it all the time. Just takes a little longer to make eggs in the morning. I would definitely be weary of running anything inductive though, an auto transformer can be useful for that

@@infl inductive loads are fine at 208 look at the motor tags. Most are rated for 208-230.

@@electromechanicalstuff2602 Well yeah, loads rated for 208 can run fine on 208 no matter what. I meant 240 only loads specifically

@@infl you right it will pull more amps and run hotter but most motors are rated 208-230. Even if there not rated if it's newer the 40yrs old id bet99.9% of the time it will be fine

Is that another project x behind the generator?
