I've got FreedomPop hooked up to my HTC M8. When the Note 7 airline fiasco went down ⬇ took my M8 to Houston as a replacement. It never let me down. I have the hotspot option on my M8 but I don't use it that much. But it's there just in case. Laters.
Be sure to login to it's web interface and update carrier and such so you can get the latest tower data - I've done 30/45Mpbs around California/Nevada on Spark LTE - perfect for SSH/Netflix for the fam :-)
I've had Freedompop for awhile now. but never on a hotspot device. if i recall they started off on Clear's network and piggy backed on sprint. Which clear was bought by Sprint. But as of today for awhile now they branched to support other towers such as GSM Sim cards and not just CDMA. The free data offer i think little less for GSM users, but they have a wider coverage net then with sprints coverage map. I use freedompop on my old Virgin mobile phone (which is sprint so i had it ported, which in fact they added it to the database for free for me when its normally like around $20-30 to port used phones). I just keep it on the free plan, and also have at least 10 friends on my account which you get 50MB free for every friend up to a max of 500MB. So I get 1GB Free every month. I keep it as a backup with my Google Voice phone with Hangout dialer set up on it. If you cant find at least 10 friends, there forums with a database of emails you can send friends request too that people openly share their emails. So you can get that extra free data. but i would stay from the survey offers on freedompop's website. I've seen antivirus triggers go off from download requirements (such as unofficial VLC Installers, etc), and too much info asked if you ask me, too risky. Also a good rule of thumb, go into billing settings and disable auto top off. unless you want un wanted charges if you go over your free and prepaid allotments. Its on by default.
I'm assuming the 10GB's free is a 1 time offer and its just 2GB's thereafter. Maybe I'm wrong but I stopped watching when he said 10GB free. Nothing having to do with wireless is "Free" long term in the US.
ISP's in US is supremely bullshit with dumb speed and a huge price tag attached to it... then they have balls to tell the customers that speed deficiency is due to the overwhelming congestion of internet traffic in the areas of the Cities or the county that it facilitates.... which is nothing more than horse shits that they feed us with.
I totally agree with you that Sprint is not great for traveling internationally. I was in Barbados back in 2017 and couldn't get any service. My phone kept searching and never got connected. 😏 Drained the heck out of my battery tho! 😣
Whats with America and tethering coming as an extra? I just pay £32 a month for my 128gb Pixel with 20gb of 4g data to use however I want, tethered to anything or through my mobile itself.....
Even years ago on my first contract (1gb a month) I could tether if I really wanted to, I don't get how the land of the free doesn't allow you consumers to be free to use what you pay for :(
"the cancer part" -- was that a typo? If you mean cancelling, I found out you can just downgrade to the free plan, remove the Premiere options, and there's no extra charges as far as I can see.
Jordan Keyes yeah.. I said cancer because of the warning that is included with the device. I just purchased it on eBay and if its dangerous then I am thinking of returning it.
I haven't found anything specific about the device. If I had to guess, it's probably due to something in the battery. Unfortunately the label isn't specific about what cancer-causing chemical might be involved, and apparently that isn't required: www.cancer.org/cancer/cancer-causes/general-info/cancer-warning-labels-based-on-californias-proposition-65.html
Jordan Keyes Thank you for the valuable information. Seems like any device has some type of cancer causing chemical but the state of California is extremely strict about items with such chemicals that manufacturers must include a warning label on their products if any of the chemicals on the prop 65 are present. I guess I will treat this device like any other and just wash my hands after using it.
The State of California is run by fruits and nuts. There legislature represents the nuttiest of the nuts. Don't worry about the "cancer claim" unless you are using the device as a pacifier.
I have the T-Mobile one plan and I have unlimited 4g lte tethering with the cheapest plan here is what you do get an unlocked phone and get PdaNet. just can't use the hot spot because it is throttled
I'm thinking of getting this, using the free 12Gb then moving down to the free plan. Would any unused data get rolled over? Is there actually a fee for switching to the Free plan?
I just don't understand I stream everything I have unlimited everything 12 gigs of data will only allow you to do about 12 movies then you're done what good is it I use at least a hundred to 200 gigs every month
let me tell you a secret 3g might be faster i have tmobile but my lte speeds are terrible, sometimes 1 mb a second down, so i told my hotspot to use 3g and my speeds are 7 mb a second down. consistently, which is good enough for hd video
freedom pop is basically prepaid wireless. they won't tell you that until it's already to late. BUYER BE AWARE it's only free if you give them $15 JUST in case you go over. that's not free to me if you pay for it in advance.
The Sim in his device is just a LTE UICC Card. Not a GSM SIM Card, and their pretty locked to the devices there assigned too and vice versa. So there not so easy to swap around. *little more detail* In the US There 4 Different Carriers. 2 GSM, 2 CDMA all on there own frequencies of course. The GSM Providers I believe are the most common cell tech in the world, which is what you are used too. Freedompop uses Sprint which is CDMA. With CDMA, Sim cards if any at all are UICC Cards which are for the LTE only (some have the LTE Chip built in so there no removable card but some are removable). They dont store your full service like to be swapped to any unlocked GSM Device. CDMA Providers are not like what you have. Even if your CDMA device has what looks like a standard sim card. Its not really GSM. Swapping between devices just wont work. The heart of your account info is stored on a chip on the device its self. So swapping wont work because the chip has to be assigned to a device to work on it and that device be active. Hope that helps.
Troy Foxxin cheers Though that really blows, when you have to buy more mobiles/hotspots to get data in areas where data is available to some not others. That gets really expensive, really fast. I'm thinking in terms of niche terms like playing Ingress in remote places.
Well for the travelers in the US that go into allot remote places Verizon (Top US CDMA) or AT&T (Top US GSM) hold the crowns for coverage here. But even they dont cover everything that that another might or even a smaller provider maybe covering that there not. It would be nice to have a standard as far as the tech goes, I would like to see the US just all GSM. But yeah here when you move it its a good idea to look at the coverage area before you do. I didnt do that when i was with T-Mobile (Lowest US GSM, but have been trying to grow there network over the years but sure that dont matter to you. lol).
was going to get one but sprint sucks in my area I cancel them when I had there phone service never had service any where sprint os horable tmobile is allot better
"My primary phone line doesn't have tethering" and you're an android user!? Who did videos for xda!?!?! You of all people should know THAT is an easy fix good sir.
Free plan comes with 500MB (CDMA Devices), and extra 500MBs max if you have at least 10 friends on freedompop (more then 10 wont be counted even if it says you earned 50MB) for 1GB Free a month. Thats what i have is 1GB Free every month on my freedompop phone. Thats is pretty much it without paying or risk doing the survey offers they show, which i would say no to unless you want a virus, but that also has its limits. I think the max free amount data you can earn is about 1Gb a month with surveys and friends On top of what you get for free or from a paid plan without paying for the roll over.
There are forums out there where people gladly offer up there email address that are linked to there freedompop account. I havent had to look at one in ages because i already had it done ages ago. But one forum has a list you could just select all and copy, and i pasted them into the invite system on freedompop and submit and just wait for anyone still active to accept, I still get some accepting today it was like a list of like 200 users. but like i said you only get 10 counted towards your account for a extra 500MB ontop of what you already have.
All you going to is stream 3 or four movies with 12 gigs and then you're out of data!!!! Then!!! What!!! You're going to do after that!!! LOL.. 12 gigs for $20 that... that sounds like a rip off to me..LMAO😂
you should downgrade to BASIC plan and make sure you stay within th elimit each month..I do all regular my calls and texts using regular home/work wifi and google hangouts.. i use this as an extra phone for infrequent or emergency use only. Cost per month = $0
FreedomPop is awesome. I have it on my iPhone 4 for years and I've never had to pay a cent for voice and data.
What is the plan you are using, is it only for your cell phone? Can you access internet on your computer via the plan? Thanks.
harrvey how... 🤔
I've got FreedomPop hooked up to my HTC M8. When the Note 7 airline fiasco went down ⬇ took my M8 to Houston as a replacement. It never let me down. I have the hotspot option on my M8 but I don't use it that much. But it's there just in case. Laters.
Like the new set up, the lighting looks much better, heading in a great direction!!! Keep up the good work!!!
I`ve been waiting for a video like this.
Be sure to login to it's web interface and update carrier and such so you can get the latest tower data - I've done 30/45Mpbs around California/Nevada on Spark LTE - perfect for SSH/Netflix for the fam :-)

This sounds good, I need to know if the device will work in a mobile home ( metal box). Thanks, B.R.
FreedomPop Used to use the Clear Wire carriers, just thought I would let you know. :)
I'm assuming the 10GB's free is a 1 time offer and its just 2GB's thereafter. Maybe I'm wrong but I stopped watching when he said 10GB free. Nothing having to do with wireless is "Free" long term in the US.
What is the "effective range" from the device? Can you use it throughout your home?
Does it work internationally? Do you need to set up a Sprint contract?
here in denmark i Pay 18$ and for that on My Phone i have everthing free, or mobil data share is 50 gb, My speed is 26 Mbit down and 8 Mbit up
The same in Sweden :)
Does the 500mg per month carry over to the next month
Bradley Abel Hello unfortunately it doesn't only if ur subscribe to Rollover data im not sure HOW much but i think its like $3 $5 dollars a month ;(.
is this available....worldwide....
this is a att carrier now i have my verizon jetpack with my tmobile sim card so glad i love it
But what if you are out in the boonies where there is no service or do they have towers everywhere now?
You can add "friends" emails to get additional 500mb months.
so does the 10 gb that u get the first month carry over each month or is it only the first month
too bad Sprint coverage isnt great. I have them and its spotty
Rohan Charlesworth because our mobile carriers love to gouge their customers based solely on profits.
Even years ago on my first contract (1gb a month) I could tether if I really wanted to, I don't get how the land of the free doesn't allow you consumers to be free to use what you pay for :(
Rohan Charlesworth Its the land of the free and with wonderful opportunities if you are rich.
Another reviewer said if you go over the free amount you are chsrge $15 per gig and $79 for a premium hookup. Stay away ...
I don't know what that meant but T-Mobile is way faster now faster than Verizon and it's way more coverage than Sprint so that was a weird comment
do they still have that offer?
I am kind of worried about the cancer part..is there any place online that goes more into detail regarding that?
"the cancer part" -- was that a typo?
If you mean cancelling, I found out you can just downgrade to the free plan, remove the Premiere options, and there's no extra charges as far as I can see.

Michael Shore it will if you downgrade to the rollover plan for $3.99 a month.
If 12 is free, why would he move down? Makes no sense
I just don't understand I stream everything I have unlimited everything 12 gigs of data will only allow you to do about 12 movies then you're done what good is it I use at least a hundred to 200 gigs every month
Get a job, you hippie.
Then you need unlimited data
you earned a sub man. if i switch to the free plan do i have to pay at all? can i use this hotspot on my xbox one?
Will this device work in India?
I need that kind of deal that uses AT&T or Verizon since my Sprint phone's don't pick up crap where I've bought my lake house.
i dont get it u need sprint or u dont??
let me tell you a secret
3g might be faster
i have tmobile but my lte speeds are terrible, sometimes 1 mb a second down, so i told my hotspot to use 3g and my speeds are 7 mb a second down. consistently, which is good enough for hd video

how can i get what you have. device and plan ?
You think this would work in the Smokey mountains near Big Ridge state park?
Kyle Burton I'd you have phone data, you should get hotspot data
Connor McDermott I've got data but for some reason my hotspot never works or I can get it to work on my galaxy s8 lol
I am confused, why not use any SIM in any hotspot?
I don't understand the telephony system in the US, In NZ we can plonk in any SIM into any hotspot.

Update?
was going to get one but sprint sucks in my area I cancel them when I had there phone service never had service any where sprint os horable tmobile is allot better

Yeah I was gonna get one until I found out it was Sprint! Their service was terrible when I was in Barbados.
Can it work in Africa??
Can i use it in Germany
"My primary phone line doesn't have tethering" and you're an android user!? Who did videos for xda!?!?! You of all people should know THAT is an easy fix good sir.
Don't eat it
Can any 1 tell me how to get internet for 2 or 3 mo
Is there anyone who can answer my question?
Can we all connect on freedompop to get more shared data?
Free plan comes with 500MB (CDMA Devices), and extra 500MBs max if you have at least 10 friends on freedompop (more then 10 wont be counted even if it says you earned 50MB) for 1GB Free a month. Thats what i have is 1GB Free every month on my freedompop phone.

You could have gotten a cheap tablet from sprint and get the $20 unlimited data plan and use fox do on it
This is place is a rip off, they have a shit load of hidden fees, covered by unclear literature.
you should downgrade to BASIC plan and make sure you stay within th elimit each month..I do all regular my calls and texts using regular home/work wifi and google hangouts.. i use this as an extra phone for infrequent or emergency use only. Cost per month = $0
Eat it eat it
the truth is choose
It can cause cancer damnit sprint

Pure RIP OFF

dude why did you just get Verizon they're not too much get Verizon hotspot
Bob Rhodes I'm assuming that English is not your first language...
